The islands in the middle of the lake are particularly pretty. Certainly worth having a walk around and there are peddle boats too if you fancy it. I entered from the South East side (having done the Zhongshan scenic area just before) and exited to the West (where you can catch line 1 at Xuanwumen 玄武门) Name in Chinese: 玄武湖

Nice place to relax. Especially on hot days. Rent a small electric boat or a pedalo. Cheap to rent a boat, but you also pay a deposit. You rent the boat for an hour. Tip! To have time to get back in time, you should not travel outside the inner basin, before you turn back.

It's a very beautiful lake, and also very huge. I came here in the morning, and it takes 4 hours to go around. In summer, it's very hot in here. So, prepare a lot of water before coming here. It's been said that the night view is also as splendid as the day view.

In this huge bustling city, the lake and various paths around it provide a real oasis. We were there in July and there are shady paths on the city side. There are electric boats for hire and you get good city views. You can also walk alongside the lake on the city wall but there is an entry fee. In... More

The xuanwu park is very nice but you need to walk a little to avoid the crowded area. The best solution is to enter from train station gate. There are many small ways are garden which are interesting to visit. I recommend to go there in the evening to see the sunset.

It is a huge and beautiful park, be prepared to walk a lot. It is kind of crowded too even with that size.

You can walk around the island areas but we took a shuttle. It was just lovely. The tour guide only spoke in Chinese which was disappointing. The lake is not promoted as much as it should be
