Mary made our trip. Her knowledge, enthusiasm and generosity of spirit were second to none and I'd highly recommend her company.

Great private tour guide. Great English and knows the city very well. I saw everything I wanted in 3 days during the Golden Week in Beijing. Perfect guide. She will tailor the experience to what you want out of your sightseeing.

My family and I had a wonderful time in Beijing this August and we owe a big part of that to Mary. She is a very good guide and such a kind person, that's why traveling with her was an incredible experience. In three days she managed to show us the most important places in Beijing and to teach us a lot about China's history and culture. Moreover, she was always so happy and warm that my whole family got attached to her.
All in all, I am really grateful that I hat the chance to have Mary as a guide because I'm sure that my trip to China wouldn't have been the same without her. I hope that someday I will have the chance to see her again and that until then, lots of other tourists will have the opportunity to discover China's capital with Mary at their side.

John was great to help me out when decided need a help to navigate the Beijing dirt market and cloisonné factory. I emailed Mary and she was out of town but her husband John was great to accommodate me on last minute decision to take a translator with me. He helped me find great souvenirs and explained history behind items. Highly recommend if you don't like to bargaining and want a local to point you to "quality" fakes at the dirt market!

Mary picked us up as arranged and was happy to plan our trip in the fly and adapting it according to our needs and traffic conditions. Her English was the best we had encountered in Beijing and her knowledge of history and all things China was brilliant. We thoroughly enjoyed the Great Wall Mutianyu and the drive through the mountains. The cable car up and toboggan down enhanced the experience but of course the wall itself was incredible and going in the offseason meant that in our photos the wall looked tourist free which is never easy to accomplish. We were excited to have our first hotpot meal with Mary and would highly recommend her services in Beijing.

Our family of 4 adults (husband/wife, grown son and daughter) were in Beijing for 6 days, picked John from reviews here (Mary was in England), figured we would try him for 2 days - we were so lucky! He drove us to Great Wall Mutianyu the first day - we spent 3 hours there. Second day went to Forbidden City, Hutongs, Marco Polo Bridge and Acrobats show, then Peking Duck dinner. He is a former history teacher, and knows statistics and dates, but far more in depth, he brought it to life with color and great humor. Liked him so much, we added a 3rd day, then a 4th to Summer Palace & Lama+Confucius Temples, then finally to Eastern Ching Tombs. Was skeptical about the last, but was stunned by it. Restaurants were all excellent and authentic (my wife is from Taiwan, so we know). Hated to say goodbye, he did a superlative job.

John Ma was the perfect host for our 3 day trip to Beijing. We hit all the highlights in a whirlwind tour. Very good English, excellent and interesting commentary; just right for our level, we didn't feel overloaded with info but came away feeling much more informed about the fascinating history and culture in China. Compared to other tours the price is very reasonable. So look no further! Plus the food was great because we went to local places where we were the only tourists eating fantastic food. Made the experience so much better. Plus the weather was very sunny! Thank you!

We were in Beijing for seven days and the best days of our vacation were the ones in which John Ma lead us around. As a former Chinese History teacher, John was able to give us a history lesson while showing us the great sites. At a very reasonable cost, having this private tour was indispensable.
Over three days he gave us tours of the Forbidden City, Tian'amen square, the Great Wall, Temple of Heaven, the Summer Palace, Lama Temple, Water Cube, Birds Nest, acrobatic show, the pearl market and the Hutong area by rickshaw.
We would not have had our experience without Mary and John nor would we have eaten at great local restaurants.
This is the only way to see Beijing

We had 2 days booked with a group tour company. Big mistake. Cost was higher and they try to milk you for whatever they can. Decided to cancel day 2 and go with a private guide. We called Mary and it was the best decision. We got a private tour of the places we wanted to go for half the price of what tour companies were charging. Mary was wonderful. She was a English teacher so her English is very good. She also knows her history, she is like a walking history book. There was also a 2hr line to get into Forbidden City and she had a way to get us in much faster(15min). Overall we got way more out of a tour with Mary than we ever could have with a tour company. It felt like a tour with a family friend. I would highly recommend this option for anyone going to Beijing.
