About
From the stunning skyline to the spectacle of Lan Kwai Fong, Hong Kong is full of world-class sights for travellers to see. But if you’re looking for fun – to add a little ‘do’ to your ‘see’ – then look no further than Happy Wednesday at Happy Valley Racecourse, the city’s trendiest headquarters for mouth-watering food, thirst-quenching beverages and thrilling excitement both on and off the track. There’s nothing quite like a night at the races in Hong Kong! Week in and week out, Happy Wednesday fans are treated to a full sensory experience, pairing the pulse-pumping entertainment of jousting jockeys with a weekly theme that is integrated into everything from live bands and interactive games to on-course decorations and a delicious, reasonably priced trackside menu. Come in the fall and you’ll be treated to refreshing pints and a festive bratwurst for Oktoberfest – the largest outdoor beer festival in Hong Kong. Drop in during May, however, and it’s all ratatouille and brie, as Happy Wednesday hosts the hugely popular French Nights. It’s an extravaganza that’s fit for Asia’s world city, putting an international twist on a sport that has a rich heritage and cultural tradition for the city’s people. There’s simply nowhere else in the world where you can experience such a seamless blend of racing and lifestyle in one event. Whether you’re a local, an expat, or just visiting Hong Kong, there’s truly something for everyone at Happy Wednesday!

The area
Neighborhood: Wan Chai / Causeway Bay
Wan Chai and Causeway Bay are the retail centers of Hong Kong Island. Filled with shops, malls and restaurants, both areas are bustling with people – tourists and locals alike. Causeway Bay has one of the highest rents on the planet, and is a bit more polished and modern than its Wan Chai counterpart. Beneath the surface there is more than meets the eye – find boutique stores in the above ground floors of buildings and wander into side streets to find interesting restaurants and shops tucked away from the main roads. Wan Chai especially has experienced a modern revival in recent times, with an influx of trendy restaurants and bars around the Star Street area. In addition, both areas contain many of Hong Kong’s iconic tourist attractions worthy of your visit.

the best of races in hong kong
Jul 2021
The HKJC Happy Valley Race course is one in town unlike Shatin Racecourse which is a bit far off from the central district. The happy valley race course is a very famous place for night races where a lot of people enjoy themselves at the public stand eating drinking and even dancing at times.. the restaurants for Owners as well as Members are quite a few however they i would advise anyone with a special food diet to try and contact the restaurant in advance to arrange for your own special dishes in advance as people whom are Vegan / Vegetarian / NON Beef & NON Pork eaters at times have load of problems to eat at the restaurants when there are races that day.

Great Running Track
Sep 2020
I do not come here for the races anymore. I come here to run on the track. A nice running track in Happy Valley surrounding the race course. Once around is approximately 1.35km.

Depending on the weather and the pollution levels, it is a really nice place for a run with different sceneries during the run.

A day at the races
Jul 2019
The experience at Happy Valley racecourse was amazing.
Happy Valley is on the Hong Kong side hence the vibes are better with more expats.
We went on a Wednesday to Adrenaline on a normal racing day which costs HK$xxx per person including a buffet dinner and 1 adrenaline signature drink.
As an expat, the buffet was pleasing because they had quite a lot of Tex-mex food such as cajun prawns, Southern fried chicken drumsticks, mac n cheese and chili con carne.

Simply fantastic

One off the bucket list. Fantastic night.

I paid £39 for hospitality at Adrenaline and great value. One drink and an all you can eat buffet, beer was £7 a bottle do not to bad for Hong Kong.

A live band between races made it more special. I'd highly recommend

And They're Off
May 2019 • Couples
Even pouring rain would not dampen my enthusiasm.

Ok, I could have done without walking through the underground walkways to get to the track under the nearby streets and seeing dozens of homeless in dirty conditions, but hey, I have that in my own home city...

We stayed for the first 5 of 8 of the Wednesday evening races, watching something on the order of $250 million being bet. It was a terrible evening and we were drenched enough by the 5th race. But, I did get a sense of what it could have been like with a full house of over 50,000 rabid betters.

Surrounded by the soaring HK skyline, this was a dynamic activity that I looked forward to and left satisfied with having visited.

Race Night!
Jan 2020 • Couples
Even if you are not in to Horse racing you must visit happy Valley on a Wednesday night. The location is breathtaking easy to get to, super well organised, not expensive in fact tourists get in free when they show ID. One of the highlights of any trip to Hong Kong.
