Large district in East Kowloon
Sep 2021
The Kwun Tong district is in East Kowloon. It is fit between Wong Tai Sin District to the north, Sai Kung District to east, Kowloon City to the west and Victoria Harbour to the south. This was an important industrial area from the 1950's onward. However, that time has come and gone and many of the old factory buildings have been demolished and replaced by residential as well as modern commercial buildings. Yet, this area continues to have quite a bit of Old Hong Kong feel to it in quite a few places. There are quite a few shopping malls, centres and arcades throughout the district, many centred near the MTR Stations including some of the largest malls in East Kowloon like Mega Box (Kowloon Bay) and apm (Kwun Tong). Otherwise, loads of smaller venues ranging from low-rent, low-key arcades to mid-sized and residential shopping centres, again many being within close reach of the MTR Stations that run the the district. There are a handful of hotels in the area but far fewer than what you find in more centrally located areas of the city. Food and dining here is mostly local and casual eateries with some Western places within the malls and other strategic places, like Quayside near the northwest end of the Kwun Tong Promenade. The Kwun Tong Promenade is a nice outdoor, waterfront setting. Otherwise, parks and gardens are a bit sparse as well. There is a nice garden ground at the Carbon Zero Building just north of Mega Box. Other green spaces are located within proximity to residential areas off of the tourist path. While technically not in the Kwun Tong district, the recently opened Sky Garden at the old Kai Tak Airport, just across from the Kwun Tong Promenade, is a worthy place to visit for green and leisure space nearby.

best for really dive down prices
Jan 2019 • Family
This is where pop up stores are located, where prices dive down. Got five pairs of cole haans at 89% off! of course, im a size 13 US so these were probably shoes that wont sell elsewhere in HK. There is a delsey store, a nike, addidas, New balance, lego. For the bargain hunter, this is heaven

Old industrial area in trasformation
Feb 2019 • Family
Kwun Tong is undergoing a shift from old industrial hub to Hong Kong's next financial district. Nothing particularly interesting except vacant industrial buildings and construction sites. Although not a must-see, it is a good place to explore the life of ordinary Hong Kong people.

Away from the happenings
Sep 2018 • Friends
This is still an old industrial area with not many things to do. Mostly Chinese food and restaurants and old buildings
Few fusion food centers and pups available
APM is the only larger scale mall and few more smaller malls
Laguna and Scene-way are the better condos and others are average
Good for ppl who doesn’t want to spend too much on housing

Currently the area is under many projects and in another 2 years this will be another business hub and will be a more middle and up market area to live
New condos and malls are coming up in massive way and for sure its going to be expensive from housing to everything

Towards Kwun Tong market side I happened to see 2 blocks with many prostitute places and massage-centers
For ppl who are desperate 😛😋
Heard it’s cheaper than tst or island side

Worth a visit, save some energy and go there
Jul 2018
Huge crowds of people and stores but def. worth seeing, and also if you get tired from all the walking go to some of the side streets and get some cheap foot massage! There are stores for all kind of budgets. But have patience there is a lot of people.

Old Industrial Area of HK - good for lunch!
Jul 2018 • Solo
While the area of Kwun Tong used to be the old industrial district, it has a certain charm to it. Not worth a visit if you have limited time, but interesting to see.

Tip: do your research and visit one of the factory restaurants for lunch. Lots of the old buildings have great restaurants tucked away that are difficult to find.

For instance: Hamsta Crown Cafe, 1988, Scoool Cafe and more!

Authentic character to me, dirty to some
Jan 2018 • Solo
I understand why some travellers think this neighourhood is dirty and grimey. But I think it is filled with character and history. I waled around the streets and took some great streey style urban photos. Lots of local food options and I bought cosmetic products really cheap in a local shop.

In this area are the famous Rainbow Residences. These are buildings painted in rainbow colours. Famous instagram sight

Has metro stations on the green line

Unattractive neighbourhood
Aug 2016 • Solo
This is not an area for the casual tourist. It's full of characterless office blocks and some incredibly ugly and congested residential areas. You're not missing much if you skip this area.
