We live in Beijing for 11 years now, and every year we visit the Summer Palace in another season. The lake and surroundings are best in April - May with all the trees and shrubs flowering so rich.

Great for photo ops. The bridge leading across it to a temple is cute. A boat trip could also be the highlight of your day.

Before you visit the Summer Palace you must read the history associated with it to get a full understanding of the amazing sights. Take a boat ride on one of the many boats on the lake.
