This is the largest gate in the Forbidden City. After corssing the Meridian Gate (Wu men) you reach a court where you will see 5 white stone bridges that cross the Inner Golden Water River, a channel of 2 Km length dug in order to protect the Forbidden City from fire and flooding.

The square beyond the river is 10.000 square meters.

The Gate, which is the main entrance to the Outer Court, is guarded by 2 bronze lions that simoblize the imperial power.

The hall inside the Gate is where the wedding of the emperor was usually held.

After crossing the Gate you'll reach the Outer Court, with the huge Hall of Great Harmony .

Actually It would be difficult and of course a shame to miss it since this is, in my opinion, what makes the Forbidden City so special and famous.

This is probably the most interesting and even stunning part of it: this immense empty space enclosed by these splendid pieces of Traditional Chinese Architecture.

If you have seen Chinese movies like Hero with Jet Lee, this is where the thousands of Chinese soldier stood.
And it is so much more than impressive here for real ... his huge space is amazing.

I have attached, as I always do, some pictures to give you a better understanding and feeling of the place...

I hope you'll have good weather like us yet it is not likely to happen, statistics are in favor of a cloudy, or even rainy, weather...

Anyway, this is the Number 1 Attraction in Beijing so don't miss it

Make sure you go early so you can take a picture of the Lion statues without the crowd of people.

Or you can go in the dead of winter when no one would go.

You wont' miss this if you just keep walking straight in the middle of the path.

Summary-
Impossible to miss great photo opp with lions.

It was yet another beautiful architecture. My guide told me that it was important to be big and colourful in China.

This is one of several imposing buildings in the Forbidden Palace Museum. The architecture is ancient Chinese and beautiful . This is one of many sights you see inside the Forbidden Palace.

This gate is huge and even with thousands of visitors you feel small in this greater scheme of gate and entrance

This is the second gate you pass through when walking south to north through the Forbidden City. Be sure to look up at the detail in the painting as you are passing through. The gate is quite large and very imposing.

To be honest, there is so much to take in when you visit this area. This gate is beautiful, and certainly matches how imposing the whole design of all the structures are. Take your time to look around and also to look up as you enter. I also advise a guided tour so you can understand the history of everything you are seeing.
