Great experience getting Peking Opera Tickets!

Hoping for same-day Peking Opera tickets at Li Yuan Theater, I called the Travel Great Wall office (the Opera's ticketing agency) to see if there were any available. There were, so I confirmed quickly through email, and we made arrangements for the pickup. As we're traveling without cell phone service, our coordinator WhatsApp'd me to let me know of the... More

I found out about this hike (6km Hike-Jinshanling to Simatai West) on a travel blog and I am so grateful! While it may take a little longer to get to this section than some of the other sections, it was well worth it. There was our group of 11 and we passed maybe a few other tour groups of about... We booked the buses to this section of the wall through Beijing Downtown backpackers following a recommendation by a colleague. The trip was about 45usd and was worth every penny (as well as the 3hour trip to get there). The wall was empty and our group of 8 were left to trek a 6km stretch to Simatai east. There is... More

Our guide for the day, Colin from China Highlights picked us up on time. this very steep and challenging hike was so picturesque, and had so many photo opportunites. Colin was a very thoughtful guide and was concerned with our health and safety, as it was an extremely hot and humid day. We took plenty of rest breaks and Colin... More

We were picked up and transferred to Jinshanling Great Wall section. We choose to take the cable car up to the wall. We walked the restored section to Simati which has unrestored sections. This was hard but just take your time, I am very overweight and over 50 so you too can do it. The views are breath taking. Most... More

We took a tour bus with other foreigners to Jinshanling, but hiked to Simatai without a guide. The views were stunning - clear blue skies and green mountains. Most of the route was deserted except for our group. I highly recommend visiting in the spring!

I have made a few trips to the wall and this was my favourite. The Jinshanling section is restored but at either end there is nothing to stop you exploring the ruins beyond. It is quieter than Mutianyu and the scenery is better in my opinion. It was one of he highlights of my trip and a far better experience... More

We were picked up at 6AM at our hotel. Two-hour bus ride to the wall. We had a guide that we loosely followed up the old wall. Many parts were crumbled or straight up and semi-challenging to climb. The hike took about three hours and we were bussed back to our hotel. Definitely hike one of these areas and avoid... More

Best thing to do in Beijing. Get away from crowds and smog! Anyone can do this hike unless you are really extremely unfit. There are steep stages but they can be done just take your time!! Amazing views, parts of the wall refurbished, others parts are not, very few hawkers but are in no way annoying! We booked with beijing... More

Easy to do this without a tour group/guide. The hike between Jinshanling - Simatai is about 10kms and is (in March, at least) was almost completely free of tourists. The hike takes about 3 hours to complete (including photo and snack stops). You will find a few (but only a few) vendors selling water/snacks/souvenirs/beers along the way, so best to... More
