Little Disappointed
Jun 2019
We arrived at the snack street by metro, exiting Wangfujing station at exit C2. It is only a short walk from the metro exit to the actual snack street. However, there is also a wide street with lots of shopping centres, fashion stores and eating places. The actual “snack street” is a little side street, about a hundred meters long, with a few stores selling meat on a stick, boiled offal, duck pancakes, crepes and various drinks. Perhaps we were expecting more, but we found this street to be a little disappointing. The local tourists however, seemed to be enjoying consuming the ‘meat on a stick’ and the bowls of offal. Despite being just a shopping & food area, there was a large police presence, which appears to be common across China. We even saw a little old woman selling water on the side of the street. When we walked back past her, she was surrounded by police and appeared to be getting arrested for selling illegally, as there was another shop owner standing there yelling at her. We assume he reported her, for taking customers away from his shop. Back on the main street, in front of on one of the department stores, there was small water show going on, with fountains firing to music. This had drawn a large crowd. As well as locals, there appeared to be many western tourists, wandering around the area. As for western style toilets facilities… I really didn’t see any being available on either the lane-way, nor the larger street. Perhaps some of the department stores might have toilet facilities available for people to use. Perhaps, we were at the snack street too early to see all of the stall set-up, as we didn't see any bugs or other exotic items on the menu here.

Recently Expanded
May 2018 • Couples
This ancient street has been a staple at Wangfujing and is known where you can eat the BBQ bugs. For years, that and a few trinkets were sold here. Now, they have expanded and added many more food stalls. The food is more expensive than other street food areas in Beijing but it is intended for tourists. It still won’t break the bank.

Fun but very busy

Quite a sight to see all the different snacks and food in the stalls. From your normal pork buns and dumplings to scorpions and spiders. This street has it all. The favorite for me was the toffee strawberries.

The Snack street
Nov 2017 • Family
This street is very touristic with a lot of interesting snack-shops with grilled bugs, scorpions, snakes and grasshoppers, also smells are not for sensitive ones!

Friends almost ate the spider and then chickened out
Sep 2017 • Friends
We were in Wangfujing and we told our friends about this older section of the street where there are bugs etc… on bbq sticks. They had agreed to try one but then when we were in line, the person ahead of us had tried a raw one and was bit on the lip. That was all she wrote, and they decided not to try it anymore. It is a cool street but go at night when it is more lively and more of a cultural experience.

Fun and semi unique
Sep 2017 • Couples
Regular stuff to buy as other locations in china though prices seemed to be lower if you bargain hard. What makes this area unique is the variety of street food. A lot of cool things to see.

Unique & exotic food street!
Sep 2017 • Couples
Interesting side street offering primarily food and some retail products. Food stalls line both sides of this narrow alleyway. A huge variety of food choices with equal number of smells. No restrooms in this area. Great people watching and photo taking opportunities. A gem of a street if you are looking for exotic foods from insects to traditional Chinese fare and everything in between. Located off Wangfujing Street towards the end on the right side. Must experience!

Meeting gate where modernization takes a back seat
Jun 2017 • Couples
Wangfujing Street has been revitalized and is now very modern. This section is where that revitalization has taken a back seat to the old customary ways of how it appears markets were done in past times. When one things of Wangfujing you think of fried scorpions, beetles, bats and tarantulas on skewers but actually this is where all of that takes place. It is quite enough to see it and another thing to taste it. We’ve tried the fried scorpions and they aren’t actually that revolting. They taste like barbecue chips. I haven’t the guts to try the other insects. Be prepared to haggle the price of the merchandise here as they quote ridiculously high prices and are prepared to reduce the price of their merchandize considerably.

Interesting insight to street foods
Apr 2017 • Couples
If you're curious to check out some of their more unusual street foods then this is the place for you. It's jammed packed with people and stalls. You need a strong stomach for this and some of them are upsetting to see. Be aware of pick pockets.
