400 year old walled village - Stop 9 on the Lung Yeuk Heritage Trail
Mar 2021
Wing Ning Wai is stop 9 along the Lung Yeuk Heritage Trail in Fanling. It is located very near to Wing Ning Tsuen (stop 8), its younger sister village in centuries past. What you will see here today is a late 18th-century sandstone entrance and small fragments of the original wall that surrounded the village in centuries past.

Historically, Wing Ning Wai has a history of over 400 years. This was a walled village laid out in a similar manner to other Tang Clan villages in the area. Houses were built in three separate rows with a shrine situated at the end of the centre alley. The shrine no longer exists while most houses have been replaced with modern buildings. What remains of historical value is the sandstone entrance to the old village. This was built in 1744 and is worth a brief stop and look at Wing Ning Wai

Note: There is no information panel posted outside of the Wing Ning Wai. However, you can find historical account of the old walled village and the village entrance structure at the Tang Chung Ling Ancestral Hall (stop 6) in the Rear Hall where panels have been setup with the history of each of the heritage attractions along the Lung Yeuk Tau Heritage Trail.

Note: Wing Ning Wai is not open to the public to wander within and explore. Just have a brief look at the entrance and then carry on with other stops along the Lung Yeuk Heritage Trail.

Entrance structure you can see as part of the Lung Yeuk Tau Heritage Trail in Fanling
Aug 2016 • Solo
The Wing Ning Wai entrance is one of the things to see at part of the Lung Yeuk Tau Heritage Trail in Fanling. The entrance was built in 1744 out of red sandstone and is interesting to see if you like viewing historic structures and buildings.

This entrance is in somewhat of a dilapidated state given its age. It provides good perspective when compared to the better preserved and attractive entrance to the main historic Wing Ning Tsuen, just a 1-2 minute walk up the street from Wing Ning Wai.

Note: This attraction is a bit tricky to find. Its behind a car park so keep your eyes open when searching for the old entrance structure. It is also best to have a printed map of the Lung Yeuk Tau Heritage Trail to help you make sure you are in the correct location for this and other attractions on the trail.

Note: Visit the Antiquities and Monuments Leisure Office & Cultural Services Department website 'Heritage Trails page to find more information about the Lung Yeuk Tau Heritage Trail, the various attractions you can see and for the downloadable map to assist you when self-walking experience in Fanling.
