A serious scientific museum

The museum shows off China's rich fossil record along with selections from the rest of the world. There is plenty of English to read. The highlights were the fossil of a feathered dinosaur and the huge fossils of crinoids.

A worthy stop if visiting with children

OK - so all the signage is in Chinese (annoying - but we are in China!!) However, there are a number of huge skeletons and lots and lots of fossils and some pretty good drawings. When we were there they were showing a BBC Dinosaur movie on a loop which was a nice breather. Toilets were ok but didn't see any refreshments. It is next door (down the hill) from Jiming temple and a nominal entrance fee (20rmb?) so if you are in the area it is worth stopping by.

good place for a short trip

Visiting this place for 1 hour, follwed by jiminsi temple for 1 hour and finally xuanwu lake for 3-5 hour is a good itinerary because they are located at a distance of about 100 meter each.The Ticket cost 20 RMB. You can watch a 20 minute 3D film inside the museum for extra 10 RMB which needs to be paid in the ticket counter. 50% Student discount is available.The museum opens to the general public on Saturday and Sunday. The museum has dinosaurs bones and fossils of other animals. Appropriate for Family, couples and Friends.

Not only for children! There are some interesting satellite maps of Nanjing, castes of homoerectus and plenty of fossils. There's a huge amount to learn in a very compact space.

This place is NOT for routine kids, if you expect to see lots of Dinosaur and ancient Mammal skeletons, you will be disappointed. These are few and far between.
This is more for the serious paleontologist people out there, lots and lots of fossils, but not the type to impress the kids. There are English and Chinese signs, though English is lacking in some places. 85% of the fossils are from the PRC, with a scattering of others thrown in. As fossil collections go, they did a nice job.
Worth a visit if you are in the area and enjoy fossils
