About
Possibly the last Chinese junk to be painstakingly handcrafted in Hong Kong, aqualuna was created using age old designs and traditional materials by an 80 year old local craftsman. Also known as “Cheung Po Tsai” in Cantonese, aqualuna is named after the infamous Cheung Chau island pirate who used to terrorize the waters. Guests are able to absorb Hong Kong’s history while enjoying the intoxicating harbour and skyline views on board. This iconic Hong Kong experience is completed by cocktails and snacks served in the boat’s large cabin and open air decks.

We took the dim sum Sunday boat trip and had a very enjoyable excursion. The food was really delicious; we had pre-ordered vegetarian and it was some of the best veggie dim sum we had on our trip. A good harbour cruise to the east side of Hong Kong island; efficient and personable service, all washed down with a glass of wine. Highly recommended and excellent value.

What an amazing way to welcome in the new year! For a little over $100 Australian for adults and $90 for children it was worth every cent and more. The cruise duration is an hour and a half commencing at 11 or 11:30 pending on your boarding location, North Point public pier or HungHom public pier. Staying at Harbour Grand Kowloon, HungHom public pier is conveniantly located near the hotel, should you choose to indulge in a drink or two or three you don't have far to stumble. A two minute walk where we were kindly greeted by staff who were easily identifiable, here the kids life jackets were put on prior to boarding.
Boarding the second location our concern was the seating but there is great views from every where on the boat. Not long into the cruise our party of six including two kids aged 7 and 11 were ushered to the front of the boat we they thought we would be more comfortable, best seats in the house!
Greeted with your choice of a complimentary beer, wine or soft drink once on board you then have the option to purchase further drinks. Finger food is served through out the cruise, plenty of it and good.
Anchored in what seemed the middle of harbour, you couldn't ask for a better location to experience the fireworks. It was a circus for the senses, lights, cool music, great food, It was an amazing night which we would highly recommend.

The round-trip sail to Stanley and back was well worth the price. One thing to note: the Aqua Luna boards on the Hong Kong side first, then sails over to Kowloon and boards more passengers before starting the trip. This meant that even though we were the first group to board on the Kowloon side, all of the big, comfy seats on the upper deck were taken! If you are taking a one-way tour, it would be worth the time to cross the harbor and board on the HK side to make sure you get to sit where you want.

On the Kowloon side, the Aqua Luna picks up passengers at Pier 1. This is the farthest pier away from the star ferry building underneath the raised walkway. We had to do some hunting to find it.

My Mum and I turned up early at Pier 9 so were at the front of the queue and excited that we would get a good seat for the symphony of lights show. But when the boat arrived lots of people were already on, we headed to the top deck and the only seats left were in the middle of the boat so if we sat down, we had a view of the back of people's heads. During the light show we had to stand to enjoy it properly. Really they should have reduced price tickets if people want to sit in the middle as it's definitely not the same. Having said that, the boat is very nice, the views are great and you get a glass of wine included. I would recommend but my tip would be sit on the lower deck in the comfy seats for the best views, and embark at the Tsim Sha Tsui side as they seem to board 1st.

A popular way to cruise Victoria harbor is with the Aqua Luna, a junk with red-sail. The sailing prices are HK$150 per adult, HK$120 per child for the afternoon sailing, HK$190 and $150 for evening sailing and HK$240 and HK$190 per person for the night sailing during the Symphony of Lights performance. This is considerably more expensive than taking the similar Star Ferry harbor cruise but then again, you get to enjoy the harbor and views of the skyline from a traditional junk style boat instead of a historic passenger ferry.

You board the Aqua Luna in both TST and Central but most passengers load at the TST embarkation point which is on the promenade past the Avenue of Stars towards the Clock Tower. The sailing is approximately 45 minutes and ticket comes with one beverage.

Overall, we feel this ticket price for the Aqua Luna is a bit expensive and would suggest taking the similar Star Ferry cruise if you are more budget conscious. However, if you want a traditional junk boat experience than you might enjoy a cruise on the Aqua Luna boat.

I happened to come across the Aqua Luna when I was walking along the front - it looked nice so I decided to take the harbor cruise. When I got on, I couldn't believe my luck! Gorgeous boat with large sofa type chairs, where you were served drinks and enjoyed the views whilst lounging on the comfy chairs! It was heaven and the staff were so friendly and attentive (brought me a blanket when it got a bit cold). It was so good that I took the leaflet and came back the next day to take the Aqua Luna to Stanley market. The hour and half trip there flew by as I took in the scenery and enjoyed another drink! Had just under 2 hours at Stanley which was plenty of time to walk round the market. Was heaven to catch the boat back and chill out on the sofa's and have a cold drink. I think this boat is a hidden gem in Hong Kong - it really was the best thing I did there. So relaxing and the perfect way to take in the scenery - I recommend to everyone!

I’m sure the cruise would have been delightful, but we were caught in tear gas in the middle of the protests on our way there, public transportation was shut down and locals urged us to turn around and go back to our hotel where it was safe. So, we did not get to go on this cruise and they refused to refund our money saying that only in a typhoon would they give a refund. So we had to chose between our safety and our money. Clearly we chose safety and are more than disappointed that they didn’t see a reimbursement as fair...

This was what I wanted to do most while visiting Hong Kong. Instead it turned out to be false advertising. We were NOT on a red sail junk like advertised. Instead it was a white sail with sails down. When we asked why the sails weren't up and not red when we could clearly see red sail junks cruising with their small sails up we were told it was for safety and the captain made that decision. How come all the others had theirs up though and were as advertised? Overall extremely disappointed and would never book again unless guaranteed we got what was advertised.

Gorgeous boat with loads of character and looks awesome at night when illuminated with colour - there are a couple of boats and ours was a big one.
Book ahead if you want the symphony of lights tour - we had the 6.30pm evening tour which was good because it was dark anyway (winter time) and the buildings were all lit up anyway.
A few minor grumbles - it was promoted as a 45 minute cruise - however this INCLUDES the time taken to travel over to Central Pier, dock, load passengers, and go back out into the harbour - and docking time back at Kowloon - so it really isn't 45 minutes of cruising on the harbour.
Based on that knowledge - if you want the best seats - get on at Kowloon and be there at least 20 minutes early to line up.
The boat is covered - which is great in case it rains - BUT - this means the views aren't that great if you just want to lounge back in the 'day bed' style seating up stairs - you either had to turn your neck to look out behind you, or scrunch down and look out the relatively narrow view on the opposite side of the boat.
We went out on a 'Cold weather alert' day (night) so it was FREEZING - but there were lovely warm blankets for everyone in each seat.
One drink is included (Beer, wine or juice).
It was a great Hong Kong experience on a very pretty boat, but a little but pricey when it comes to value for money.
Note: you need to be reasonable able bodied to board - standing on a step with two people on either side of you as you step over the gap between the wharf and the boat into the arms of two more waiting crew. It was very choppy on the night we did the tour and it took a while to board due to the bobbing up and down of the front of the boat. I'm recovering from a knee injury so the landing was a bit unpleasant and unstable. Th crew were great but a gang plank might be better?

Aqua Luna Boat cruise to Stanley HK

If you find yourself in HK on the weekend a good option is to go on the touristy Aqua Luna Boat cruise to Stanley. It is a great way to see parts of the coast and other islands you may not get to see otherwise. While they operate every day, They only operate this cruise on the weekend, probably as the Stanley markets are only open on the weekend, though I'm not sure of my facts on that point. I decided to give the cruise a go as I am on my own (on a business trip) and felt safe in a tourist attraction that was very highly rated on TripAdvisor. The cruise was good. It is not expensive unlike lots of other things in HK. For your money you get a five hour trip and 2 complimentary drinks. The boat part is 90 minutes each way. The "free" drink each way is a choice of beer, red or white wine or soft drinks. The remainder of the trip is free for you to wander the markets, shops and restaurants of Stanley before your return to Central (HK) or Kowloon. A few recommendations for you, firstly I would recommend the rear top of the vessel. It is a nice ambience and there is breeze for a large part of the journey to Stanley. I would recommend you choose the starboard side (right facing forward) for both journeys as it is in the shade, particularly for the return journey. I was on the port side for the return and it was very hot with little breeze as we were in the Lee of the island plus in the setting sun. Once we rounded back to the main populated part of down town central HK the breeze returned and was very pleasant. The rear was in the sun on the way there and in the shade on the return journey.
For me it was a terrific, relaxing and a safe way to get out on the water which I love. Many of us had a snooze on the way back. The lounges on the top deck force you to extend your legs and "lounge". While you do get a complimentary drink both ways and can buy more drinks, there was no food that was obvious to me. I ate lunch at Stanley and looked for a restaurant that had good air conditioning. I ended up choosing a new restaurant that wasn't busy (normally not a good sign) but I wanted air conditioning. Pinot Duck is new and the aircon was excellent as well as the food, no complaints. I chose the classic duck wrap as duck is their speciality.
Some people did the journey one way. I assume the other way was by bus or train. If you are short of time you could do the boat cruise one way and the train back or vice a versa. FYI you are expected back at the jetty by 3:20pm for a 3:30pm departure from Stanley back to HK/Kowloon.
