Virginia was a vibrant and personable guide that made our day in Hong Kong fun and memorable. She allowed us to enjoy a flexible tour that catered to our specific wants, and we had a nice variety of cultural experiences. I personally loved the tranquil and beautiful gardens of the ___ monestary, juxtaposed against the city skyline, and the one of a kind view from Victoria’s Peak. The dim sum restaurant was just too cool.... very much a local hang-out, where Virginia is known personally and able to introduce us to some of the family working there. The food was quite delicious, and I loved learning the dim sum traditions and tea pouring ritual.

My husband’s favorites were the Star Ferry Promenade, with its city views from the harbor, the funicular ride down from the Peak, and comparing the MTR to subways in other cities... Hong Kong’s is much easier! He enjoyed the stop for egg waffles, a local street food; he chose the chocolate chip and found it very tasty. I personally loved the boba tea!
Virginia is English speaking, and speaks flawless Cantonese with the locals to communicate on our behalf, thus the best of both worlds. She is a wonderful conversationalist, and we had a delightful day all around. Thank you Virginia!

My husband and I have had this on our Hong Kong bucket list for some time now. A move out of HKG accelerated our plan to make it happen. We are kicking ourselves that we did not do it sooner! Highly recommend to HongKongers and visitors alike! Great food and a unique experience.

Virginia was a warm, friendly, bubbly guide. We enjoyed the tour very much. It was a packed tour, with 3 ‘activities’: mini bus ride, visited Kowloon Walled City Park and watched a cute old man make a traditional fortune sign with the art of tearing paper, and 6 food stops! However it did not feel rushed, and we walked quite leisurely to get to the next food stop.

Come hungry. We tried Indonesian satay and ginger rice, Thai Larb Moo, Islamic Beef Sandwich/Bun, Chiu Chow noodles, Chinese Beef Brisket Noodles and Egg tarts. The eateries were food stalls, small local diners or part of a Government Market Complex. It showcases the diversity of what Hong Kong has to offer, beyond the standard dim sum and over priced tourist traps.

Combine delicious food with a dose of history, and local knowledge. Highly recommend!

Have lived in Hong Kong for a very long time (10+ years) and never knew about this place until recently. Flooded with locals - especially seniors, seem to be regulars as they know the system very well. By system, I mean the flow of things at this restaurant. Yes, there is a flow... The servers are also mostly seniors who have been working here for decades. The flow is very traditional old-time Hong Kong where you serve yourself and not expect for any good service. Here are some tips to follow... 1/ Find yourself a seat (if you're lucky you will find your own table for your group, if you are a small group then may have to join another table with another small group of people) 2/ Wait for server to clean the table (don't touch anything, they don't like it when you interrupt their system - they will clean in due time 3/ A white paper slip will be thrown to you. This slip is important for marking the food baskets you take 4/ Don't expect to be served food, once the lady servers roll out their metal carts from the kitchen filled with steamed baskets full of goodies, get up from your chair and walk towards the cart with the white paper slip provided in point 3. Then point at what you want to eat, the lady server will stamp onto your paper slip then pass you the hot basket on a white plate (be careful very hot, super fresh) 4/ Continue point 3 until you are ready to check out. then take your slip to the front cashier. The cashier will count the marked stamps and inform your total payment amount.

And the yummiest way! Virginia took us on an extensive tour in the Whampoa area, definitely not the most popular in HK but that's why it has so much to offer! Very different from the traditional walking tours, you get to know locals through their eating habits and they are genuinely happy to share their traditions with those who take the time to come to them.

We saw a YouTube video with Anthony Bourdain eating typhoon shelter crab on a sempan, then we found Humid with a chance of fishballs so took the chance of booking. It was a really amazing experience! You start at Causeway Bay where the great guide Virginia took us to the tram via a shoe bashing ritual under the bridge. We have never seen that before and it was fun. We hopped on the tram then a short trip later were walking to Victoria Harbour typhoon shelter. The water taxi came and we were sitting on our private sampan where we were served a multi course feast. Seriously the best typhoon shelter crab, and the other dishes were amazing too. Virginia was great, she asked if we wanted privacy but she is great company and we were happy for her to give us the history of each dish, and of the people who used o live on boats in this harbour (some still do). Virginia is great and we were so fortunate to have her guide us through a wonderful dinner. I really recommend Virginia and Humid With A Chance Of Fishballs, to both tourists and locals who want to explore the inside of our city!

We met Virginia outside of a subway exit this morning to begin our dim sum guided luncheon. She was on time with a big smile on her face and excited to help us experience what is considered by many a classic dim sum lunch.

Since Virginia is Canadian born Chinese her English is impeccable which helped us in our conversations as we learned more about each other and about many of the cultural traditions in Hong Kong.

The restaurant was a short walk from our meeting point. I somehow felt transported back in time as I looked around the dining area with the servers pushing their dim sum carts up and down the isles, stopping at the tables, and dropping off their delicious wares with their patrons.

Virginia told us all about the traditional customary dim sum lunch and explained the various dishes available. She showed us how to wash our cups, bowls, chopsticks and spoon are using hot water provided at our table in a traditional manner.

She explained how to steep the tea properly and how to serve it to one another, thanking the pourer with an age old tradition of tapping two fingers on the table.

Once bowls and chopsticks were clean and ready and our cups of tea were poured we begin to explore the wonderful world of dim sum!

Frankly, I cannot recall precisely the names of the various dishes we were served, but they were all so very, very delicious! The dumplings were rich and flavorful with filings made from pork and chicken and shrimp and other delicious stuffings.

Virginia guided us through the various offerings each step of the way with an explanation of what we were enjoying. She also pointed out intricacies about our surroundings telling us about the locals who traditionally enjoy their dim sum lunch and how the entire process works. For someone only familiar with traditional American restaurants this was quite an eye-opener for us and a marvelous learning experience.

I wholeheartedly recommend Virginia and her guided dim sum lunch experience! The food was phenomenal, the ambience memorable, and Virginia made the whole thing simply spectacular! In fact, I would endorse any tour which Virginia provides because she is a fun, professional and engaging hostess!

With our day with Virginia we saw sights and experienced the great cuisine. Virginia was very accommodating and adventurous. She checked in with us often to make sure we were happy.

The highlights of our day together included:

Victoria Peak & Peak Tram
Dimsum at a 1920's traditional teahouse parlor (what a highlight of the day!),
We had the ha gow (prawn dumplings), siu mai (pork and shrimp dumplings), quail egg dumplings, sticky rice and malay cake.
While walking around downtown we had an opportunity to savor Egg tarts (inspired by the quiche) & milk tea.
Among the various sights during our day was the Man Mo temple, Star Ferry excursion, down back to the MTR and to Sham Shui Po.
Another local favorite was Snake penis and gecko wine (for male virility!)
Virginia also walked us through one of the many interesting Wet Markets.
The day wrapped up with more food.... YEAH! ...Rice rolls sauced with peanut sesame, soy sauce, hoisin and toasted sesame seeds with the locals in a sketchy alley.... BBQ pork and char siu, at a roasted meats place.

We highly recommend Virginia and can't say enough great things about her and the quality of the time we spent together. This was the best tour we had out of all!

You must connect with her.

We did the night tour with Virginia and Jojo, the food choices were great and the history behind each place was interesting. We also had a tour and history lesson about the Old Koowloon City.
Virginia is such a vibrant person, we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves

We were looking for a food experience in Hong Kong. What we got was better. It was a tour of a neighborhood that a typical HK'er might live in. We loved learning about the local culture and cuisine as we were taken along the streets. The food was just enough if you come a little ready to eat. Otherwise you'll get stuffed! The food was unique and different, all very tasty. We loved the food stops explored different flavors, not all the same thing. The tour guide was a great foodie and local who could share her own experiences living in Hong Kong.
