The area

Neighborhood: Central
When people think of Hong Kong, most imagine movies with famous skyscrapers dominating the skyline. The area widely known as Central is the major financial hub and entertainment district, which truly lives up to the saying, “work hard, play hard.” Bars stay open late into the night and there just happens to be a street party every weekend. Although everything seems to be operating at lightning speed, Central is full of quiet, hidden gems. Nestled between office towers are wet markets and some of the city’s oldest restaurants dating back to the 1960s. Feeling a bit overwhelmed? Retreat from the crowds by exploring beautifully restored historical buildings and even a green oasis of botanical gardens.

A cheap way to get a great view.
For the price of 20 HKD per person, you get to go around 3 times and see a great view. It is worth it if the lineup isn't huge. You can book the whole carriage for yourself but that will cost you 130 HKD.
Hi CanuckJames, Appreciate your time to leave us a review. As we can get fairly busy during key holidays, we do recommend booking online to save time. Also to clarify a private gondola is HKD 160 and can accommodate up to 8 people.

    HK Wheel - great experience
How good is this - so cheap as well HK$20 per person. Adjacent to the HK harbor - amazing views from the wheel. There are many shops and other things to do around the wheel. Easy access from the ferry services or Metro - or a wonderful walk along the waterfront on the HK island side of the harbor.
Greetings gcrefs, we want to thank you for the review! We are glad you enjoyed your visit with us and hope to see you again soon. We often host interesting events and offer free wellness classes at the AIA Vitality Hub so do catch them if you have the chance.

HK Ferris Wheel - must do
This was a great experience and very cheap compared to other major cities. The wheel went round three times and views at night amazing. There is a funky set up around the wheel too and is a must do when in HK.

Very good views from the gondola.
Handily located near the Star Ferry Terminal and Big Bus. Not the highest that we have been on but still good views from a height of sixty metres over Victoria Harbour to Kowloon and Tsim Tsa Tsui and surrounding areas on the Hong Kong island waterfront. Gondolas are airconditioned, spacious and with good viability. HK$10 for seniors and we enjoyed three circuits.

Would recommend. Relaxing with nice views. Very cheap ticket as well.
I was shocked how cheap it was at 20 HKD for an adult (December, 2024). Not sure if it is a special offer over the festive period. I booked my ticket online but you can purchase the ticket there too. The line was long but it moved quickly. I started queueing at 18:05 and was at the front around 18:40. The gondola accommodates up to 8 people. The Wheel ride time is about 15 minutes, although it felt longer. Don't worry if you are sitting in the middle as you can still see. If you are afraid of heights, I would reconsider going, as it does stop for periods and your sort of hanging in the air! I enjoyed it. Very relaxing and you had a nice overview of the Hong Kong skyline. Up and close to the skyscrapers. Staff were very friendly and helpful. I accidently booked my ticket for the wrong day but the manager was lovely and let me go on another day. There is a professional photographer if you want one of those cheesy photographs that you can purchase after. Would recommend for sure.

    Beautiful views
Ferris Wheel 60 m high located on Central Quay, Central, Hong Kong. It has 42 gondolas, including one VIP gondola with leather seats and a clear glass bottom. All gondolas are equipped with air conditioning and communication systems. Each trip involves two or three turns and takes about 15 minutes. Each gondola can accommodate a maximum of eight people, except for the VIP gondola, which can accommodate five people. It's not realistic to get in this weekend

The wheel stops most of the time and there isn't that great of views from it. Given that your viewpoints are narrowed down to where you're seated so if you're in a big group or wanting to really appreciate the scenery in privacy I'd recommend booking the whole gondola. Each gondola holds 8 people. The festival activities going on around it makes this wheel worth visiting. Queues take upwards of 15 minutes, recommend buying tickets in advance.

The top of the ferris wheel allows you stunning views over Victoria Harbour (particularly at night), so it's well worth the £2 entrance fee. You have to usually share your carriage with other people and there are also long queues (we waited 30 minutes to get on), so ensure you have a fan & lots of water with you. Well worth a visit here.

I rode the Ferris wheel for the first time when I was almost 20 years old🎡😂because I always thought I was afraid of heights, so I avoided it😂😂(I didn’t regret it after the ride)

I saw the beautiful scenery of Central and Victoria Harbor in mid-air. From a low point, I thought it was too high, but in fact it wasn’t that high and it didn’t turn very fast. Personally, I think the scenery before dusk is not as beautiful as the scenery at night, so I recommend going at night🎡

We joyfully brought our friends to the Ferris wheel, only to have a disappointing journey. After buying the tickets that day, the staff responsible for checking the tickets had a terrible attitude - arrogant, lazy, and spoke to guests with a dismissive tone. Our initial excitement quickly faded away. We initially thought that it was just their attitude towards us, but we witnessed the same behavior towards other guests as well, which was truly disheartening. We hope this issue is addressed.

In terms of the hardware, the QR codes they asked us to scan were already worn out and unreadable.

This has to be the best value tourist attraction in Hong Kong. Hong Kong’s version of the London Eye is located down by the harbour opposite the Star Ferry terminals. Tickets are HK$20/$10 for kids (a fraction of what you’d pay in London). Recently I haven’t seen any queues so there’s no need to pre-book. Just walk up and get your tickets on the spot.
The gondolas are fully enclosed although you may have to share the gondola with others. As there are few tourists right now, I think it’s a fairly safe to assume that you will probably have it to yourself. However, for around the same cost as a single ticket on the London Eye, you can pay to have the gondola to yourself.
There is a very small fairground style area, ‘AIA Vitality Park’ although there’s not a lot here other than a carousel.
GETTING THERE: From the MTR Central Station take Exit A to the Central Piers. If you’re coming on the Star ferry, then you’ll see it in front of you as you come out of the ferry terminal.
TIP: There is a lovely promenade walk which starts pretty much at the wheel and follows the harbour all the way around to the Exhibition Centre at Wan Chai. It is a brilliant flat, paved walk with great views, parkland and artwork along the way (I’ve included a separate review).

Hi Mairwen1, Thank you for your informative review! Our tickets are reasonably priced so that people of all walks of life can enjoy the Wheel, in fact seniors 65+ and children 3 & below can ride the Wheel for free. We also aim to have all sorts of free entertainment for public enjoyment during the weekends, including wellness classes, live music & children's activities at the AIA Vitality Park, so do check our Facebook page @HKOWOfficial for updates.

The sightseeing attraction on the harbourfront on the Hong Kong Island side of Victoria Harbour labours under the prosaic title, the Hong Kong Observation Wheel. It would be called in eye in other cities that have such a feature. It's a great way to see the city, at least the immediate vicinity of the harbour and Central beyond. Booking is straightforward, with the handy kiosk metres away from the gondolas. It was quiet when we we were there, presumably because of the coronavirus. The short queue meant we were soon next in line. Once you're inside your cabin, the wheel moves at a gentle pace through the air, circling high above the city. Even for those nervous about heights, it shouldn't be taxing or worrisome. After a trip of about 15 minutes - two or three spins - you're back to ground again. The staff are attentive, helpful and efficient. At HK$20 for adults, the experience is economical for most and well worth fitting into your Hong Kong stay.

I've enjoyed the Observation Wheel a couple times over the past year, finding it to be a fair attraction, something particularly enjoyable for those visiting Hong Kong with families. Opening hours are 11am to 11pm daily.

Ticket prices are much cheaper these days (HK$20 per adult, HK$10 for children and seniors and free for those under 3 years of age). You can buy in advance on their website or at the ticket kiosk just near the ferris wheel.

In short, the Observation Wheel is a modern ferris wheel with 42 enclosed gondolas which can carry a max of 8 people. It rises to a height of 60 metres, affording nice views of the Hong Kong Skyline to the south and east and of Victoria Harbour and Kowloon to the north. A full cycle around the Observation Wheel takes approx 5-6 minutes and tickets are usually good for 2 or 3 spins depending on the queue sizes.

Lots of things are expensive in HK: rent, groceries, alcohol...but not this! For an unbelievably low HK$20 (around £2), you get a great view of the harbour and the buildings on both sides. When compared to other similar rides around the word, that is an amazing price. At the moment, with the city having so few tourists, there are no queues either and you’ll probably be able to get your own gondola without paying the full HK$160 either.

For HKD 20 per person it's OK. We have our own pod which was great, however, was not that impressed as the pod was quite misty and hence taking pictures from the pod was not ideal. It was an OK ride. I was bored pretty quickly as there is not much to do. The wheel just goes round 3 times.

Very nice view on top. the ferries wheel make 3 turns. Went at 7plus pm. Book the private cabin 160 HKD. I find it worth it as my whole family are inside the cabin without any stranger. We can keep taking pictures and move around in the cabin . Waited for maybe 15mins to board the cabin. A very nice experience for my boys
