The area
Neighborhood: Tsim Sha Tsui
Tsim Sha Tsui is one of the major tourist and shopping areas of Hong Kong. With a high concentration of hotels, retail shops and commercial offices – it’s a busy and bustling neighborhood that never sleeps. On the surface, Tsim Sha Tsui seems to only feature an abundant number of high-end retail stores selling designer brands and jewelry, owing to its popularity with high-budget shopping tours. However, it also contains a diverse range of attractions for the entire family. Whether taking a walk in Kowloon Park, exploring museums, going shopping or grabbing a bite to eat – Tsim Sha Tsui has something for everyone.

Year of the Pig
Feb 2019 • Solo
Celebrating the lunar new year in Hong Kong is colorful, crowded and slightly chaotic -- it all adds to the fun! One of the things I like to do is hunt down interesting and unique signs and oversized displays celebrating the new year's zodiac character. 2019 is the year of the pig. Given the connotation of "pig" in the U.S., some of the signage made for delightful double entrendes! The display pictured here was on Peking Road just a few steps away from the crowds on Nathan Road.

Exciting, jammed, loud and a great experience
Feb 2019 • Couples
We extended our Hong Kong visit a few days just for the Chinese New Year Night Parade and though we expected more were not disappointed. We wanted to experience Chinese New Year and we got it. Security was present but not to the extent it would be in the US. No wild drinking or disorderly conduct as might be experienced in some countries for parades/events, think Mardi Gras or Carnival. Much more family oriented. We even scored a goody bag (see pic) randomly handed out. The entire parade and pre-parade festivities lasted about 3 hours. A unique and memorable experience indeed. Don't miss this if you have an opportunity. Is it worth a trip to Hong Kong? I would say not, but if you're already there .....

Chinese New year- useful information
Feb 2019 • Family
I have visited hong kong during 2-9 Feb which falls under Chinese new year .
During my trip planning to hong kong i have read a lot of reviews of people asking question whether to visit hong kong during Chinese new year or not and all of them have said it will expensive and bit crowded to visit under Chinese new year but it is worth visiting there.
But with my own personal experience i suggest you all not to visit the country during this month, as all the shop are closed, even regular amenities like medicine and food shop are too closed.
The week of Chinese new year is a holiday for all and people from china flew in chunks to hong kong.
So its not the best time to visit hong kong or rather i would say the worst time i you want to kill you money and time then only plan in during Chinese new year.
I will also share one the most important hong kong do’s in my next post for hong kong visit.

Amazing performers with great variety

This parade is one of the best examples of the East meets the West. Performers worldwide creating breathtaking moments within a short time. The costumes, the accessories, the lighting and music are all carefully designed with the biggest sensual impact. You will be amazed by the extraordinary strengths and capacities of humankind.

Chinese new year procession - rubbish
Feb 2019 • Couples
I went to see hk procession last night - what a waste of time! Firstly there are massive crowds herded by lots of police. The procession itself is very small with a handful of marching bands doing Laos of the route and a few corporate style floats. There are long waits between the floats so no viewing momentum. I have seen far far better processions at local club days in the UK. The only real fun bit is watching the crowds trying to get a photo photo/ video of basically very little and the police shouting at them to behave.

Hong Kong New year Parade 2018
Feb 2018 • Couples
This was a total waste of our time. I felt so sorry for the people with small children. There were long waits between bands etc. We waited in our spot for 3 hours and never saw a float! I was so disappointed. We are from Vancouver and our parade is 100% better than this was. When we tried to leave the crowds were so thick it was quite scary trying to get out of the crowd. overall i loved Hong Kong but this was a 1 out of 10.

Once in a lifetime experience!
Feb 2017 • Solo
Breathtaking parade filled with fantastic floats and performers. The balloon floats were favorites. Staggering crowds but folks were happy and accommodating. The key to enjoying the parade is to book a hotel nearby so that you can rest (or use the bathroom) at your leisure. Bring your telephoto lens! Sometimes, it's hard to get close to the action. I loved the energy of the crowd!

Very crowded
Jan 2017
Very slow procession of floats/ dancers/ people dressed up, with often long periods of time between.
Very, very crowded - end of Canton Rd is to be avoided as there was qridlock and it became very squashed and quite scary.

Crazy in a fun and good way
Jan 2017 • Couples
First time to experience Chinese New Year in Hong Kong ang it was such an experience. In Tsim Sha Tsui, the streets were closed specifically Nathan Road, Canton Road, Haiphong Road due to the evening street parade. Everybody was on the streets celebrating, there were bands playing, dragon dancers, yoyo exhibitionists, etc.
