Recreation Haven on the northern shores of Tolo Harbour
Nov 2020
Tai Mei Tuk is a popular recreation area around the Plover Cove Reservoir and Dam on the north side of the Tolo Harbour. This is hub and haven for outdoor activities making it a popular place for Hongkongers eager to spend time away from the chaos of the city on weekends and public holidays.

At Tai Mei Tuk is there are variety hikes that venture in and around the Plover Cove Reservoir and Country Park including the very popular Bride's Pool area. Visitors can also fly kites, rent a variety of boats and kayaks to use in the sea and cycle across the reservoir dam.

There are large designated BBQ areas, a handful of restaurants and couple of bars along the main road at the reservoir and dam turnoff. A handful of bike rental shops are found along this road as well. There is a youth hostel near the main Water Sport Centre but nothing else in the form of overnight accommodations in the area.

A popular way to arrive at Tai Mei Tuk is by way of the popular bike trail which starts in Tai Wai, passing Shatin, Science Park, Tai Po Waterfront and finally arriving in Tai Mei Tuk. Otherwise, day visitors can use of Minibus 20C (every 60-90 min), 75K (every 10-30 min) from the Tai Po Market MTR Station. There is also 275R on Sundays (10-20 min) going all the way out to Bridal Pool. These buses depart at the large bus terminus just outside the Tai Po Market MTR Station. Plenty of taxis at the MTR Station as well if you want a faster trip out to Tai Mei Tuk.

Cycling route ending at peaceful reservior
Jun 2019 • Couples
At the end of a cycling route that started at Shatin Park, which is minutes from Shatin MTR, Tai Mei Tuk is a village that has a bus terminal, bicycle rental shops, restaurants and a yacht club. It is also 5 minutes from Plover Cove reservoir which is a pleasant rest stop after about 2.5-3 hours of leisurely cycling. The cycling route is flat and easy, not ON road, and passing by housing estates, parks and industry (factories like Lee Kum Kee, etc making foods provided delicious smells along the way). An off the beaten track experience that is a refreshing change from shopping malls and busy city.

We returned the rental bikes (hired at Shatin Park) at Tai Mei Tuk instead of cycling back to Shatin and had lunch at a local Tai Mei Tuk restaurant serving Thai food. Then caught a bus that took us to an MTR for our return to Hong Kong island.

Bikes of different sizes available for hire at Shatin Park and all well pmaintained.

This is a popular place with locals who come to barbecue, ride a bike or row a boat. Nice sea view.
Cycling on the reservoir dam is enjoyable.

Avoid Tai mei tuk WAN WAH bike shop.
May 2018 • Family
Was there a couple of weeks with my kids n got ripped off by a bike rental shop called WAN WAH. Avoid going to this shop, i had to rush n booked a bike since my 4 yrs old princess was cranky n wanted the bike asap. Thus i booked from the closest shop to the bus terminal. What i paid for one hour was the price of daily. They have printed the price in chinese not in english. Later when i asked her why u charged me more she said 'shut up n go'. Stay vigilant to all my fellow travellers

Countryside in Hong Kong

If you are looking for a more relaxed type place to go in Hong Kong then this is one of many places you could visit. Probably more ideal if you are into biking or bbq. A selection of around half a dozen different restaurants offering Thai, Indian, Italian etc. You can rent bikes and go along the dedicated bike paths or by the water is a bbq area and a reservoir you can walk across to take in some nice scenery. It’s around a 10minute drive from tai po market station.

A great place for a half day visit
Feb 2018 • Family
We got here a bit before 10am. It’s a good time to arrive if you are driving, as the public car park was already more than half full.

From the car park it is a short walk to the bike rental shops on Ting Kok Road. We rented bikes for 2-3 hours for $60 per bike. It is a good spot to teach your child how to ride a bike - or for children who need more practice. The 2km stretch along the Plover Cove reservoir road is very good for beginners (as it is very wide and straight) and a leisurely ride for experienced cyclists. We enjoyed watching all the people taking windsurfing and kayaking lessons; later in the day people also come here to fly kites.

The path heading towards Tai Po is pleasant until it nears the large Guan Yin goddess statue - then it becomes a bit ugly and urban.

We enjoyed an okay lunch at CHUNG Shing Thai restaurant after returning the bicycles. I would recommend stopping by Mayse Artisan Bakery - it is two doors away from Jacks Restaurant and has lovely dense sourdough breads.

There are decent public failures near the car park - public toilets, BBQ pits with kiosk nearby (which sells BBQ supplies) - as well as numerous restaurants across the road.

Best place for cycling and BBQ
Dec 2017 • Friends
On a Saturday, I cycled with friends from Tai Wai to Tai Mei Tuk. There are a number of shops that you can rent bicycles near Tai Wai station and allow you to return the bicycles at Tai Mei Tuk with some extra fees.

We cycled via the cycling lane and hence, it was safe. The scenery along the cycling lane is beautiful.

At Tai Mei Tuk, there are a number of BBQ restaurants that you can enjoy after the cycling.

It is a good way to spend a relaxing day.

Rustic park with nice coastal views
Nov 2017 • Couples
We came to this attraction because an Insight guide had described the bus ride from Tai Po to Tai Mei Tuk as being scenic. The ride did indeed provide quite nice views but this is not the most scenic bus ride in Hong Kong - there are many other rides with superior views. This is a seaside park with barbecue facilities and some F&B stalls. The environment is serene and rustic and there is a reservoir nearby that one can hike to but we did not have time to do the hike during our short visit.
