You'll love it here if:
- you love Lao She (老舍) or wouldn't mind learning more about him
- you'd like to check out the humble abode of a celebrated author
- you're in the vicinity and want to kill some time but without having to spend a single yuan

Reconsider if:
- you're short on time
- you're not in the vicinity

This place is especially good to visit if you've just taken a number at the infamous Sijiminfu (四季民福) restaurant nearby, which serves good Peking duck, and you've got an hour to kill.

It's not a fancy establishment, but it's clean, well maintained and has a homely atmosphere to it (duh). Best of all entrance is free of charge.

I liked the courtyard, quaint as it is, where there're two persimmon trees and benches for you to sit and relax. Admittedly it's not very big. Same goes for the rooms, which you can't even properly access, but then it costs money to maintain the furniture and nobody's paying a dime to drop by so who am I to complain?

You won't be spending more than an hour here but it's definitely worth checking out if you're in the area.

Charming

Lovely area around the lake in the Hutong, well presented and not a lot of visitors or people around, writers home and I think we'll worth a visit if you are in the area.

Authentic experience
Oct 2014 • Friends
The simplicity of the past was maintained despite the typical "concrete restoration technique" of Chinese tourist attractions. There are interesting collections of Lao She's belongings and no loud music blaring in the background. The staff is friendly and there are not crowds of tourists so it is a nice excursion.

Atmospheric gem

A gem because you can see where the Chinese writer Lao She lived and wrote. He visited the West and went back to China. Includes room of his books: although I could not understand the Chinese description, I purchased a short guide to his life including an English translation. Definitely worth a visit if you like visiting writers' homes. Has a charming simple courtyard garden.
