The area
Neighborhood: Central
When people think of Hong Kong, most imagine movies with famous skyscrapers dominating the skyline. The area widely known as Central is the major financial hub and entertainment district, which truly lives up to the saying, “work hard, play hard.” Bars stay open late into the night and there just happens to be a street party every weekend. Although everything seems to be operating at lightning speed, Central is full of quiet, hidden gems. Nestled between office towers are wet markets and some of the city’s oldest restaurants dating back to the 1960s. Feeling a bit overwhelmed? Retreat from the crowds by exploring beautifully restored historical buildings and even a green oasis of botanical gardens.

This is one of the best night's out in Hong Kong. Its a performance venue decorated with cool paintings all over the walls. It is comfortable with tables and couches--like someplace you would find in the Village in NY. The staff is super friendly and speaks English well. The food is surprisingly good for a "bar." But what is astonishing is the variety of performances they have. We saw a local jazz trumpeter named Adrian Kelly and his band and they were fantastic! They played a mix of upbeat jazz classics and romantic movie music. It was great!

Not easy to locate, entrance of the non descript building at street level with no adverts whatsoever.
Building has more than one club (it's a hong kong thing, rents are cheaper than at street level). Go to the 2nd floor.
Nice bar with live music stage. Very nice and professional staff. The salsa party organizer and teacher Franky Wong made me feel quickly at home, the other dancers/guests were friendly, had a joke or two with the bar staff and I had a great night out. You pay 150 HK$ for 2 drinks if you are here for the dancing. Relaxed atmosphere, chinese and expat mix, no show offs. Will come back

Last night me and my friend heard about a gig at Peel Fresco Lounge, formerly known as Orange Peel Lounge, tucked away in Peel street its a cozy place with an intimate stage fitting a small crowd. They seem to manage to get the unusual local talent on the stage and we enjoyed a nice A capella performance. What left a bit of a bitter feeling was their rather strange Cover charge handling. Its 150 per head and includes a Drink, we ordered a bottle wine which exceed that by far and to my surprise we were still charged the cover charge and the waiter when we ordered did not even bother to make us aware of that. Plus putting a service fee on top of the cover charge is clearly unprofessional! Its a point they need to rethink how to better handle as we feel kind of "fleeced".

This is the only place in HK at the moment where you can enjoy original live music outside a concert hall. Expect plenty of jazz and original singer/songwriters performing their stuff here.
A lot of international acts from the jazz genre perform here from time to time.
Drinks and food are extremely reasonable priced (under HK$100) and staff are welcoming.
To see who is performing go to their website or Facebook for the schedule.
They also have jam session here if you are musician.

Oh maybe I'm too mean! Not a jazz fan but they played Jazz& Blues... Very talented musicians I'm sure, just not my cup of tea. Customers seem are older, not for pop music lovers!

If you want to get away from the crowd down below in the street of Lan Kwai Fong, hop up to Orange Peel for some live music. Great music and good atmosphere

Finally, a great venue with a diverse line up of live music, serving both food drinks isn't easy to find in Hong Kong - Orange Peel is in the heart of LKF & is exceptional in their wide range of musical performances 6 days a week. The lounge setting is both artistic & cozy (capacity of 130) featuring a nine-foot grand piano and interesting large scale wall murals. Another unique feature.., customer service from the sommelier himself. Every time I have visited, Marcus Valle, partner and sommelier makes a point of walking around, introducing himself and getting to know his customers. Besides his knowledge of wine, as a partner of Orange Peel, he has unique insight into setting up & running a business in Hong Kong. He’s approachable style and insight along with Orange Peel’s mix of music offerings is a compelling combination and has all the ingredients for success.
