Our trip across Qinghai with Wangden, our SnowLion guide and driver, was hands down one of the highlights of a difficult 2020. My fiancé and I saw gorgeous nature, learned about Tibetan Buddhism while visiting monasteries and nunneries perched atop mountaintops, and camped at Amnye Machen, the snow-capped holy Tibetan mountain. Tsering of SnowLion created a tailor-made seven-day tour for us after we told him we wanted to visit Amnye Machen and the Golog prefecture. During the trip, we saw beautiful land formations, what felt like 100 different types of mountains, canyons, river valleys and Qinghai Lake, China’s largest lake, at an altitude of 3,200 meters. It was a gorgeous, relaxing and spiritual trip. Wangden was a fantastic driver and guide. I think this will go down as one of the most beautiful journeys of our lives. We can’t wait to go back to the area and perhaps visit Gansu province and the Tibetan areas of Sichuan province with SnowLion.

My fiancée and I had a wonderful 7-day trip around Qinghai with SnowLion Tours. The trip was customized to our interests, and the itinerary was planned with our input and was flexible from day to day based on our day to day experiences. Our guide, WangDen, was amazing - he spoke Tibetan, Qinghai dialect, Mandarin and English - and by the end of the trip had become a good friend. At Qinghai lake, he talked to local Tibetan nomads and found trails down to the lake for an epic experience on the shore; at Amnye Machen, a holy mountain in Tibetan Buddhism, we camped at 12,500 feet (3800m) in the shadow of the mountain with stars that were as bright as planets; he found pilgrimage trails up to a Buddhist shrine where the massive glaciers off the mountain were a mere 100m away; his knowledge and passion for Tibetan Buddhism enriched every stop we made at monasteries and nunneries all over the land, from just outside Xining, to the quaint town of Raja in a deep canyon on the Yellow river surrounded by eroded red clay mountains, and to a mountain pinnacle-top nunnery in the Kanbula National Park; every mile/kilometer of the trip was scenic and picturesque. The entire trip was seamless and fully supported by Tenzin Tsering every step of the way. We very much look forward to planning our next trip with SnowLion Tours.

i had been in contact with wagnden la earlier in the year but with other schedule discrepancies, couldn't manage the trip at the time of initial contact. a few months later, my husband and i were inspired to make it happen for my birthday in november (9days tour starting in xining (amdo) and ending in lhasa/gyantse/shigatse (u-tsang). i would suggest that if you have specific interests, do your research and then speak to wangden about what is possible. he was always helpful/realistic about what was feasible with the amount of days we had available. i expressed an interested in master tsongkhapa, founder of geluk school and he def went above and beyond to show us monasteries that would be of great interest, as well as organising a dinner with a monk friend (gendun phalsang-la) who was kind and so patient to answer some questions for us (despite our jet lag and lack of coherence:). TIBET is just stunning and both wangden (amdo) and dhrondup (lhasa) as guides and practising tiebtan buddhists were an extension of what made it such a memorable time, so much that we are returning again with friends. mainly, i would strongly suggest to support snowlion because it is a tibetan owned agency and it does make a difference. thank you and see you again soon, am sure it's only the start of many returns, so much to see and with altitude sickness - the longer the stay, the easier i think. ours was just a quick trip from london. ADVICE: keep time difference/time of year (peak season) in mind with regards to correspondence and leave plenty of time for planning. ALSO a lot of helpful information is on their website...READ IT. it's rather comprehensive but don't be afraid to ask for clarification for your benefit. it can seem overwhelming with all the chinese visa info but they are there to help. they are so patient!:) so much more to say but mainly, they are knowledgeable, humble and they care about tibet.

I just got home from a short but amazing journey in Qinghai area with a private tour, which made me feel so glad when I chose SnowLion. I was impressed with Tenzin Tsering from SnowLion when simultaneously contacted with some other agents. He professionally helped me to made an interesting itinerary from places I wanted to visit. And when I informed them that I wasn't able to do deposit for my trip until I arrive Lhasa (just 15 days before the tour with them), they really understood for my situation and accepted that, which made me greatly appreciated their support. Tenzin (he also was my guide) made a huge surprise for me one day with "Kim's Tibet Adventure" written on the rear window of the car. Then, himself with his patience, knowledge, thoughfulness and the tiredless driver (who I wanted to call as uncle Wangchen) really made my trip became an adventure with full of emotion and cultivation about Tibet nature, culture as well Buddism. They did their best to help me to arrange everything so I could enjoy my trip in the memorable way. They really cared about my feeling and my expectation. More than a guide and a driver, they were my friends, they didnt just show me, they shared every moments on the way with me. I felt like I had to say goodbye to my friends. Then I went home and now keep thinking about how wonderful the trip I got in Tibet with them. Thank so much, Tenzin and uncle Wangchen for everything you had done for me. Thank you so much, SnowLion team, for all your efforts to made my tour became more than expected. But I still didnt get enough of amazing Tibet, so I will come back and definitely come to SnowLion again. Thank you, Kim
