We spent 12 days in Tibet in January 2020, in the middle of the Tibetan winter. It was cold, but the skies were an incredible clear blue. There were few tourists. The Tibetan farmers and nomads had left their icy hills and farms and made the pilgrimage to the many monasteries. The local people were extremely friendly and made us feel very welcome. We like to choose local companies and Tibet Travelers was recommended by the Tibet Lonely Planet guide book. The Manager is Tenzin Dhondup, who was extremely helpful from the first to the last email, and met us shortly after arriving in Lhasa. I had many, many questions to ask and all were answered clearly and accurately. Everything went like clockwork. We took the train from Beijing to Lhasa and were met at the station by our guide Nyima and driver Tenzin. Nyima spoke excellent English and calmly navigated us through the next 12 days. He was a fantastic guide, attentive to our questions and concerns, extremely punctual, very knowledgeable and knew when to step back when we wanted some time to ourselves. Tenzin was a careful and considerate driver, we never once felt unease during the trip, on some quite challenging roads and amazingly high passes, The trip itself was amazing. We spent 3 nights in Lhasa - helpful to acclimatise to the altitude, 1 night in Gyantse, 1 night in Shigatse, 2 nights in Pelber (New Tingri) - we chose not to spent the night at Everest Base Camp because of the extreme cold and wind that day, 1 night in Shigatse, 1 night in Samye and 2 nights back in Lhasa. We visited many monasteries, that included all the four schools of Buddhism. This included Jokhang Temple, Potala Palace, Ralung, Shalu, Sakya and Rongbuk Monasteries as well as the Gyantse Kumbum and Drak Yerba meditation caves, as well as others. Some were enormous, filled and surrounded by local pilgrims, others much smaller. We saw incredible Buddha statues, paintings, tapestries, scriptures in beautiful rooms, all enhanced by the light of the Yak butter candles. The devotion of the Monks, local people, nomads and pilgrims was palpable, especially walking the Barkhor around the Johkang Temple. The stark winter beauty of the country was awe inspiring. Yamdrok Lake, Mt Nyenchen Khangsar glacier, Yarlung Tsangpo Brahmaputra river, Ganden valley, the Himalayas and of course the incredible North Face of Mount Everest - from the distance at Geu La Pass and close up at Base Camp. We also had plenty of time to explore each town we visited, sampling local food in both tiny and enormous teahouses, and exploring the intriguing local shops and markets. We also discovered more modern restaurants and wine bars that had great food, wine and atmosphere. All in all an amazing trip. Thank you again to Tenzin, Nyima and Tenzin for a trip of a lifetime. I would strongly recommend Tibet Travelers to anyone thinking of visiting this beautiful country

We visited Tibet in January 2020. The tour company we used in Tibet was Tibet Travelers, operated by manager Tenzin Dhondup. Tenzin was wonderful in helping us organise the tour to Tibet. I had complete confidence in our holiday going well from my first email with Tenzin Dhondup. We had a private tour for 2 people guided by a tour guide Palmo Rinchen and with a driver Tenzin Tenpin. We were in Lhasa for 6 nights, Gyantse for 1 night, Shigatse 2 nights, Shegar (new Tingri) for 1 night and Sakya 1 night. We expanded on the 9 Day Mt Everest Base Camp to Lhasa tour on the Tibet Traveler’s website. The tour was very professionally organised by Tenzin, with everything running like clockwork. What we appreciated the most was the warm friendliness of Tenzin Dhondup, the guide Palmo Rinchen and the driver Tenzin Tenpin. This was the beginning of us feeling very welcome in Tibet. The people we met in Tibet made us feel very welcome in their country. Our guide Palmo Rinchen was excellent, she spoke very good and clear English, she was very knowledgeable about Tibet and all of the sites we visited. She also took time to help us with personal needs, such as, buying warmer clothes and lip balm. We really enjoyed Palmo’s fun and happy personality and she was a pleasure to see and spend time with every day of our tour. Palmo was great in adapting the tour to suit our needs and interests. Our driver Tenzin Tenpin was a very skilled and safe driver, we had complete confidence in him, even when we were climbing some steep, windy and icy mountain passes. We were in Tibet in winter, which is great because we met a lot of local Tibet farmers and nomads at the monasteries, who were all very friendly. However, being from a warm climate we did not bring the right cold weather gear for the winter. This was our issue with planning and we would recommend travellers to Tibet consider the weather conditions at the time of year they are visiting. We highly recommend visiting Tibet and touring with Tibet Travelers, operated by manager Tenzin Dhondup, tour guide Palmo Rinchen and driver Tenzin Tenpin.

We spent 7 days in Amazing Tibet at the beginning of January 2020. Tenzin was very helpful from the beginning when we contacted him to start with the preparations of our trip as there are some steps to bare in mind in regards Chinese visa and others. All the crew we have met from the agency (in Kathmandu and Tibet) were very nice, polite and great company; I have to highlight and at the same give a BIG THANK YOU to Gelek our guide and Nyima our driver for giving us such an amazing experience During our days in Tibet. Gelek is just an open book and a specialist in all topics related with his culture, we have learned so much about this fantastic culture from day one; it was also very helpful sharing with us his knowledge and experiences when it was time to get to mountain Everest. I feel we leave some good friends in Tibet, even when we were just for some days, they are just the kind of people you pray to have in trips like this. P.d. Maybe you’re lucky enough to meet Gelek’s daughter, who is a charming 7 year old girl :)

I visited Tibet Solo Dec 22-Dec 27 2019 and Tenzin the owner was a joy to contact and made the process extremely easy. He came to meet me on my first day in Lhasa and kept contact throughout and met me on my last day in Tibet as well. My itinerary took me 2 full days in Lhasa and one night 2 days for Gyantse and Shigatse. The driver (also Tenzin) and Nima (the Guide) were wonderful. They were friendly and treated me like family which was nice since I was solo. I was on Diamox and was fine with the altitude but on my fourth night in Shigatse, I had terrible altitude sickness that hit me around 3 am that had me with a pounding head, blue lips, and wheezing. I called Nima straight away and he was in my hotel room in 1 minute. Nima gave me oxygen and stayed with me for a long time and was in my room again at 7 am. Nima literally saved my life and I am thankful. He offered to take me to the hospital but I wanted oxygen first and I felt better after getting oxygen. In the morning, he took me to the pharmacy to get medicine and oxygen bottles and checked on me throughout the day. Nima and Tenzin were wonderful throughout and took care of me. I would definitely recommend them and Tibet Travelers to anyone visiting Tibet. I will definitely contact Tibet Travelers the next time I visit Tibet. Thank you.

Extremely highly recommended. Gelek spoke excellent English and was continuously attentive to our every need. He made sure we had an excellent time, and experienced the local culture. He is himself originally from the area close to mount Everest, so he knows intimately the local customs and he is also very well versed in Buddhist lore and the history of the monasteries we visited. I very highly recommend him. The Tibet Travelers agency and Tenzin with whom we communicated, was also extremely responsive giving quick answers to all the questions we had about border checks and visa permits
