2 hours away from Chongqing by car, started the trek (11km long) from South Gate and the trek lasted 3-4 hours (knowing that I took the cable car [which isn't a must-do] and also the bus within the Black Mountain Valley).
Entrance was 85 RMB and another 80 for all public transportation within the valley (coach from North Gate to South Gate, cable car, little shuttle bus from the end of the trek back to South Gate, and then coach again from South Gate to North Gate).
Weather was a bit rainy which gave a great atmosphere. The trek isn't difficult at all with a nice path along the way. If you want to be close to nature and enjoy the view and noise of water, that place is a great idea for a day trip away from Chongqing.

I've been here a few times during my winter vacations as a university English teacher, and it's one of the best places I've been in my years in China. In the summer, I've heard it gets swarmed with people, but if you go around the Spring Festival, when everyone is at home with their families, you will pretty much have it to yourself and maybe a handful of other people. I have some friends who are from Wansheng (the town closest to the valley), and we usually go there or I take new friends there.
The Black Valley itself is a beautiful and mysterious place - full of lush vegetation and waterfalls. It's so unlike much of China. The air is clean and fresh, and you cannot hear cars, planes, or anything besides the water. It's so great! It's not hard to get there - buses go in and out of Wansheng and downtown Chongqing all the time, and it's not expensive if you bring your own food and drinks (that's what I'd recommend). This is a 5A tourist site, which puts it on the same status as the Great Wall. Yeah - it's a big deal. I really like this place - it's worth the journey and the money. Absolutely.
On the flipside, it's a shame that they're building so much around it right now. As you're driving in, you'll notice SO MUCH CONSTRUCTION around the valley. When I went in 2012, it was all green and undeveloped. Now, the government has realized that there is money to be had, so there is a lot of ugly development going on. However, the valley/park itself remains protected and untouched.

I went here with some friends in december 2012. We had hired a private guide to take us there on a day trip.
This place was truly amazing, its a forest of stone on the top of a mountain, doesnt get more unique than that. Our guide told us that it was very unusual that he got to take tourist there, witch is very strange. The veiws are spectacular and it feels like you walked into a fairy tale. Beside us there were not more than 20 other people visiting this large site, all chinese of course. We probably were the only westerners there for a long time. The locals got very curious when we got out of the car. Not in a bad way, they were nice, and no one tried to sell you anything.
Go to this place if you can! You wont regret it!
Just before you enter the visitors parking lot there is a restaurant with a great veiw of the valley. Have lunch there if you can. It vas a great place.

Easy accessable with bus 106 from Wansheng. Took Shuttle bus from visitors Center to south entrance. Starting with Cable Cart down into Black Valley and the golf cart out to North Entrance even our 3,5 year old son could make this trip.

It is not far away from the downtown of Chongqing so that we could travel there and return to Chongqing in one day.
But i think it is a little tense that actually we should have been there for two days.
I suggest you to stay 2-3 days there that you won't feel tired.

We took bus 106 from Wansheng bus station to the north gate. We found a hotel previously online with help from a Chinese friend for 100 CNY a few minutes from the park gate. We paid 80 CNY for the entry including 20 CNY for a return bus from the south gate back to the north gate. From the tourist center a shuttle bus drives you to the north gate. It took 3 1/2 hours for the entire hike and it was not rushed. You can skip the first hour by taking the tourist bus which is ok to take as you won't miss much as the walk is along the same route. You can also take a cable car up the last 2 kilometers but I chose to walk. If I did it over I would have taken the bus direct from the tourist center to the south gate and then walked back to the north gate, thus waking down the stairs instead of up, but not hard either way and if you choose the cable car it won't matter- although you will miss a very nice waterfall although probably can see from the cable car. While the tourist center at the north gate was quite cold the hike must have been slightly lower elevation as it was quite a bit warmer. We caught the bus at 17:30 from the south gate back to the north gate tourist center and were told the last one was at 18:00 but assume they know if anybody else is still on the trail who bought the ticket.

It wad spectacular a highlight for our China trip. Most beautiful day walk through the narrow valley? On flouting planks and beautiful waterfalls. We caught a bus from Chongqing and stayed a wansheng at Huixin holiday Inn...not good...then 1/2 hour bus up the windy road to the Black Mountain....stay up their to the South gate. You can cable car the first part though you will miss out on the beautiful waterfalls. The last bit you can pay for a car advisable. Then you can get a bus from the North gate. Public transportation is very easy, just have everything written in Chinese characters as there is absolutely no English!

We started at the north gate and took the gondola the first kilometres. After the gondola the hike is about 6 km to the south gate. The hike is not very demanding, there are a few places that can be challenging to people who is afraid of heights. There are pathways on the side of the mountains and bridges over the river. There are a lot of waterfalls and the forest is very lush and green. A lot of areas where you can enjoy some snacks and rest for a while.

Anyone can please tell me what are the mediums of transportation and how much time it takes for Wansheng Dreams Ordovicians Theme Park/ Wansheng Black Valley Park (Please differencite too if you can) from Chongqing main city? How much it cost for an adult ticket? Is there any student discount? How much time it needs to fully visit the place? Is it worth it?
