The area
Neighborhood: Sheung Wan
Unlike most of Hong Kong’s other popular districts, Sheung Wan welcomes wanderers with an easy-going, relaxed atmosphere. Art galleries are plentiful and boutique cafés are tucked away in every side street in the sub district known as “PoHo.” Browse through the vintage clothing and handmade leather goods stores – it’s no surprise fashionistas flock to this area. History enthusiasts will be rewarded with sites of beautiful architecture, reflecting Sheung Wan’s past as one of the earliest settlements by British forces. As night falls, the entertainment scene reveals itself to be just as laid back with its private kitchens, speakeasies and underground bars dotted throughout the area. When in Sheung Wan, everyday feels like the weekend.

I went to The Mixing Bowl with a group of friends for a private party. We made pizza and chocolate lava cake. My experience exceeded my expectations. The host and owner, Kyle, is so knowledgeable and an excellent instructor. We all had a fabulous time and I was amazed at how good the pizzas and cake were! The best pizza I’ve had in HK...and I made it! Amazing. After this class, I am confident I can replicate the recipe at home. Thanks Kyle! That was a blast!

Kyle is clearly an amazing chef, but more importantly, an amazing teacher and host. My wife and I attended a class as a birthday gift and learned to make homemade pasta + a delicious chocolate soufflé. Kyle made the class engaging and an education far beyond the “steps”, describing the history and variants of the techniques. It was fun, relaxed and we enjoyed a delicious meal with the rest of the class in the beautifully designed dining room afterwards. This is our third class and we’d absolutely recommend it for an evening out. Thank you Kyle!

Was a great experience in Hong Kong. Would recommend to anyone and will definitely be back! We did the 'Traditional Hong Kong' course, where you make egg tarts, pineapple buns and sausage rolls.

The course instructor was fantastic. Very knowledgable, fun and engaging.

Although HK is a food paradise, it just doesnt offer calories packed & scrumptious sugary treats such as Cinnabon, Krispy Kreme, etc.. Well last weekend I began hunting for Cinnabon / cinnamon roll in HK and had found that this little cafe that serves them.

It is situated near Po Hing Fong in Central, which requires roughly 10 min walk uphill from mtr station. Its a very quiet cafe and with a minimalist decor, perfect for chilling and catching up with frds or just to have some me time on a weekend afternoon. We ordered a bottled lychee juice, a cappuccino, and most importantly the Cinnabon. The Alain Milliat juice was quite sweet and condensed so it was good that they offered some ice to thin it out. As for the main reason I was here, I'd have to say that it did not quite live up to my expectation as the ones they served here is not as fluffy and "cinnamony" as the ones I used to get in Canada which was very soft and oozing with icing. My bf who doesnt have a huge sweet tooth shared this with me and he actually preferred this version so its definitely a personal preference :) I may come back again to try their signature scones next time!

The search for my dream cinnamon roll in HK continues and if anyone has any recommentdation pls let me know!!!!

A tremendously fun baking experience. Took my 11 year old daughter to the French pastries class. As new bakers, we both had a lot of fun and ended up making some amazingly delicious (and pretty) desserts. Knowledgeable and accommodating staff, well-thought out recipes, and a cozy, intimate space as well.
The girls downstairs in the café could be a bit friendlier, but that really didn't have much bearing on the class, which was really well done. Highly recommended.

I booked a Hong Kong traditional snacks baking class for a friend's birthday, and we were both very impressed with the class - our baked goods a testament to its success.

Kyle gave easy to follow instructions and was very knowledgeable in explaining the science behind what we were doing as well as practical tips in implementing various techniques to come up with the best results. We're both really looking forward to joining more in the future!

Joined the baking class for strawberry tart and the experience was incredible. The guidance all so gentle, warm and supportive. Felt so cheerful to handle all the steps till the last. Can’t help to share this happiness!!

I just moved to Hong Kong and my best friend bought me a cooking class experience with my beau for my birthday. It was so much fun, Kyle was very informative not only on processes but also offered a more thorough understanding of the "whys" involved with cooking.

The location was modern, wide open, and beautifully decorated. It was a cozy, comfortable, and a very pleasant experience. Kyle offered solutions to cooking the same way at home, and I would highly recommend this class to even the experienced cook looking to have new perspectives and methods for cooking.

Thank you to the MIxing Bowl for such a great experience!

I have been to two classes here (Cinnamon Buns & Apple Pie). Both Victor & Kyle are phenomenal teachers who really know what they are doing. They create a great atmosphere for everyone to learn. And you come away from the class with PLENTY of baked goods. If you were to buy the same amount of baked goods from their store you would probably come close to the cost of the class. That means that the classes are excellent value!

But what impressed me the most is their ability to provide a challenge for everyone. For example in the Apple Pie class, my wife has never baked a pie but I have made enough to consider myself decent. Both of us came away from the lesson with new knowledge & skills. And another friend of mine whom I would consider to be an excellent home cook & baker loved the Chinese baking class. If Victor could teach her something, I'm convinced that there's nobody that would find the class a waste of time.

I really can't write a glowing enough review. It's a great experience for anyone, if you are just looking for a fun activity to do by yourself, with a partner, or especially with a family. Tourists & locals alike will enjoy their time here.

I hope you attend their classes to support their business! Even though I would be bummed if they get super popular and their classes become hard to reserve a spot, I wouldn't mind. Victor & Kyle deserve it!

I came here for the Intro to Bread Making course. Bread making has always baffled me despite a lot of reading and research, and many (failed) attempts. Victor broke it down and showed us a few very key tips which I have since incorporated at home and am happy to say, they work outside the cooking class! The studio is warm and feels like you are at a friend's kitchen cooking together. They really are here to show you how to do it and do it well, no holds barred. I highly recommend classes at The Mixing Bowl.
