Perfectly framed by mountains and surrounded by the beautiful South China Sea, Discovery Bay, a serene resort development on the northeastern coast of Lantau Island, is a peaceful oasis away from hectic Hong Kong. The destination offers a wide selection of dining options and leisure activities. D'Deck, the renowned oceanfront alfresco dining hotspot boasts 20 restaurants with most commanding spectacular views of the sea and Disneyland fireworks. The 400-metre-long beach, hiking and walking trails, waterfront boardwalk, horse-drawn carriage, and the deluxe resort hotel Auberge Discovery Bay Hong Kong, present a total resort experience for leisure and getaway, yet it is just a step away from downtown Central, the Hong Kong International Airport, nearby attractions such as Hong Kong Disneyland, Ngong Ping 360, Po Lin Monastery, Giant Buddha and Wisdom Path. Take the ferry from Central Pier 3, or shuttle bus from the Airport, Tung Chung and Sunny Bay MTR stations.

Visited as the cable car at Ngong Ping was under renovation and the queue for buses to the Buddha and Tai O were over 2 hours long each. Not much here if I'm honest. It's an area dominated by expats driving golf buggies. The beach...More

Discovery Bay is a diverse expat enclave in Hong Kong which is part of the Lantau Island area. This is reachable through one of Central Piers or a hike from Mui Wo (~1-2 hours). The area is very lively during weekends and is a nice...More

Discovery Bay, or simply DB, is a residential enclave whose residents are mostly expats. It was developed since the 80's and is still being developed. Some old areas and facilities do start to show signs of wear and tear. The restaurants near the pier are...More

Not far from the ferry at DB is a footpath that goes high up into the mountains before arriving at Mui Wo. It is extremely challenging due to the high humidity but is well worth it as the effort. The scenery and views are stunning....More

$160 HKD bought 2 adult return tickets, from HK to DB. What a waste of money. Bay is unclean, unpleasant and full of tourists. Stick to old HK instead.

We took the Mui Wo to Discovery Bay trail. I had some difficulties going up and down the trail because I had a pre-existing knee injury but the views at the top are beautiful, make sure you have enough battery in your phone/camera so you...More

This was my first visit to Discovery Bay and a bit of a shock. I imagined it was idyllic but found it sterile in the extreme - plastic, you could be anywhere. So we immediately took to the walk from DB to Mui Wo. It's...More

We enjoyed a lovely meal here - burger top notch and authentic curries! Great service! Always a great Guiness for mid week drinks.

Quiet area on week days where you can pretty much have the beach to yourselves and even strolling around is a bonus. I personally would avoid weekend as too many people for my liking. Many restaurants and bars along the seafront and ferry run every...More
