In a bustling metropolis like Hong kong, it is often hard to catch a breath and admire the sceneries and appreciate the world. The Ma On Shan Promenade is urban planning at its finest, providing a space for citizens to exercise, socialise, and recharge. The Ma On Shan promenade, albeit with no grand malls and hotels unlike the TST promenade, provides a chance for residents and tourists alike to exercise, socialise, and recharge without distractions or crowds next to the breathtaking view of the Tolo Harbour.

Ma On Shan is a mostly-residential town within the New Territories, so food and leisure will be geared towards the local residents. However, if you’re a tourist, feel free to take a stroll and explore the unseen side of HK with numerous amounts of cha chan teng and Chinese restaurants in the town center area (of course, the Ma On Shan city centre offers a plethora of international dining choices as well).

The Ma On Shan Promenade opened to the public in 2010 and has been a nice area for leisure and recreation since that time. This is a 3.2 kilometre waterfront with very nice views of Tolo Harbour.

The promenade is lined with a jogging path, frequent seating areas and very good landscaping. The trees are now much taller, providing shade on sunny days, making the promenade more appealing to visit year round compared to when it first opened. There is also an attractive Bougainvillea Garden, well tended shrubs, trees and flowering plants throughout.

Along the promenade, you will also find children's playground area, light exercise equipment for the elderly, a tai chi area as well as interesting wind and solar hybrid lamps. You'll catch quite a few joggers and local residents taking strolls with their families as well. There are promenade maps as well as directions to the various facilities every few hundred metres.

This is definitely one of the most pleasant places in Hong Kong. Ma On Shan Promenade offers the freshest air in the city. The view of Tolo Harbour is unparalleled. A stroll along the walkway is an excellent escape from the urban bust.

The Ma On Shan Promenade and its associated Wu Kai Sha beach area is one of the most relaxing places in Hong Kong for enjoying a walk in the late evening. The sunset views are stunning, especially on a sunny day with scattered clouds and with the tides rising. As the tidal waves move ashore, they form parallel line illuminated by the setting sun. I love going there to take sunset photos. Some visitors asked me about the disappearance of the man-made stone "heart" near the pier. It is no longer there, having been removed apparently because some residents complained about it (ie not being part of nature). It is a great pity, as the "heart" has been a hot-spot for lovers to pose for romantic photos.

It took years to finish this beautiful place, next to the ocean and the park. a nice place to do nothing but enjoy the breeze and the silence of the sea. Not far from the metro station, a good place for sea seeing, kids and family.

It is quite a long stretch ;it is up to you how much you want to do. The promenade could take you to the Ma On Shan Park, The Horizon Suites, The beach etc...

What I like about it :

1- you could bring your bicycle; there is a track for bicycle only. There is also a jogging track as well as for walkers.

2-There is exercise corner for pensioners

3- Playgrounds for toddlers as well as older kids

4- Stone floor designs for the purposes of a reflexology

5-Viewing points /deck

6- Easy to get to by Metro/Subway /Bus

7-There are toilets along the promenade but female toilet has no nappy changing facility

8- There was water fountains near all toilets but I wouldn't drink from it unless I have a filter water bottle.

What don't I like

1-As stated on the sign jogging track is meant for jogging only but there was people using it for walking, tots use it for their scooters.Beware

I like this place because it is a prefect place for dating. Safe, beautiful and special are the words come to my mind. The daytime view is quite nice and you frequently can see rainbow. The night view is spectacular and make your dating memorable. You can enjoy the blessing of shooting star if you are really lucky

Especially when you are enjoying the summer breeze. Can easily rent a bike in Shatin or Tai Po. Takes you around 2 hours.

For anyone who wants to take a simple walk (morning to night) or just want to exercise i believe this is the place to be. It's mostly popular along locals, but not too crowded. Avoid midday as it's going to be very hot. Other than that, some more trees or shadow might be a good use:)

With the drop of popularity for Pokemon Go, the walk has certainly been more peaceful and relaxed. Because of a patch, many pokestops have been removed, and so the rewards gained are no longer worth it. During day time it can get a bit to sunny, and sometimes there are mosquitoes, but during the night, it's usually a quiet walk with a nice breeze, looking across the water at the science park and the Tai Po highway. There are paths for walking, jogging and bicycles, so it's certainly worth coming.
