The area
Neighborhood: Sheung Wan
Unlike most of Hong Kong’s other popular districts, Sheung Wan welcomes wanderers with an easy-going, relaxed atmosphere. Art galleries are plentiful and boutique cafés are tucked away in every side street in the sub district known as “PoHo.” Browse through the vintage clothing and handmade leather goods stores – it’s no surprise fashionistas flock to this area. History enthusiasts will be rewarded with sites of beautiful architecture, reflecting Sheung Wan’s past as one of the earliest settlements by British forces. As night falls, the entertainment scene reveals itself to be just as laid back with its private kitchens, speakeasies and underground bars dotted throughout the area. When in Sheung Wan, everyday feels like the weekend.

TurboJet is a convenient, efficient way to travel from Hong Kong to Macau. However there is room for improvements.
Dec 2019
From 28 December 2019 to 14 January 2020 my wife and I organised an interesting 18 day South East Asian adventure to celebrate our 40th wedding anniversary visiting Hong Kong, Macau, Taiwan, Laos and Singapore.

Two nights were spent in Hong Kong and two nights In Macau and we travelled to Macau from Hong Kong on the fast TurboJet Hong Kong –Macau Ferry.

We chose to pre-purchase our ferry tickets online from Brisbane through Direct Ferries Limited before our Asia trip commenced. This was an efficient process.

We took the 11.00 am ferry from the ferry terminal at Sheung Wan on Hong Kong Island on 30 December 2019 and reached the Macau Outer Harbour ferry terminal 55 minutes later. The Turbojet catamaran’s exterior is distinctively painted a bright red. The interior resembles the inside of an aircraft. Our reserved seats were on the upper level of the ferry and were reasonably comfortable. They were pink in colour and incorporated a fold up tray table. We were given window seats next to quite good, large viewing windows.

The directional signage at the Hong Kong Terminal at times was found wanting so we relied on asking the staff for assistance. We have to say that some of the staff here were rather indifferent to us. They were only willing; it seemed, to be as helpful as they felt they needed to be. Public relations could be greatly improved here.

Because we were having two nights in Macau we checked in our main luggage. However we had our usual airport hand luggage which we took on board. My wife had a backpack which she was allowed to take with her to her seat. However, I had a conventional correct size carry on luggage case which the staff insisted had to be left in a dedicated but exposed area downstairs, well away from my seat and out of my sight. There appeared to be no staff member closely guarding all these cases raising questions about the possibility of compromising luggage security. I personally found this situation disconcerting. So, my advice to travellers who are planning a trip which includes an overnight stay in Macau and they plan to get to Macau by ferry, is to choose a backpack as their airport carry on luggage .

The actual ferry ride was fast and efficient and the ride was quite smooth throughout. To us it was just a fast sea travel experience with little outstanding scenery on the journey. The service at the Macau Terminal on our arrival was friendlier than our experience at the Hong Kong Terminal.

Taking the ferry with TurboJet is a convenient, efficient way to travel from Hong Kong to Macau. However, we felt there is room for improvements.

Good service

Went to Macau for a day trip. Easy purchasing tickets. Bought fixed time tickets but able to catch earlier boat home without any fuss. Might not be as easy during busy periods though.

Worst service ever
Jan 2020 • Friends
We checked in from Macau at 8pm and we were waiting in standby lanes for 2 hours. The staff is rude to the bone and barely speak English.
If you need to use this horrible company, buy fixed time and day to have reserved seats and avoid standby process.

Best why to travel to Macau for a one day trip from Hong Kong and back from Macau. Comfortable and very relaxing trip both ways.

Good Experience
Dec 2019
We used the Turbojet services roundtrip between Hong Kong and Macau - excellent service and a fun and exciting experience. Both ways the trips were on time and comfortable with very nice service in the terminals and onboard. We used Super Class which provided more comfortable seating (and it was not full so room to spread out) and food service - we were more than satisfied. Premier Grand Class is available on some departures but probably not worth the money for the hour journey.

A jetfoil ride is an essential part of a day trip to Macau from Hong Kong!

Note that complimentary shuttle buses are available to all passengers to/from the Macau ferry terminal to all major hotel-casinos.

Don't waste your money on the Premier Grand Class
Nov 2019
I took Economy Service from HK to Macau then Premier Grand service back from Macau to HK. Easy way to get between both cities.
Essentially the same service, but cost much more in PG.
An advertised Premier Grand waiting lounge with complimentary drinks and snacks didn't exist, at the least the staff at the Turbojet sales/ticket counter and check in had no idea what I was talking about. Even after I showed them the Turbojet website, but they couldn't provide an answer. Shuffled into Economy waiting area after receiving seat assignment in PG cabin. BTW, PG cabin was empty, but still assigned seat in the back-middle row...of an entirely empty cabin.
Food offered was so-so, could order the same in Economy much cheaper.
Service slow and nothing to write home about. By the time the food came to my seat, order was wrong, but at that point I waited too long to send it back, went with the flow. Bowl of rice and shrimp, my feeling was that is all they had to offer. Drinks were okay.
Overall nothing special except the higher price.
Next time I'll go Economy.

Fast route to Macau
Oct 2019
TurboJet offers fast and frequent ferries to and from Macau. The first time we planned to go, we forgot our passports. We returned the next day though. My mum was really sick on the journey to Macau, she doesn't normally get motion sick but the ride was a little bumpy. If you get motion sickness, make sure to take some tablets beforehand. The way back she was fine though! Seats on the way there were more comfortable than on the way back.

The ride itself did not take long and was seated very comfortably. Wifi was available so I was able to take a peek of the places I need to visit. The staff were very polite and the overall experience was really good.

Waited for 1.5 hours to get back to HK. All ferries were full. To be certain to get on the next they wanted 180 MOP each person. Double price!! Terrible service, and a system that doesnt work.
