RSC's Henry IV at the Lyric Theater

Saw the latest RSC version of the history plays here last March. It's a well-managed professional theater that can seat around 1,000 viewers. Easy to find in Wan Chai.

An excellent show for the young and old. Lots of fun with dancing and singing. The British jokes were super. Area was easily accessible by trains. They also have a car park there.

I've been to see The Sound of Music here last month, the main theatre here call Lyric Theatre is a medium size theatre. The auditorium size is really great for play musical or event dance show. Though the place is really nice but the access is a bit difficult to access from the train. It is about 10-15 minutes walk... More

We went to watch 'The Sound of Music' musical this afternoon. The show itself was pleasant but the facility could do with some simple renovations. The carpets on the stairs were so threadbare that most were covered in what looked like packaging tape! And the flooring on the first level was uneven. My strongest criticism is the lack of communication... More

The 43rd Hong Kong Arts Festival featured a number of international performances at the HKAPA venues in Wan Chai again this year, several which we very much enjoyed here. We very much enjoyed the Dublin based Gate Theatre's performance of Jane Austin's Pride and Prejudge. This was a lovely evening, one that had us longing for more regular opportunity to... More

We recently attended a performance by the London based 'Shakespeare's Globe Theatre company at the HKAPA Lyric Theatre and very much enjoyed their production of 'A Mid Summer Night's Dream'. Shakespeare's Globe Theatre is a world renowned group company who usually perform out of the iconic Globe Theatre on the shores of Southwark in London. We have had the pleasure... More

My Wife and I went to the Lyric for the first time to see the Bootleg Beatles, After driving in from China on a Friday night I did however under estimate the traffic in HK adding a further 1 hour to cross from TST to Wanchai making the experience a little stressful. Would certainly suggest getting to Wanchai a lot... More

The Hong Kong Academy of Performing Arts (HKAPA) houses a half dozen relatively small stages, concert hall and auditoriums used for theatre, symphony and other performing arts throughout the year. Quite often traveling companies from London, USA, Australia, etc... will visit Hong Kong and perform here at the HKAPA. Recently we watched the London based production - Agatha Christie's 'The... Actually, I planned a visit to Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts at home, when after booking a hotel I was looking through the What’s on list. I knew that within the program of Hong Kong Arts Festival there was a performance of Oscar Wilde’s “The Importance of Being Earnest” at the time of our stay. So, the 1st thing... More

We occasionally attend performances at the Lyric theater at the Hong Kong Academy of Performing Arts (HKAPA) in Wan Chai. The Lyric theater is a decent little theater with good acoustics because of the small and compact seating. There are three levels of seating and most seats are comfortable enough for shows. The HKAPA have local performances quite regularly and... More

Staying in Wan Chai / Causeway Bay

Neighborhood Profile
Wan Chai / Causeway Bay
Wan Chai and Causeway Bay are the retail centers of Hong Kong Island. Filled with shops, malls and restaurants, both areas are bustling with people – tourists and locals alike. Causeway Bay has one of the highest rents on the planet, and is a bit more polished and modern than its Wan Chai counterpart. Beneath the surface there is more than meets the eye – find boutique stores in the above ground floors of buildings and wander into side streets to find interesting restaurants and shops tucked away from the main roads. Wan Chai especially has experienced a modern revival in recent times, with an influx of trendy restaurants and bars around the Star Street area. In addition, both areas contain many of Hong Kong’s iconic tourist attractions worthy of your visit.
