The area
Neighborhood: Sheung Wan
Unlike most of Hong Kong’s other popular districts, Sheung Wan welcomes wanderers with an easy-going, relaxed atmosphere. Art galleries are plentiful and boutique cafés are tucked away in every side street in the sub district known as “PoHo.” Browse through the vintage clothing and handmade leather goods stores – it’s no surprise fashionistas flock to this area. History enthusiasts will be rewarded with sites of beautiful architecture, reflecting Sheung Wan’s past as one of the earliest settlements by British forces. As night falls, the entertainment scene reveals itself to be just as laid back with its private kitchens, speakeasies and underground bars dotted throughout the area. When in Sheung Wan, everyday feels like the weekend.
How to get there
  • Sheung Wan • 3 min walk
  • Hong Kong • 9 min walk

Great experience with Cotai Water Jet
Nov 2019
We had a great experience with Cotai Water Jet. We brought first class tickets and had a pleasant trip from Macau to Hong Kong. The boat ride was generally smooth and quiet. Enjoyed the experience and would do the waterjet again rather than the bus as there were not that many people and the boarding and disembarking process was smooth.

Cotai Water Jet from Hong Kong Island to and Macau Taipa Ferry Terminal
Dec 2019
Easy to reach Shun Tank centre and collect the boarding passes from the counter. Checking-in has been quick, where they assign you the seats. Takes exactly one hour to reach Macau. It was kind of rough weather that day, and had experienced some disturbances and seasickness feelings that day though.Otherwise, it was smooth and awesome.

Huge efficient ferry terminal
Nov 2019 • Business
The ferry terminal large and modern. When I was there on a Sunday is largely empty and getting to my ferry was a breeze.

Convenient way to travel to Macau Casinos
Oct 2019
We planned a quick day trip to Macau from Hong Kong & found the Cotai Water Jet to be very convenient.

Since we were tourists, unfamiliar with the different ferry options, we inquired with our hotel concierge. If you are visiting the major casinos in Macau (ie, Venetian, Parisian, Four Seasons, Conrad, Studio City & the Galaxy Complex) this ferry drops you off the closest to these casinos & hotels, known as the Cotai Strip. If you are traveling to the historic & less touristy parts of Macau, there might be better drop off locations.

We emailed our hotel concierge & they were able to purchase tickets for us. We highly recommend this option since it was very convenient. We booked the First Class cabin which was a cheap upgrade from the Cotai Class Cabin. First class gets you at the top floor of the ferry, and priority embarkation & priority disembarkation. Since first class cabin gets to leave the boat first, we breezed through customs without waiting in line.

In the first class cabin, we got two seats by the window (pictured below). The seats were spacious and comfortable and similar to a first-class domestic flight seat. Before leaving the terminal, we got offered a welcome drink from a menu (beer, bottled water, tea, coffee or juice) and a small pack of nuts. Service was okay, nothing memorable. There is also free wifi onboard which makes the journey much more pleasant.

The sea can become very rough and many passengers got seasick. If you get motion sick, take medication before boarding.

When leaving Macau and returning to Hong Kong, the Cotai Water Jet terminal had a dedicated First Class waiting area (where the Hong Kong Terminal did not). You want to arrive 30-45 minutes before your ferry leaves. We thought security would be similar to airport security & arrived 1.5 hours early & were waiting around for quite a while.

They’re in on a scam
Oct 2019
As the four of us approached the Cotai Water Jet desk (the blue guys), two men with credit card machines in hand approach us and say “ Macau Ferry?” Never having visited the China Ferry Terminal before, it just seemed the way they do it. We bought what we told were round trip tickets although the return trip was into the the Macau Ferry Terminal and not Hong Kong island where we were staying and left from earlier that day. As a result of the earlier protesting/rioting that say the subway was shut down. Luckily the star Ferry was still running and we made it back to Kowloon. I/we blame Cotai Water Jet because
they allow this scam to go on ten feet in front of their counter. During the sale not one employee even gave an odd facial expression to hint we were being scammed. When we questioned the sales desk at the Macau Ferry Terminal they explained the tickets came from a travel agent, not their desk. I highly recommend using another, more honest company.
