Zoo is alway be children's favourite. Ragunan is the only one animals conservatory in Jakarta. Now the government has been focus on the place and the animal, so the animals can get the proper place to live.
Ragunan is very huge place. Lots of animals grown here.
Nowadays, on Sunday morning, this place can be used for people to do sports, like running, walking or cycling around the zoo. It opens at 7.30 with the fee ticket only IDR 5,000 per person.

The place didn't meet any expectations. Speaking honestly, the only reason to visit this place for me was to see orangutan. Both places announcing that there are orangutan were empty. Should I specially go to the distant areas of Kalimantan Island for this? As for other drawbacks, the area is ridiculously huge compared to the amount of animals you can see (spoiler: you can't see most of the animals shown on the zoo map. the few exclusions are a coupe of elephants and many dozens of pelicans. The only animals which can be met there you can meet anywhere else - street cats and doves. they are always ready to star for your camera, lol. Does it worth to go there from the centre of Jakarta for this??? No way!!! I usually avoid to write negative responses, but I really was pissed off to spoil my entire day for this nightmare.

I was very happy for my first time to see Lion, Ostriches, Tiger, Panther, King cobra, Monkeys, Hippo, different species of birds and other animals. It is a never miss place when you are in Jakarta. The price is not high but It would be better to visit in the morning in order to get enough time to explore

Enormous zoo, full of people and some interesting exhibits. My favourites were the elephants and orangutans. I spent a couple of hours here and only saw a small part of it. You can hire electric scooters and bikes to get around. The cost was very cheap - 4000 rupiah- but I had to buy a tourist card (50000 cash only) - which supposedly can be used at various attractions, to get access.

Only good for locals. Tourist will find this zoo VERY dissapointing in all aspects: service, cleanliness, variety of animals, facility maintenance, and almost everything else.
It's only good for local people, because it's the only zoo in town! In my opinion, probably the worst zoo in South East Asia.

This zoo was incredibly sad. The animals were kept in tiny enclosures without food or water, often also without shade. Many of the enclosures were filled with trash and very poorly maintained. Many animals that should live in groups, or at the very least not alone (primates and elephants etc.) were kept completely alone inside concrete boxes.
The signage as to which animals are housed where is quite poor, we couldn't even find many of the animals claimed to be there on the signs. Also the walkways were falling apart, you had to watch your step in many places to make sure you didn't trip. The stairs up to many of the enclosures were of random height and the bricks were falling off of them, you had to be careful not to fall.
Overall this zoo is very poorly maintained and honestly I think for most of the animals it would be better if the zoo just closed and they could be rehomed somewhere more suitable.

A huge zoo with marvelous gardens but they seem to pay more attention to their gardens than their animals, they were very sad, dry and unkept. I wouldn't pay a penny to go. It's a totally disgrace!

Do not go here. As an animal lover I was just horrified by the terrible living conditions of these poor animals. Even people who don't love animals feel the same way. Avoid this entirely.

The Zoo itself is very nice and the ticket price is silly cheap. I took a cycle to go around that was a pure workout. Definitely worth going there just be prepared of how tired you will get.

I visited the Rangunan Zoo at 27.06.2014 in the morning. The Zoo ist at the weekend very crowded and I decided to wake up early to be one of the first visitors. Compared with a normale european Zoo, this one is enormous huge.
The entrance is very cheap, only 4,500 Rp for one adult. The employee at the entrance was friendly and explained, that I must pay additional 6,000 Rp, if I want to visit the Schmutzer Park, which is a seperated area inside. You pay the additional fee direct at the entrance to this area if you want to visit it.
The first positiv thing I have preceived are the big compunds for the animal. Compared with other Zoos I have visited the animals here have much more space for walking around. A negative thing is, that the management of the park have permitted it, to visit the park with an motircycle. Airpollution have no place in an Zoo.
Another disadvantage of this park are the food courts. I decided not to buy food inside the park, because I wasn t sure how clean the food and the kitchens are. Of course you can buy only indonesian food.
I liked the green ladscape in the Zoo and the generous parks you can find inside. When you want to visit the whole Zoo, you should not be lazy to walk. It is also possible to drive with an visitor train around the Zoo. But when you go around by yourself, you gt much better impressions.
Very beautiful are the biodeversity of the flora. If you are interested in this matter, you can find a lot of differnt plants.
I disliked the garbage in the park. There are a lot of containers for collecting the garbage, but many people throw there garbage on the street. This a problem of the people themself, but there is to less stuff in the park for cleaning it. Another dislike are the greenfields. Many of them are damaged and patterned with brown spots and garbage.
The biodeversity of the animals is sufficient. I enjoyed it to watch the animials in mostly big compounds and shot a lot of good pichtures. Espeacially the elefant compounds are very huge. If you want to shot some nice pics, don t forget your tele lens! It could be helpfull!
Unfortunatelly, you can`t buy a map of the zoo and so I had sometimes a problem to knew who I am in the park. However, when you walk around the clock, you will see all animals and plants.
My personal highlight was the Schmutzer Primat Compound. You can watch gorillas in a really huge compound. They rebuild a rainforrest. You can watch them from different places, like the bridge above the compound or you can sit beside the compound. It is necassary, that you are patient and not loud. During the waiting time you can enjoy the landscape. Food and drink is not permitted in this area (animal protection).
To summarize my impressions, I really enjoyed my visit. The negative aspects are the garbage, the greenfields for picknicking and the food courts.
Positive aspects are the biodeversity of the flora and fauna, the huge compounds and the size of the park itself.
If you have the choice, visit Rangunan only during working days.
Attached you can find some pictures I have shot during my visit.

Hi. I would like to know how much does a ticket cost? thanks in advance.
Written May 23, 2017
Entrance is IDR4,000, and optional insurance is IDR8,000, making it about US$1 for day-pass. The special monkey exhibit is an additional IDR9,000. There are several options for tours and packages, which I have never tried and cannot recommend from personal experience (see triphobo). I would advise you to bring your own food and water, since prices inside the zoo are much higher, especially for non-local tourists. The zoo is located directly across from the Ragunan bus terminal. Using TransJakarta buses requires a "Flazz" card pass, which can be purchased at any bus shelter - minimum IDR20,000. Bus trips are IDR3,500 each trip.
Hope that helps.
