I visited this place from Jember. It took around 3 hours by car. From the parking area we must walk and climb a hill for around 10 minutes. This crater actually is near the famous Ijen Crater.
The view from the top was very thrilling. There were expanse hills view behind the peak. There were letters of KAWAH WURUNG and BONDOWOSO that we can take picture on the way to the peak. The other spot was a wooden chair with signage and the hill as the background. In the afternoon before dark clouds descended and gave us different sensation on the way back to the parking area.

You can access from Bondowoso city or Banyuwangi City, if you come from Banyuwangi you will Pass Ijen Creaters.
You will see coffee plantation and small village before Kawah Wurung.

Road from Coffee plantation to Kawah Wurung need special attention when you drive.

After Ijen our guide suggested stopping by nearby Kaway Wurung. Well it is nearby but the road is in such terrible shape it takes a long time to get out to it. I would suggest visiting Kawah Wurung if you have the time and energy to explore it for a couple of hours to make the uncomfortable drive worth it. The scenery is beautiful.

One of the main tourist attractions in Bondowoso Regency. The wurung crater is a cylindrical cone located in a vast savanna area. Wurung Crater is thought to be a cylindrical cone of Mount Ijen. Wurung Crater is located in Ijen Mountain range.
Access to the Wurung Crater is still a rocky road. The road conditions inside The Wurung Crater area are black sand road. During the rainy season, the entire road will turn into a muddy road. During dry season, land fires often occur in the area of Kawah Wurung

Never knew this such a greeneries could be found in our own backyard! Being Jakartans whose life dwell amongst concrete trees, this amazing view will never be taken for granted. Alhamdulillah. Can't stop praising Allah for giving Indonesians such a blessed land. We hope they could provide trash bins so the visitors don't litter or please bring your litter home..this place is too beautiful for littering..and the cows were also another attraction as we rarely see them grass-fed freely in Indonesia..we almost thought it's NZ! Hahaha..

Kawah wurung is one of wonderful nature that can be seen in Bondowoso. Hills are surrounded by savanna, similar to the hills that we see in the tv series 'Teletubbies'. Located in Curah Macan Village in the Sempol subdistrict, kawah wurung is a paradise for extreme sports such as Paragliding, Motor Biking, Horse Riding and ATV. The Plantation and unique agriculture surrounding the place add even more interesting sights to visit.

this location called "kawah Wurung" it's mean wurung crater but it's not actual crater the place is more like hills with the savana view.to be reminder it's not in banyuwangi but in the bondowoso but it's not so far from ijen,if you want go to kawah wurung you have drive about 30 minutes from ijen to kawah wurung, after that you will find mud road along in plantation area just follow the road and you will get there an to be reminder use a 4x4 WD car because the road is very very bad and steep, and if you have a time ask a local for direction to "belanda" house it's you easter egg!!!

Kawah Wurung is a real wonderland paradise that actually exist on this earth! Just a few kilometers away from the nearby busy tourist attractions, you will be surprised finding such a tranquil and beautiful paradise at Kawah Wurung. The name Kawah Wurung is Javanese words that means cancelled crater. Geologically it suppose to be a crater, but then there was not enough energy to make the crater alive. In turn it became a very fertile and beautiful landscape at altitude of approx. 1500 meters above sea level. This is a must go location when visiting East Java.

The location can be accessed through the city of Bondowoso or Banyuwangi. There is a nearby accommodation operated by the Kalisat Tea Plantation. Camping is also possible, but no comfort facilities are available. It's very natural.

This place need to be reached by a SUV preferred 4x4.
This crate is cover like savanna but you couldnt drive over it since no 4 wheels can go beyond the hill down.
On the way to this place you also find savannah and hills called by local teletubbie hills.
It tooks 1 hours drive from paltuding or 2 hours from banyuwangi city.
If you drive more follow the road you will find a guest house build by Netherland land lord who owned the coffee plantation.
Not many people knew the place.
It eas very worted for people looking for adventure.
