What a tour, what a history and scenic scenes. During Covid times, we thought enjoying the capital would be a good choice having so many questions in our minds however all disappeared thanks to professional team by China Highlights. We totally spent 5 nights and 6 days in Beijing, started with Forbidden City, Temple of Heaven, Lama Temple, Hutong and Summary Palace. Thanks to our guide Jenny everything was extremely well organized although having 48 hours of non stop raining. The cultural heritage and details have been well explained and I definitely recommend to visit Beijing with a guide. Solo Travel is also possible but to understand the historic details with their reflection on buildings, you definitely need a guide. Second step of the trip was hiking on the Great Wall which was led by Alan who is, same as Jenny, very well trained, experienced, kind and definitely fluent in English. During our 2 day visit to the wall, all preperation was set in advance, camping gear, food, route explanation were done in advance and waiting for us. After staying on the wall, second day we hiked about 10km which took 5 hours which was full of history and excitement. Special thanks to our driver who was LiHaiBing, he was punctual and very kind during entire trip. Very glad to have this wonderful trip and looking forward to enjoying next one.

Dedicated one full day out of our 3 day Beijing Trip from Shanghai. We signed up with China Highlights (very easy and smooth process). Day before the trip, we were contacted by our awesome guide Oliver @ China Highlights. We were picked up at our hotel at 9am sharp and was greeted by Oliver and our driver for the day. Oliver was fantastic throughout the entire day with a lot of historical information about the wall, bilingual (very important!!!) and overall a very enthusiastic tour guide which is imperative IMO. The weather wasn't great to begin the day (rain & wind) but nothing stopped us. We drove from BJ downtown out to Jiankou roughly around 2 hrs. Once we got there, it was a 45min - 1hr hike until you reach the wild wall entrance of Jiankou. The hike was challenging (great for those looking for one) and the iffy weather also added to the experience :). Nonetheless, once we got there it was well worth it. From there we hiked along the unrestored stretches of the wall towards Mutianyu. I would definitely not trade the experience for anything as it was so cool to hike on parts off of the beaten path of the wall. However, I would highly recommend wearing proper hiking shoes and walking stick at least to bushwhack. Oliver was great throughout the way and make sure we stopped at spots for a breather and take some nice pictures (do it for the gram!!!). After stretches of the ruins we made our way to the more typical parts of the wall in Mutianyu. It was a nice transition from the ruins to the restored. Everything was that much more dramatic when the weather turned up and the sun was gleaming. We decided to hike a little further than our original plan and took the toboggan down (100RMBpp). It was a fun 4-5 min ride down and worth it IMO. Since we elected to hike longer (total approx 10km), it was already past 5pm so we decided against dinner which was included in our tour and headed back to downtown BJ (approx 75min car ride). Overall I would highly recommend this tour and especially Oliver. I would recommend this route for people that are quasi adventurous, light-moderate hiking experience and also a great way to stay away from the crowds, especially during the time we went over the mid autumn break. Thank you China Highlights and Oliver for a great time at the wall!

I used China Highlights for the previous leg of my tour (Guilin-Yangshuo), and based on the excellent service I received, decided to book them in Beijing at the last minute. I was very pleased with the service I received. My original plan was to fly from Guilin to Beijing to meet up with an old friend and explore the city on my own, but due to a time crunch, a body crunch (see photo), and a change in the COVID situation, I ended up having to book a tour instead. Note to others - It is exceptionally hard to get popular tour tickets on yours own, so it is better to find a knowledgeable tour guide. Alisa (travel agent) connected me with tour guide Jenny, and what a gem she is! We travelled by private car, but Jenny timed our adventures for when the crowds were low and traffic was bearable. Even in popular places like the Great Wall at Mutianyu and the Forbidden City, Jenny had routes figured out to dodge large crowds. We never had to wait in line for anything, which was a great relief, as I had my arm in a sling from other adventures - go team, go! There is no way I would have managed my anxiety in tight crowds, a busted shoulder, and a dearth of ticket acquisition options without China Highlight's help. Jenny was also very warm and conversational, which I greatly appreciated as I was travelling solo. She was patient with my questions and had deep knowledge about diverse aspects of the historical places we visited. She was also very flexible. The tour guides and travel agent I worked with from China Highlights went far and above what most tour groups would provide. All of them were professional but also showed their humanity, which is sometimes rare in the tourism industry. I would highly recommend using any of their services and will use them for further travel arrangements in China.
