From the stunning skyline to the spectacle of Lan Kwai Fong, Hong Kong is full of world-class sights for travellers to see. But if you’re looking for fun – to add a little ‘do’ to your ‘see’ – then look no further than Happy Wednesday at Happy Valley Racecourse, the city’s trendiest headquarters for mouth-watering food, thirst-quenching beverages and thrilling excitement both on and off the track. There’s nothing quite like a night at the races in Hong Kong! Week in and week out, Happy Wednesday fans are treated to a full sensory experience, pairing the pulse-pumping entertainment of jousting jockeys with a weekly theme that is integrated into everything from live bands and interactive games to on-course decorations and a delicious, reasonably priced trackside menu. Come in the fall and you’ll be treated to refreshing pints and a festive bratwurst for Oktoberfest – the largest outdoor beer festival in Hong Kong. Drop in during May, however, and it’s all ratatouille and brie, as Happy Wednesday hosts the hugely popular French Nights. It’s an extravaganza that’s fit for Asia’s world city, putting an international twist on a sport that has a rich heritage and cultural tradition for the city’s people. There’s simply nowhere else in the world where you can experience such a seamless blend of racing and lifestyle in one event. Top ways to experience Happy Valley Racecourse and nearby attractions

The area
Neighborhood: Wan Chai / Causeway Bay
Wan Chai and Causeway Bay are the retail centers of Hong Kong Island. Filled with shops, malls and restaurants, both areas are bustling with people – tourists and locals alike. Causeway Bay has one of the highest rents on the planet, and is a bit more polished and modern than its Wan Chai counterpart. Beneath the surface there is more than meets the eye – find boutique stores in the above ground floors of buildings and wander into side streets to find interesting restaurants and shops tucked away from the main roads. Wan Chai especially has experienced a modern revival in recent times, with an influx of trendy restaurants and bars around the Star Street area. In addition, both areas contain many of Hong Kong’s iconic tourist attractions worthy of your visit.

Going horse racing as a visitor is a must do in Hong Kong. As a tourist with a foreign passport, you can obtain a guest pass to the members area. To be a member of the Hong Kong Jockey Club is very prestigious so you will be able to rub elbows with the rich and famous!

The advantage of being in the member areas is that it is not as crowded and you will be able to see the horses parade before they go on the track. I believe the guest pass is around HK$190 which is around CDN$30 but well worth it. You don't have to bet so with a beer and hotdog, it is not an expensive night.

Horse racing is pretty big thing in Hong Kong but the atmosphere at Happy Valley is much more social. Seems like a lot to see and lots of tourists so it is quite fun.

For my review of what is like in the general area and the member area, see my full review on my Youtube channel

Come and feel the relax yourself. You don’t need to be there to gamble, get a cold beer, liquor or McDonald. Immerse in the crowd and join in the fun.

Enjoying a race in Hong Kong's first racecourse has become a key part of any itineraries in the city. At the center of Hong Kong, this place is a well-maintained venue for exciting matches. Definitely a must for tourists.

Every Wednesday races at Happy Valley. Within the high rises of Hong Kong one of the oldest racetracks of the world and still vivid and enormous popular. Gotta go there to feel how important the races are. Just go there an watch the first two races the people at the racetrack and than take a gamble.

Happy Valley is a must see when in action.

A night at the races in Happy Valley is affordable and really fun but be sure to spend a little time working out in advance how to place a bet ... and buy yourself the South China Morning Post so you can pretend to be an expert.

A fantastic evening spent here. We had a lovely night full of excitement and fun. We even had a few winners when we were here. The views of the city are amazing and it is surreal to see the racecourse and the backdrop of all the highrise buildings in Hong Kong. A must see for visitors ....loved it!
