The area
Neighborhood: Jordan / Yau Ma Tei
The Jordan and Yau Ma Tei neighborhood is where you will find some of the more authentic areas of Hong Kong. Not as glamorous or busy as its neighbors Mong Kok to the north or Tsim Sha Tsui to the south, Yau Ma Tei is often mistakenly overlooked by visitors on their trips to Hong Kong. Exploring parts of this area makes you feel like you’ve been transported back in time. A large part of the neighborhood draws from the rich history of Temple Street, stretching from Jordan to Yau Ma Tei, where a mix of dai pai dongs (outdoor restaurants), market stalls, fortune tellers and old karaoke bars bring out the history and culture of the area. The neighborhood is a showcase of diversity – different ethnicities, cultures, and a mix of old and new.

If you have the time, even if you are not inclined towards cricket, a visit to the Kowloon Cricket Club is worthwhile.

Take the time to wander around, read, see and experience the impact the British have had on Hong Kong through this place.

I was fortunate to look like the typical dumb tourist wandering around when I went there in August of last year. A past President of the club noticed me looking interested, and was kind enough to offer me a personal guided tour of the whole place. I cannot do justice to the level of insightful information he had locked away in his head.

I recommend the food on offer, I recommend going when there is a game on (if possible), and I thoroughly recommend walking around the bar and looking at the photos on the wall.

One thing to be aware of is that they had a weird way of paying for drinks at the bar. At reception you bought coupons up to whatever value you thought you needed, instead of paying cash at the bar. If you ran out of coupons, off again to reception you went. Not sure if this system is still in vouge, but it was last year.

I spent the best part of half a day there just soaking in the weird scene of a cricket ground, in the middle of Hong Kong, with huge skyscrapers all around you. Unique to say the least.

Their webpage is reasonably kept up to date, and you should check it out before going to see if anything is on. www.kcc.org.hk

Make the effort to go to this place when in Hong Kong.

DO NOT confuse this place with the Hong Kong Cricket Club which does not have the history attached to it anymore since it was relocated some years ago for property development reasons. Plus the HKCC is in the middle of nowhere now, and difficult to get to.

We went there for annual dinner since my boss is one of the members. We had been given 6 big round tables outside the coffee shop, facing the cricket ball field which made the environment more relaxing and fresh. We ordered the whole tables of food which were about 15-20 different dishes. Their menus had lots of varieties ranging from Indian to Asian.
I tried the lamb chops in Australian promotion which were done great, meat was tender and the smell of sheep was not strong which is suitable for ppl who doesn't like too strong smell.
Also the Nachos were nice too, crispy and topped with much cheeses and mushrooms. Overall the food were substantial with good price.
Booking in advance is recommended especially on Fri night and weekend.

I was a guest in the downstairs dining room for dinner last week. Ambiance, service, menu selection (we enjoyed Chinese/Asian cuisine for the evening), and solid Australian wines kept the evening humming. Its a largish room, but intimate seating is possible around the edges, and in fine weather the outdoors beckons. I would think this a solid venue for large banquet needs, but I found it particularly inviting for intimate conversation over two unhurried hours. Just 200 meters from the Jordan MTR, so getting here would be no problem. But make sure you have an "in" to visit (this is a member's club, remember): attend with a friend who is a member, on recommendation, or a polite request to try the dining facilities to the folks at the entrance.

The Kowloon Cricket Cub (KCC) is located along Cox's Road in Jordan. It was established in 1904 while the original club house was built in 1908. The building you see today was constructed in the early 1930s and has Art Deco and Modern features. It is a nice facade worth a look-see if and when passing by.

As this is a members only organisation to the only way to see and experience the interior, grounds, facilities and restaurants is by invitation or along with a member of the KCC.

Close to Eaton Hotel and Nathan Road. Many famous cricketers have played here. A unique cricket ground, setting and a genuine slice of old colonial Britain in Hong Kong. Friendly staff. Meals can be a little pricey.

Our Chinese host dined us royally at a special dinner party at the Cricket Club. The main dishes were Peking Duck and Beggar's Chicken, both prepared table side. The other dishes were wonderful too. An unforgettable evening. WOW!

Been here many times, and glad to see it remains a great colonial club with that friendly club atmosphere were people have time to say Hi and look at each other, unlike other clubs where people just ignore you. Staff are friendly, attentive and patient with fussy members. Good selection of typical colonial food and drinks, tasty and vey good value for money. Magnificent views of the cricket pitch amidst a concrete jungle.

Visited the Kowloon Cricket Club (KCC) with friends in March 2017. Have visited the KCC several times over the years.

KCC harks back to the colonial past and is a haven from the bustling Nathan Road and Kowloon in general.

The Boundary Cafe is a gem. Service second to none. A wide range of dishes and selection of wines. A perfect way to relax sipping on a cold glass of beer after a busy day of shopping. And on our visit a cricket match was underway which just added to the atmosphere.

Prices are very reasonable but remember to take cash with you as they do not have credit card facilities. As a visitor you have to pay 10 HKD and then purchase credit on a temporary KCC visitors card. You use that card for all purchases and you can top it up at the shop with cash. I forgot to take cash with me on our visit and had to walk about 15 minutes to Nathan Road to use an ATM.

The bar was being refurbished when we visited but have been there many times in the past. A lovely, genteel area to relax. Is hard to believe you are just a stone's throw away from the frenetic, bustling Hong Kong.

The KCC is a private club strictly for members only. They also have extensive agreements in place with reciprocal clubs so check before you leave home if your club is one.

Well worth a visit.

The Cricket club is an oasis of calm amid bustling Kowloon. Quiet enough to hear the sounds of leather on willow. The building is colonial in appearance, open to members only. Inside everything is within period in the entrance hall with the resteraunts more modern, spacious and light. Our Party was held in the Pavilion resteraunt, the buffet was
amazing encompassing everything from English roast beef to Cantonese food via Indian cuisine. There is an open air swimming pool and parking for members within the compound. Non members can reserve a space. A thoroughly enjoyable occasion in very pleasant surroundings.
