As a local people i found too many tourist consfused of what are they looking for here. As the story short, this landscape is a monument of a historical event here in bali, this monument made is to remember the "puputan" it means fight till the very end. At this war women, young children and elders all wear white and go to war, winning or loosing is not result, it means we refuse to surrender. If you go to this site, you can visit bali museum, as i can remember there is a lot of interesting thing in this museum as example the rangda and barong costume. There is also a temple beside the museum with its white stone to build it. Sate restaurant just in the north of the temple with original madura taste. And if you like how the local lives, this site also present local people activity in the afternoon. To make your visit worth more, from this site go to the west, and you will find the pasar badung market or kumbasari, largest market in denpasar, there is many photo object here with interesting activity. The local call it gajah mada street, many cities named its economical site as gajah mada street in indonesia, try search who is gajah mada in google. If you are interesting in local people, then you must visit here, but if you like beaches or other you might get dissapointed. Remember you can say NO to pushy guide that make you uncomfortable. Last but not least, the architecture of the bali museum, jagadnatha temple, bali governor house, and buildings in gajah mada are interesting. It will not spend one day to visit here. Cheers.
Buy from local, it help them.

I have been working in Renon since 1 month now, and I keep enjoying my one hour stroll or a nice pic-nic in the Puputan park. The athmosphere is laid back & sporty at the same time.

At the end of December 2018, came to Denpasar for celebrating New Year, unlike other tourists mostly celebrate it in Kuta.i chose Denpasar.that time Denpasar Festival was held here, the field full of stalls in the morning, selling souvenirs, food and drinks,at night there is a night market around, mostly selling food and drinks, and people gathered here more and more when the night coming.before 0.00,people set off firecrackers here, when the time close to 0.00,the firecrackers were set off more and more, and I think a bit dangerous, cuz sometimes it fell into crowd.there was a traditional performance here, you can watched it or just sit on the field,or walk around, many people had a picnic here and watching fireworks.when the clock struck twelve, people here not shouting,or greeting like other place, just more and more fireworks, very special way to welcome 2019,a memorable night!

This is a quite impressive public square, it commemorates the heroic but suicidal stand of the rajas of Badung against the invading Dutch in 1906. A monument depicts a Balinese family in heroic pose, brandishing the weapons that were so ineffective against the Dutch guns. The gardens are very attractive with floral beds, shrubbery, impressive trees, fountains, monuments and walkways throughout. Although there were many people in attendance on the day, including numerous high school students, an air of reverence pervaded the area. Worth negotiating with a good guide for a reasonably detailed history of the place and the genocidal practices of the Dutch during early settlement.

We took the Sarbagita public bus from Kuta to Denpasar (Rp 3500). The bus stops right in front of Puputan Square and from there you can go to the Bali Provincial Museum and see the site of the 1906 Puputan (ritual fight to the end) when the Balinese were fighting the Dutch. Very quiet on a Saturday afternoon.

The centre of the town and a lively spot during Denfest. Other times you can just chill in the ground.

We went to Puputan Square in Denpasar to view the puputan monument, which is a beautiful and emotional sculpture depicting a man, his wife and their son commencing puputan. We weren't prepared for the beautiful gardens in which it sits. Cool and shady, with a nice breeze, the entire area is wonderful. There is plenty of seating and we saw locals playing chess and buying sate, lumpia and coffee to enjoy in the lovely surroundings. There is a fabulous pebbled reflexology path on which you walk very slowly to get the best foot massage. Across the road is the Bali Museum, also well worth a visit. The museum is close to the site of the original palace of Denpasar, which was destroyed by the Dutch after the puputan. Short history from wikipedia: "Upon [the Dutch] reaching the palace, a silent procession emerged, led by the Raja on a palanquin carried by four bearers. The Raja was dressed in traditional white cremation garments, wore magnificent jewelry, and carried a ceremonial kris. The other people in the procession consisted of the Raja's officials, guards, priests, wives, children and retainers, all of whom were similarly attired. They had received the rites of death, were dressed in white, and had had their ritual kris blessed. When the procession was a hundred paces from the Dutch force, they halted and the Raja stepped down from the palanquin and signalled a priest, who plunged his dagger into the Raja's breast. The rest of the procession began killing themselves and others. Women mockingly threw jewelry and gold coins at the troops. A 'stray gunshot' and an 'attack by lance and spear' prompted the Dutch to open fire with rifles and artillery. As more people emerged from the palace, the mounds of corpses rose higher and higher. The whole procession numbered hundreds, and is said to have been over 1,000 people in all. It was mown down by Dutch gunfire. Alternative accounts describe that the Dutch first opened fire on the Balinese mass moving outside of the palace gate, only equipped with traditional krises, spears and shields, and that survivors killed themselves, or had themselves killed by their followers according to the dictates of the puputan. The soldiers stripped the corpses of the valuables and sacked the ruins of the burned palace. The palace of Denpasar was razed to the ground. The same afternoon, similar events occurred in the nearby palace of Pemecutan, where the co-ruler Gusti Gede Ngurah resided. The Dutch let the nobility at Pemecutan kill themselves, and proceeded with the looting. The massacre is remembered locally as the "Badung Puputan" and is glorified as an example of resistance to foreign aggression. A huge bronze monument was erected on the central square of Denpasar, where the royal palace used to stand, glorifying Balinese resistance in the Puputan."

Flashing back to the past history, where a great battle in Bali happened here. It seems quiet of any activities.

Essentially a square to commemorate a mass suicide site in Bali in light of the Dutch invasion.

Close to the Bali Museum it's a open space area that is smaller than Renon Square.
