Better than the riverboat cruises of Hangzhou, Suzhou, or the ancient water towns or canal towns. Hundreds of boats, long line-ups, but still fantastic. Nearby there's a hundred restaurants, including one with a rooftop bar. A 40 minute cruise for twenty bucks or 100 rmb. It's an evening cruise with lots of lights. Opens at six. Line-ups start at 5. Worth it.

Nice area to visit and to take a river cruise to look at old buildings. Very beautiful at night time with all the lights.

We went in late March 2021 and they had many new light displays set up. It is very busy near the shops and Confucious Temple areas but just past this it is nice. Many boats traverse the river for the displays but we enjoyed just walking around the river area so that we could take our time seeing it all.

Most of the area is free to walk around but if you like lanterns and light displays we would recommend checking out Bailuzhou Park nearby.

Closest metro is Confucious Temple Station and I would recommend going in the evening. Shops start to close around 9:00 pm and they kept the lights on until around 10:00 pm on a Monday evening when we went.

Even on the Golden Week, there was a ton of people visited this area, I couldn't see trash, no pickpocket, pushing, etc... very well-organized and safe. Convenient by taking metro.

Wooooooo
Went here on holiday period. Was a mass of people. Interesting however if you have been to an old section of a Chinese city they all appear the same. Maybe I’ve seen too many. But if you haven’t then worth a look

View is nicer at night when the street is fully lighted up as well as for those interested to do the river cruise.
There are plenty of shops selling the same thing along the streets (pastry/sourvenir). So do not worry about missing or forgetting any shops.

The inside track on river boat cruises in much of China, especially inside cities, is to take to the water after dark as buildings are usually festooned in dazzling light displays. This is especially so around the Chinese New Year period. In Nanjing you have two options for the Qinhuai River, the Yangtze tributary that leads from the vast stretch of that river into the city proper. You can join the masses around the Confucius temple in the downtown area which has the benefit of being relatively easy to find. The alternative is to head to the Stone City Park which can be easily found on most electronic maps and the wharf/dock, once there, is relatively easy to find. There is currently an 80 Yuan cruise, lasting about an hour, from the wharf/dock in Stone City Park. This trip takes you down to the illuminated walls and past some interesting building including pagodas and others dazzling with New Year illuminations. It is a really comfortable, clean and modern boat with ceiling windows ... completely sealed so no issues about being cold in winter and presumably it will be nicely cooled in the summer when it is like a furnace in Nanjing. Stone City Park is worth a rummage too as it has a sizable chunk of the original Nanjing wall built into stratified rock. The park also has one of the cleanest toilets I have ever used in China! A further attraction is you'll avoid the crowds who congregate in and around the Confucius Temple area downtown.

While in Nanjing the river boat tour on 'qin huai' is a nice way to see some of the things 'behind the scene'. It is not very expensive and gives you some additional insights of the city.

Some lovely old Chinese architecture based on the edge of the river. However it can be very busy and is full of different shops making it more like an outdoor shopping mall!

if you get the chance to take a boat ride up and down the qin huai its a good experience. the scenery along the shores is ancient and gives a glimpse into china away from the tourist scene.
