Man-made stone hillock in Imperial Garden
Mar 2017 • Family
This is a man-made stone hillock situated in the North of the Imperial Garden. The hillock is about ten meters high with a steep winding path to the top. On the hill top is the Imperial Prospect Pavilion or Pavilion of Imperial Scenery. The area is surrounded by beautiful gardens enjoyed only by the Royal family and concubines. As the palace is on flat land, this was the only way to view the outside world and the vastness of the palace grounds. The Royal family would come here once a year paying homage and respect to all things beautiful. On the double 9th festival every year, the Royal family would climb the hill to escape misfortune on that day. We did not climb to the hill-top but sat in the gardens enjoying the peace and relative quietness here.
