Effective 01 May 2019 this place will be closed
Apr 2019 • Solo
2019年5月1日以降は営業停止です。4月30日まで在庫一掃セールやってました。 Effective 01 May 2019 whole building including this place will be closed. And now doing clearance sale until 30 April. Not sure they will reopen at the same site or move to outer Beijing or won’t reopen as the same concept market. 2019年5月1日以降は営業停止です。4月30日まで在庫一掃セールやってました。

Closing down? Fantastic flowers, fish, tortoises, furniture, etc.

We visited at an "All sale" and were told the building will be demolished. Lots of customers were taking advantage of the good prices. Not only flowers but also fine shops with pet animals, stones, furniture, etc.

Waste of Time
Dec 2018 • Solo
Had great expectations of shopping for cheap & extensive flowers (fake decorative one),including Christmas decorations. Few shops selling fake flowers, 3 shops selling Christmas decorations which were outdated & overpriced. Fake flowers looked like tired old stock. Fresh flowers were nicest part of the market but usual variety & cheap. Whole market consists of 2 smalll floors & can be done within 15 to 20 minutes. I am sure there are better markets in other cities of China. I have seen better flowers & home decor in Shanghai.

Empty, run down unlike the pictures !
Oct 2017 • Friends
It was so empty and run down unlike the buzzing nature shown in the pictures. It was a bit of a walk from the station especially during this dreary grey Winter season. Interesting shops- i particularly liked the incense Hinduism and Buddhism shops, jewellery bric a brac shops and the furniture reproductions. All quite interesting. The flower market had some beautiful flowers and i'm sure the atmosphere would be very different if it were Chinese New year. I managed to snatch up 3 orchid plants for under 100yuan. I don't know if that is good, as one orchid plant in London would be at least £10 each!

Save this for the locals and shop somewhere else

At first glance, the building looks a bit run-down and deserted - depending on which side you enter from. Once inside is a labyrinth of hallways, stairwells, etc. The flower market itself is amazing; Absolutely beautiful flowers and a collection of shells and live fish. However, I went to the market, based on a recommendation from the hotel concierge because I needed to buy a backpack or briefcase - something to carry my work stuff in; my backpack I brought with me had to be replaced. I found backpacks and briefcases - finally after over an hour of searching various hallways and stairwells, but only in 2 stores. Not much variety, but I just needed/wanted something basic. One shop I went into, the lady walked into the store from the hallway where she had been visiting with another shop owner, but she never said a word to me. The articles in her store were very nice, but I could tell they would likely cost more than I was willing to pay. I ventured on and happened upon another store. There I found 3 briefcases. They were obvious knockoffs: Burberry, Prada. The "Prada" one had such a poor quality zipper on it that when I unzipped it to look inside, I almost couldn't get it re-zipped. So, I decided on the Burberry one. I asked the shop keeper how much. She whipped out her calculator and typed in 900 (Yaun) - about $134.00 US Dollars. I said, "No." She didn't counter or say a word. She just laid down her calculator. So, I left. I was one of the few non-locals in the entire market. So, if you're looking for beautiful flowers, or maybe dinnerware, or artwork, then check it out. If you're looking for knock-off goods that you can bargain for a good price, look elsewhere. It was kind of disappointing.

Open again and better than ever
Jun 2017
Disregard previous reviews (including one from me, hopefully now taken down) mentioning that the Lai Tai Flower Market was closed. It has now reopened and is better than ever. Apart from the huge range of real and artificial flowers and shrubs on display in the main hall, the perimeter is now lined with small shops selling a wide variety of crafts. On the floor above the Flower Market, the large gallery space has reopened, offering art of all descriptions from original works to reproductions. Well worth a browse (bargaining essential) even if it is perhaps not quite to the standard of the 798 Art Zone. In the basement beneath the Flower Market (separate entrance, to the right of the Flower Market's main entrance) there is a vast ceramics market where all manner of chinaware is available (again, bargaining essential). The whole complex is very well worth a few hours of any visitor's time.

The only open section was a small space on the 3rd floor which was gold supplies and a few plants. No fish or advertised areas.
