A decent nature trail near the beautiful Bride's Pool and Mirror Pool Waterfalls
Dec 2020
This is a short, easy and family-friendly trail found at the Bride's Pool area north of Tai Mei Tuk and the Plover Cove Reservoir. The trailhead is along on the east side of Bride's Pool Road just past the pull in parking area. It is around 1 km in distance and made up of well maintained stone steps and natural trail. The trail cuts through fairly heavily wooded area near natural springs that form under two impressive waterfalls, including the Bride's Pool Falls for which the nature trail is named and the Mirror Pool Falls. Along the nature trail, there are signs posted from time to time to explain the area vegetation and trees. You'll find several BBQ areas, old bridge built by local villages in 1906 and an ancient stone path between the villages of Wu Kau Tang village and Chung Mei that passes through the area and forms part of the trail for a while. In addition to the official Nature Trail, a highlight and main reason for most to visit the area is to slip into the ravine where you see nice streams and lightly clamber your way up to the beautiful Bride's Pool and waterfall. It is a beautiful falls that flows year round. Note: A splinter trail near the old bridge also takes you to the waterfall at mirror pool. This is a really nice 35 metre fall surrounded by more lovely streams and lots of good opportunities for photograph taking. Just follow the trail maps that are posted at the various intersections along the Nature Trail and all is easy to find and enjoy. Note: These falls are probably two of the finest in Hong Kong. As such, they can be quite popular and filled with visitors. If you want to see them without lots of people, do make sure to arrive early before the day visitors start arriving, particularly on weekends. Note: To visit the Bride's Pool Nature Trail, you can take direct bus on (275R - Sundays and public holidays only) from the Tai Po Market MTR Station. All other days, take mini-bus 20C which drops off at Tai Mei Tuk. From there you can hike up to the pool and falls or take a short taxi ride for drop off at Bride's Pool.

Bride's Pool is a small pond near Tai Po. It is also at the northern tip of Plover Cove Reservoir, a major freshwater lake in the city. The hiking path around the small pond is mostly flat and suitable for most people. Interestingly, the place is the origin of many ghost stories.

If you visit on a Sunday or public holiday, you can catch the 275R bus from Tai Po Market MTR station, meaning you are not reliant on having a car or getting taxis (unlikely on the way back). There are several shaded trails and plenty of eating areas with benches and barbecues, making it a lovely place to eat. The real highlights, though, are the Bride Pool and Mirror Pool, spectacular and very pretty respectively. There are lot of NO SWIMMING signs but they're largely ignored and the water is delightfully cool...I've heard. When we visited, a group was even abseiling down the former, which looked amazing! And it's relatively easy to wander behind the falls at the latter...apparently.

A small waterfall located at the Bride’s Pool Nature Trail near Plover Cove Reservoir in Tai Po. It’s quite easily accessible & suitable for families. There are barbecue & car park facilities nearby and hence families can enjoy other activities after a nice tracking exercise.
