We took the subway to the Nanjing Railroad station. We incorrectly exited from the North Square exit and ended up taking a complimentary connector bus to the South Square. Once we arrived we saw the lake across the street. We followed along the lake towards the Xuanwumen Gate. We strolled by lily ponds, rest areas, traditional Chinese buildings, gardens, ancient... If you are happen to be in Nanjing, then this is the place you do not want to miss. This park is National Grade AAAA Attraction and surprisingly the entry fee is free of cost, which makes it one of the reason to visit it. There are several gates through which you can enter. Popular ones are through Xuanwu Gate,... More

Lovely lake for relaxing and/or exercise. I wish I had more time to spend here but unfortunately with the compressed schedule I wasn't able to see much while there (12-hour jet lag doesn't help). While here also ensure you go up on the city wall as there are some interesting highlights and war weaponry displays at the top.

Xuanwu Lake is a stone's throw from Nanjing Forestry University. It has approximately an 8 mile perimeter, and so you can get in a good walk around the lake (if you're fit, ~2-3 hours). Early mornings and evenings are absolutely the best times to visit and you can expect to see thousands of locals out getting in their daily exercise... More

It is so nice to come here any time during the week and enjoy a walk along the lake - leaving the buzzling city behind you and finding a great bit of quiet and lush greenery - very conveniently located in the city. It can get crowded on weekends, especially on Sundays and Public Holidays though. Additionally you can easily... More

It's a very big lake and be prepared to walk. When you enter the lake area keep walking straight and on the left you will see many boats and also lots of lotus plants and flowers. It's worth a visit and it's Free.

The islands in the middle of the lake are particularly pretty. Certainly worth having a walk around and there are peddle boats too if you fancy it. I entered from the South East side (having done the Zhongshan scenic area just before) and exited to the West (where you can catch line 1 at Xuanwumen 玄武门) Name in Chinese: 玄武湖

Nice place to relax. Especially on hot days. Rent a small electric boat or a pedalo. Cheap to rent a boat, but you also pay a deposit. You rent the boat for an hour. Tip! To have time to get back in time, you should not travel outside the inner basin, before you turn back.
