The area
Neighborhood: Wan Chai / Causeway Bay
Wan Chai and Causeway Bay are the retail centers of Hong Kong Island. Filled with shops, malls and restaurants, both areas are bustling with people – tourists and locals alike. Causeway Bay has one of the highest rents on the planet, and is a bit more polished and modern than its Wan Chai counterpart. Beneath the surface there is more than meets the eye – find boutique stores in the above ground floors of buildings and wander into side streets to find interesting restaurants and shops tucked away from the main roads. Wan Chai especially has experienced a modern revival in recent times, with an influx of trendy restaurants and bars around the Star Street area. In addition, both areas contain many of Hong Kong’s iconic tourist attractions worthy of your visit.

It has an interesting and cool vibe - and is suitable both for drinks and dancing. Ophelia holds many events - from artists exhibitions to themed parties for Halloween etc. The interior design is beautiful. It may be a bit expensive, but is worth visiting.

It's pretentious, expensive, noisy, and does not have the class, customer service, or quality of drinks to make any of the aforementioned either excusable or worth it. I went on a Wednesday night to celebrate a birthday; I had high hopes, as I've been to Maggie Choo's in Bangkok and enjoyed it.

We were a group of three women, and were subjected to a disdainful screening at the door, despite quite clearly ticking the boxes of the dresscode. We were then lead somewhat grudgingly to what I can only assume must have been the worst table in the house - barely even within the bounds of the bar, under a speaker; the hostess was scooping other people's jackets into a pile so we could fit round a table, despite there being a very obvious number of free spaces further in. I asked to move closer to the bar. Our original hostess disappeared, and another one came over to say we could sit closer to the bar if we were in and out within an hour.

Despite this, it took about 15 minutes for anyone to bring us a drinks menu. 10 minutes in, this menu was then switched for another one, which contained a list of four cocktails (as opposed to a menu's worth). Another 10 minutes and yet another hostess came over to take our order - the bar, I have to emphasise, was not busy by any stretch of the imagination - and when she brought the drinks, she brought with her our receipt, loose, no wallet, and requested we pay right there and then.

The whole experience just felt tacky and, for the prices they're charging, tacky is neither what I was looking for, nor what I expected. If it's important to you that your bar comes with live women in cheongsams displayed on shelves over the liquor bottles, I guess you might be able to overlook Ophelia's many failings. But, if not, I recommend going just about anywhere else.

The bar itself is really beautiful- the decor is stunning. The cocktails are pleasant too, but not extraordinary. The staff were fine. The music was boring. What I did not appreciate was the degradation of the female dancers. I love that there were dancers voguing in the bar and the small performance (around 11) where they were able to demonstrate skill and entertain guests. This, unfortunately, was only a small part of their job, with them perched up on the bar, just sitting around on display like objects. This is simply tasteless and vulgar- it is not an art, it is crass exhibitionism, analogous to the concept of a gentleman's club. Furthermore, the dress code was not enforced, and many people in the bar were dressed poorly. In this way, Ophelia missed the mark in maintaining the standard of class they purport to hold. If you're looking for an elegant, upmarket cocktail bar, I would not recommend Ophelia.

Strange bar experience that seems conflicted.
There are dancers and shows which almost border on burlesque, and (female) models are perched in strategic areas around the place and behind the bar. The clientele is definitely not of a "men's bar" but the vibe felt strangely exploitative of the women without any actual nudity. The decor is interesting.
They have a dress code of "no shorts" which may not suit the casual tourist wandering around in summer heat

Ophelia had a lot of hype, which unfortunately it didn't live up to. Friday night late, no atmosphere, a couple of staff turned up in the swings for 20 minutes, looked bored then left. Shame but there's much better places to go in this area.

From the moment you walk in the slightly tricky-to-find door, be prepared to be transported to a better, sexy world...on peacock feathers and smartly-mixed cocktails! Ophelia is like walking into an upscale Shanghai speakeasy of the 1930s or at least how Hollywood or a fevered dream would wish it to be. And despite the feeling of an exclusive, hidden world my wife and I were made to feel like we had just walked into our neighborhood bar. We ordered from the menu and challenged our awesome bartender to craft some off-menu cocktails and all were inventive, tasty and dare I say, beautiful! Cocktails are pricey but I would say we happily got what we paid for and then some. And although our man was a very talented and imaginative mixologist, he was warm, friendly and funny like a bartender should be. As a matter of fact, everyone we encountered that night were welcoming and friendly...not always easy to come by in any big city bar. The drinks, the atmosphere and our man added up to a very special and memorable evening. We will be back!

Taken there by friends who live in Hong Kong and thought it was a fun way to end an evening. The gentlemen we were with loved the living décor. Has a cool vibe and staff were nice.

The place is hidden, you access it through a common building. Atmosphere is very well created, with low lights and peculiar objects. Cocktails are stunning, never tried anything similar.
