- Alexandra BSydney, Australia62 contributionsSatisfying natural encounters with an enthusiastic guide in the northwestWe really changed pace in Bali heading northwest and doing a combined birdwatching and safari tour with the famous Idriss, starting early enough to see the sunrise. We saw 40+ birds and animals and really enjoyed mindfully looking for birds first with our naked eye and then through binoculars, as we slowly walked through their relatively open habitat backed by a handsome mountain peak in the distance. Booking was easy via Whatsapp +62 823 4018 5768. We took water and snacks but Idriss supplied some too, and lunch was tasty. Would love to do an on-water tour next time.Visited October 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten October 29, 2023
- MuruganSingapore, Singapore10 contributionsWest Bali National Park- Birding Experience and our expert guide!!!We visited West Bali National Park during the CNY holidays in Feb'24. While we stayed in The Menjangan, we spent most of our time birding outside of The Menjangan. The birding packages in the resort is very limited and confines only within the resort boundaries. We recruited the services of Idris, and we were not disappointed. He knows the place in and out and took us to the right birding spots. We had 3 sessions of birding roughly 4 hours each session and every time it was a different place and a change of habitat for spotting some birds which we had mentioned we wanted to see. We spotted Bali Myna, Javan Myna, Malkohas, Trillers, Woodpeckers, Scarlet flowerpeckers, Sunbirds, Nightjars, Bulbuls, Munias etc. Idris made sure we spent sufficient time out in the field and infact also helped arrange these sessions in the budget we had in mind. Weather was a bit of bummer at times, but overall good sessions. Do reach out to Idris (+62 823-4018-5768), apart from birding he also organizes other activities like snorkeling etc.Visited February 2024Traveled with familyWritten February 18, 2024
- Aidan M16 contributionsGreat time with Idris exploring nature!Went with Idris and did the trekking and birdwatching in the savannah forest, sunrise boating, snorkeling, and safari trip. It was a great experience, Idris was very helpful and was great at guiding us for the birding! Idris was also able to give us references for drivers to take us to and from Seminyak, which was very helpful as well. The sunrise boating and the snorkelling was phenomenal, despite the trash caused by the rainy season. Would highly recommend it although you need to get lucky with weather! We were unlucky with the safari trip and went during a religious festival - many of the locals did a pilgrimage to the temple in the park and the animals were not present. If you're doing a safari, check to make sure it's not a religious holiday!Visited February 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten March 22, 2024

We did a brilliant trek in the national park, our guide Idris was very knowledgeable of the wildlife and we loved our tour with him. Then took a boat over to Menjangan Island for snorkelling a saw so many fish and turtle! Great day and would recommend getting in touch with Idris if you want a great adventure.Visited May 2024Traveled with friendsWritten May 7, 2024

- Roos P1 contributionVery nice tripWe went on a day trip with Idris. It was amazing, we really enjoyed! Idris came to our hotel the day before to discuss all details. On the day of the trip we were picked up at the hotel at 6.30am (Pemuteran). We were driven to the park, then we went a bit further by boot. We did a bird watching trekking and saw different kinds of birds, but also deers and black monkeys. Idris also explained about different trees used for herbal medicine. After the trekking (about 6km, 3 hours) we took the boat to Menjangan island for snorkeling. First place for snorkeling was amazing, lots of fish and corals. Then we had lunch on the island (Idris prepared this for us). Then another snorkeling where we also saw a turtle. After this we took the boat back, where we could shower and then we were brought back to our hotel. We were back around 1-1.30pm. The tour is not cheap (around 100 euros per pax), but it's a private tour and everything was taken care of (transportation, lunch, snorkel gear etc). Idris is very kind and also made photos of us. Would recommend!Visited June 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten June 24, 2024

He was extremely competent, friendly, and reliable. His knowledge surrounding West Bali National Park, its plants, and its animals made our tour extremely valuable. He is a real special guy. - Chris T5 contributionsPerfect day with West Bali National ParkWe found Idris through our Bali travel guide book. There are a couple of pictures here with his business cards, so I don’t have to repeat those information, only that it was definitely an amazing experience and we recommended for anybody who wants to: 1) see the sunrise on the open sea, 2) have an amazing guided tour through the national park and 3) close with easy and colorful coral snorkeling. It’s been a perfect couple of hours and Idris is a very experienced tour guide. He arranged the pick up from our place and of course drop off as well :-) Thank you very much. I’m happy that we did not miss this day in our life!Visited July 2024Traveled with familyWritten July 15, 2024
- Deborah F8 contributionsA great experience for solo travellers.A fantastic option for solo travellers. I went on a guided tour from the back of a scooter with park guide, Wayan, who was very knowledgeable. He picked me up from my accommodation in Pemuteran. Park entry was 200k IDR and 500k IDR for 4 1/2 hours with Wayan (including pick up and drop off). I recommend going early. We saw most animals before 9:30 am. The roads were good and all the park staff were really friendly. A fabulous experience.Visited September 2024Traveled soloWritten September 12, 2024

We were disappointed by this ride. The only animals we saw were the squirrels and the same monkeys that were on the sides of the road. The price of entry (200 kf per person and the guide 400 kf for the group are absolutely not justified) We do not recommend this excursion

We visited the West National Bali Park in end of July 2022, it was a dry season with the temperature was around 30°C. It was warm, but bearable and less humid. We took two activities (cycling and snorkeling) with Pak Idris, he is a certified guide from West Bali National Park. The cycling track was around ~33km, took us about ~6.5hours. It included quick breaks here and there, and lunch. The cycling was fun! We passed beach, mangrove forest, savannah, and monsoon forest. We also get to watch barking deers, black monkeys, giant squirrel, macaques, and Bali Starling bird. Prepare yourself with uneven, rocky, or sandy terrain in the National Park. If you think that ~33km is too much, Pak Idris can arrange a shorter trip. The snorkeling in Pulau Menjangan was also fun! We get to see many beautiful fishes, colorful corals, and sea turtles! Pak Idris is also very friendly, knowledgable, and helpful. Definitely recommended! You can contact him via WhatsApp: +6282340185768, or come to the office of West Bali National Park at Labuan Lalang.

We visited West Bali National Park during the dry season of 2023 for trekking and safari. It was not supposed to rain, but it did. Our guide Idris (thanks for the recommendations!) met us at the hotel the day before to explain what we would do the next day, and despite the rain we decided to continue with the activities, although there was less chance of seeing the animals. I'm a primatologist and I lived in the jungle for more than two years, and I can say that Idris has incredible skills when it comes to tracking and recognizing all the species in the park! We were eventually able to locate several groups of leaf monkeys, two Bali starling (critically endangered), deer, and of course many macaques. The park is in an area quite different from the "better known" Bali, much quieter and simpler. The main problem is that the strong sea currents bring a lot of garbage from Java, so the wonderful landscape is full of garbage (including the National Park itself)... quite sad. From Ubud it takes about 5 hours by taxi (counting the traffic) and it costs considerably more than the bus, but the route goes through incredible places so it's worth spending more money and having the freedom to stop at the rice terraces, villages and temples that are along the way.

I met I Ketut Sulatra (from Starling Bali), one of the park rangers of the TNBB.
We went on two excursions together and both were incredible. I learned so much about plant and animal life in West Bali. First excursion was in the monsoon forest and second in the tropical forest, I’d definitely recommend both. Had the chance of tasting so many new plants and fruits and would trust Ketut as a survival guide for sure!!
Ketut has an almost impeccable English which is self-taught. He is also a very kind and generous person!! He really cares about the life in the park, the environment and people.
Looking forward to going back again!

We chose the bird watching excursion in the evergreen forest with Idris. The 4 hour trek turned out to be great with various landscapes and sightings of many species of birds with explanations about each animal and the plants of the jungle. He also took us to see black monkeys in their natural environment, and despite their fear we had the opportunity to observe them thanks to the binoculars brought by Idris.
It is a guide that I recommend, he comes the day before the chosen activity to meet you to discuss the progress, the modalities and the wishes of each person. He even arranged transportation from our accommodation to the park, and found us a driver the next day for our departure to Kuta.

We read all the reviews and decided to follow the recommendation to contact Pak Idris. Despite very short-notice we were able to join a trekking and snorkeling trip, which were both absolutely worth it. Trekking was challenging, especially without proper foot wear, however we were able to see the Bali starling, black monkeys and deers very close. Snorkeling trip was a lot of fun, very well guided and we even saw a sea turtle.
We would absolutely further recommend Pak Idris, as he knows how to get to hidden spots to see more than just the minimum and is very open and helpful towards visitors.

The national park is interesting with mangroves and mostly jungle. Did a 3 hour cycling tour and snorkeling with Idris one day and and then did a sunrise boat tour and a 2 hour trek the next day.
The cycling is very tiring if you’re not an experienced cyclist and the paths are very narrow and with lots of bushes and branches on the sides you get scraped up so you need to wear long sleeves (I told Idris that he should tell guests about this and also show them pictures of the bike “path” so they know what to expect. It was definitely very challenging to cycle through the jungle so be ready for that.
The snorkeling was beautiful and I saw sea turtles. I also requested for a more comfortable boat for sunrise tour and Idris accommodated that. Saw black monkeys, deers, and bali starling during the trek. I think the trek is mostly interesting for those who are really into birds. Idris is knowledgeable about birds and plants.
Overall Idris is a good guide, he just needs to give people more forewarning about what’s coming up and to show them some pictures.

Hello. If the entry fee to the National Park is paid once, must it be paid again within (say) 2-3 days? If I go into the park on one day for a trek, and then go snorkelling in the park on another, do I need to pay twice? Thank you.

I'm struggling to find information about prices for guides. I believe park entrance fees are IDR 200-330 k depending on whether it's a weekday or a weekend. Is that correct? But I can't find info about guides and whether they are obligatory. Reading some of these reviews it seems that you can just enter the park and wonder around without a guide, but I read something on another website that said you couldn't go hiking without a guide. If you pay for a guide for an hour do you have to leave the park when your hour is over?
Also, somebody mentioned that they spent the day looking around the park on their motorbikes. Would it be possible to cycle round the park? Is it allowed?
Thanks in advance for your feedback.
