The area
Neighborhood: Wan Chai / Causeway Bay
Wan Chai and Causeway Bay are the retail centers of Hong Kong Island. Filled with shops, malls and restaurants, both areas are bustling with people – tourists and locals alike. Causeway Bay has one of the highest rents on the planet, and is a bit more polished and modern than its Wan Chai counterpart. Beneath the surface there is more than meets the eye – find boutique stores in the above ground floors of buildings and wander into side streets to find interesting restaurants and shops tucked away from the main roads. Wan Chai especially has experienced a modern revival in recent times, with an influx of trendy restaurants and bars around the Star Street area. In addition, both areas contain many of Hong Kong’s iconic tourist attractions worthy of your visit.

Pro Tip: Book a Plateau guestroom for the ultimate "Spa Getaway"
May 2021
My husband and I stayed in one of the Plateau guestrooms for 2 nights. Originally we were only going to do 1 spa treatment during our stay, but we had such a wonderful couples massage that we each booked treatments the following morning!

Excellent selection of essential oils and very relaxed masseuses who made us feel comfortable and not rushed - this is key as we've found other high-end spas to rush us out of the rooms following the treatment. Not here! They let you hang out in the rooms, enjoying tea and a small fruit cup. Wonderful attention to detail!

Regarding the guestrooms - we've basically been "stuck" in Hong Kong now for over a year and have done a lot of staycations all over HK. This is my favorite! The Plateau guestroom is like an escape to Japan - with a huge "onsen" style bath tub in the room. Staying on the Plateau spa floor was super lovely and zen. Easy access to the pool and outdoor terrace. Extremely quiet floor. Highly recommend if you're in the mood for a zen-weekend-getaway!

Comfortable massage but facilities are lacking
Nov 2020 • Friends
As the Plateau Spa has won international rewards before, I had high hopes for the treatment. The massage itself was undeniably comfortable - we tried the signature plateau massage which began with a few minutes (or less) using a hot stone - and the therapists were constantly asking for our feelings, but the whole spa floor was a bit aged and the noise arising from the renovation works (probably the new MTR station being constructed nearby) was a bit annoying. The therapists are friendly and polite, making sure we feel welcomed. The 90-minute spa passed in the blink of an eye and I even thought that we were there for only an hour! Hot tea and fruits were served afterwards.

Even so, it disappointed us when we were told that we could only stay in the treatment room for 15 minutes before we go. The spa didn’t seem busy at all. As a luxury hotel, more time or a relaxation lounge could be arranged for guests. The steam room was closed due to COVID, but it is merely a tiny one shared with pool/hotel users. That’s why we didn’t consider the whole experience as luxury as imagined.

Booking was smooth, but the timeslots were a bit full. Had to reserve two weeks in advance. If you would like to enjoy the pool/gym of the hotel, another $800 has to be paid or you could find a treatment that includes the Plateau Pass.

Best spa in HK...

...that we’ve been to yet. The dressing room part made us feel like we were celebrities and the couples massage room was massive. And most importantly, the massage was excellent. Hefty discount with a (free) Hyatt World membership too!

Lacking in luxury and attention to detail
Jan 2019 • Couples
I got a 60-minute Swedish massage here during a week-long stay at the hotel. Briefly, the room was way too cold and all the masseuse did was add blankets on top of me, twice. I guess he could not adjust the heat in the room. The massage itself was not great and lacked flow and order, while he did focus on the areas I said were achy and avoided my neck as requested, he also did not get to my shoulders or legs adequately and the massage had no therapeutic value. I wanted to take a sauna after as I was cold but the only male sauna was in the utilitarian, public locker-room by the pool (not in the spa). The massage room had a shower so I used that but it was very basic hand shower only. The spa has no elements of luxury or attention to detail. I filled out a form asking about my experience, I mentioned the above but never got any feedback. I guess they really don't care. I suggest avoiding this spa.

Dear K8817, Thank you for your visit to Plateau. I sincerely extend my apologies for failing to provide you the true Plateau experience. We understand your disappointment on this service shortfall and lack of follow-up thereafter. We are appreciative of your constructive feedback as it is only through concerned individuals like yourself that we are able to monitor and improve our service level. In light of your feedback, we were happy to modify the spa charges upon check out. Please also rest assured that the issues mentioned have been brought to spa management’s attention and we will certainly look into the room temperature level and facility design for the next renovation project. We appreciate your continued support of Hyatt and we look forward to welcoming you once again to Plateau Spa in the nearest future. Yours Sincerely Priya Sharma Team Leader - Plateau Spa

Woah!! A true Spa Experience!
Dec 2017 • Business
It has been a stressful year and just wanted to pamper myself & rejuvenate, before the turn of the year...

Booked for a Hong Kong Massage 90 minutes - very much like a sports massage, pretty strong and no oils.

The masseur - Sabine introduced the entire concept , the spa room interiors, asked me how much I pressure I am okay with etc. and then the amazing journey started...

I liked it hard and she was brilliant with her strokes & massage. Then, when she reached my right shoulder wing , there was a serious amount of pain and the masseur immediately identified this and softly told me there seems be a major knot in this area. She just started working on it passionately and totally involved. And my word.....it was excruciatingly painful initially, but with her continued pressure and strokes, the pain almost vanished and my shoulders became completely relaxed!! A true WOW!!

Given the amazing experience, I decided to go for another Experience the next day with the same masseur. This time a Swedish massage - soft & easy. Absolutely wonderful indeed.

The oils used for the Swedish massage was very good and the ambience , the music, the room temperature was all brilliant. Extremely well trained personnel too.

Highly recommended and if you get Ms.Sabrina , go for it! She is Empathetic, passionate, fully involved and wants to achieve the best for you!!

Size does matter
May 2017 • Friends
On a recent visit to Hong Kong I stayed at the Grand Hyatt.
In the morning we hiked the Dragon's Back trail in 1,5 hours instead of the indicated 2,5. Subsequently, I was in urgent need of a massage which Plateau Spa was able to offer me within 20 minutes of returning to the hotel thanks to its many treatment rooms and staff.
I enjoyed a 60 minute Hong Kong Signature massage followed by a 60 minute salt scrub.
With that I was ready to head out to dinner and enjoy the evening.

Luxury Experience - Plateau Spa and Massage
Apr 2017 • Solo
As a person who like massage very much, I have tried twice plateau massage in Plateau SPA, it was a luxury experience to spoil ourselves after tight schedule working our. Took 90 minutes of massage enjoy a quite strong and long pressure, brings a memorable relaxing also there is no pain after.

After treatment, we could enjoy the room for 15 / 20 minutes and serve with tea (flowers taste) and fruit.

The room has a pleasant design, it is not really unique but also not so common.

I am only a visitor, not a hotel guest.

Wonderful enviroment
Dec 2016 • Couples
What a beautiful well appointed area.

Very quiet and clean.

Staff wonderful.

Green tea and fruit at the end of every treatment.

We used the facility 4 times in 8 days so that's a positive vote under any circumstances.

I recommend this spa with absolute confidence.

Very Relaxing Massage But...
Jul 2016 • Couples
We booked a couple's massage and enjoyed a very relaxing Plateau massage and it was really good. However, just suprised that they never mention the additional charges... You know what we mean... we are not complaining but just an advise, it's better that you let all guests know. We were asking to access the pool as well but we were turned down as reception claimed its busy. Not what we expect as W hotel and others includes access to the pool.
