I did the “2 days Beijing highlights and Great Wall tour” and highly recommend.

It ended up being just myself and 4 other people so we had plenty of time in every stop and never felt rushed.

Make sure you wear comfortable shoes. Lots of walking, lots of steps! I felt like I was hiking most of the day.

Lunch was great but on the first day we were asked to eat “family style” instead of choosing an individual plate so there was some confusion since 3 people didn’t eat seafood or pork, 1 didn’t eat rice, 2 were not into Chinese food and wanted to eat salads. The budget was 60 per person so I recommend the tour guide to not force the group to eat family style and let everyone chose their own meal (when we offered that she kindly denied so we were stuck eating family style)

We got “lucky” being amongst the first tourists to the Great Wall post covid-19, and had the place to ourselves (we live in China, so domestic travellers our only competition). Rico was an exceptional guide, helping to carry our things when we wanted to run part of the way, answering all our questions and letting us dwell at particular points. A fantastic experience all round.

Really enjoyed our two day small group tour with Cactus of China Highlights. Everything was handled very efficiently. Both the Minivan on the first day and the sedan on the second day were comfortable and the drivers were both careful and helpful. Guide Cactus was really great at putting the sights into historical perspective. Her English is virtually perfect and her enthusiasm and sense of humor really made the two days a lot of fun, while still providing a lot of background on Chinese history. I particularly appreciated her accommodating my request to find a Hot Pot restaurant for lunch on day two right by the gorgeous Temple of Heaven. And she helped to teach me how to order and eat this Beijing specialty. Very highly recommended.

Researched a few companies and I had decided to go with Trippest. Niko was prompt in his email replied. Hence, I booked a private tour (1 to 1) for 2 days at Zhangjiajie with an English tour guide. Lily command of english was quite good and she is able to explain to me the history and etc throughout the tour. She also helped me to take lots of beautiful photos and video! After the tour, we even become friends and have a meal together. Overall, I enjoy myself during the tour.

We had a fun time making dumplings at a local lady's home in the Hutongs. Our guide Colin was first class, friendly and knowledgeable and very chatty. The lady who we did the class with was brilliant and managed to get us to make some decent dumplings despite the language barrier! The only reason I didn't give 5 stars was that I was expecting to make dumplings from scratch, making the dough and fillings and cooking them, rather than just assembling pre made ingredients, but it was still a lot of fun.

Dear Jo, We are delighted to have experienced the joy of making dumplings in the hutongs with you. Nice picture! Your dumplings were wrapped so successfully, as if you had already made a hundred of them. Thank you for liking the guide Colin; we will pass on your praise to her. We appreciate your feedback on the dumpling making activity. Since most guests have limited time, we need to consider the time for both making the dough and preparing the filling for the dumplings. We will carefully consider how to optimize this activity to make it even more enjoyable for guests. Thank you very much for your suggestions. Best Regards, Trippest Customer Care.

I did the Forbidden City and Mutianyu Great Wall small group tour. When they picked me up, I was informed that I was the only one on the tour that day (low season). I’m so glad they didn’t cancel the tour! I had such a great day with my guide, Susie, and the driver, Mr. Hu. Susie was very knowledgeable about the sites and her English is excellent. Also she was a lot of fun, I felt like I was on a tour with a friend. And she thought of all the little things like bringing body warmers for me to use in case it was cold up on the Wall and having tissues for the loo in case there wasn’t any toilet paper. The restaurant where we had lunch had excellent food and a fun atmosphere! Highly recommend!

Had an amazing tour with Rico as our tour guide. Picked up promptly at our hotel, comfortable drive to Jinshanling. We were lucky that it was pretty quiet the morning we went. The views were spectacular and it really felt like we were walking a path through history as we went. Rico had information about the Wall and it’s development/use through the centuries. Also his English was very clear and easy to understand. We wrapped up with a tasty local lunch and sleepy drive home. Would thoroughly recommend.

This advert is a lie. You will not be joining a guided hike and you will not be 'accompanied by your guide, the round trip hike is about 3.7 miles and takes approximately 3 hours'. You will get a van to the wall and an entry ticket then be told to get the chair lift as it takes too long to walk. At the wall the guide left and told us to be back at the restaurant for 12:10 for lunch. Very poor and misleading. The wall is great, just go with someone else.

My husband and I from the US took this tour with another couple from Canada in late November. Susie was our tour guide and Mr. Lee was our driver. I booked the trip in advance on TripAdvisor (which is affiliated with Viator) and was sent the confirmation info in a variety of formats 24 hours beforehand.

PROS
- Navigating Beijing is difficult, even if you know a little mandarin. It was nice to have a friendly, English speaking tour guide and a driver for the entire day and leave the navigating to them. You could also ask additional questions about the tour, where to go in Beijing and learn some basic mandarin (Chinese) words as well.
- I booked the tour about a week in advance and was sent all of the pickup details needed in various formats (TripAdvisor link to all details, WeChat, Hotel message, iMessage if you have an iPhone) so you don't have to have your cell service turned on.
- Groups are no more than 6 people which is nice to be able to really get to talk with fellow tourists and have flexibility along the way as your tour.
- No surprise stops to jade factories, markets, or reflexology places that big bus group tours have. We stopped at a few souvenir spots that were on site that you might've done when on your own anyway, and there was no pressure to buy.
- No waiting in lines. We literally just walked through security bypassing lots of people at Tiananmen Square and Forbidden City. That alone is worth the tour.
- Pickup and drop off from your hotel.
- Drop off at The Great Wall-Mutianyu just a few steps from where you take the cable car or lift up (I recommend the lift up and toboggan down. So fun!). No waiting for a shuttle to the entrance like many other tours do or you would have to if you were on your own.
- Lunch included. Susie selected several items for us to try even taking into consideration any preferences or allergies.
- Good pace for the tour. Not too rushed and not too much information. Learn what it takes to become a hero :-)
- Susie and the driver were flexible enough to let us depart at the other couple's hotel since it was close to where we wanted to explore next.
- Susie was gracious enough to take several photos of us throughout the day at great scenic spots.

CONS
- For those who care even a little about photography, you arrive at The Great Wall right at noon which is the worst time for taking photos. We were blessed with a pretty clear day with lots of sun which was nice but challenging. If I had to do it over again, I would've chosen a tour that arrived at the Great Wall early or late in the day. If you have a DSLR, consider bringing a filter to help with midday sun.
-If mobility is an issue, this tour would be difficult because there is a lot of walking and The Great Wall has a lot of uneven paths/stairs. I think that's disclosed in the tour description.
-Tiananmen Square may not be open to tourists on the day of your tour. I'm not sure how far in advance you could find that out. We were fortunate that it was on the day of our tour (a Sunday).

Knowing what I do now, I probably wouldn't have booked this tour for our trip to Beijing. It wasn't a bad tour by any means, but there are a few things to consider:

1. The Temple of Heaven and Summer Palace are more like parks than historical sites. You don't really need a tour to visit and enjoy them, and unfortunately I felt the schedule of our tour left us wanting more time at the Summer Palace, which is a huge lake area that you could spend a full afternoon at. We only had about an hour.

2. We also could have spent more time at the Forbidden City. While we saw a good bit, it felt rushed, and we didn't get much time on our own (though we did get some here and there). We especially would have enjoyed more time to explore the garden.

3. Included in the tour are a stop at a Chinese Medicine Factory and a Pearl Shop. These are purely tourist traps trying to hard sell you on things and were completely unnecessary, but I could see some people enjoying them. The only bad experience was having to spend 45 minutes at the Pearl Shop. Even though no one in our tour group was interested in buying anything, we couldn't leave early.

4. It was nice getting picked up and dropped off at our hotel by the bus, but with the Beijing traffic, we spent over 2 hours on the return trip getting back, as we were the last ones to get dropped off. It would have been more efficient to just take the subway system (which is excellent).

Overall the tour guide was knowledgeable and friendly. The lunch was excellent, and we did get to see a lot. That being said, if we did it all over again, I would just get a longer tour for the Forbidden City and venture out on our own to the Summer Palace and Temple of Heaven.

Dear fhornplayer, We are glad to know that you're satisfied with our guide service and the lunch included in the itinerary, meanwhile we feel sorry to learn that your trip was not met to your expectations. We mainly offer Mini Group Tours with max 6 people as well as private tours, and meanwhile we’re the operator of some coach tours. Most of our customers would choose Mini Group Tours or private tours, especially Mini Group Tours with amazing value. The coach tour you did with cheaper price normally has more than 10 people in the group. As an explanation for part of your experience, coach group tours usually go to areas that are more commercialized. It was intended for those who have limited budget. We sincerely thank you for your detailed feedback from which we realize that customers choosing this product may not be able to have a good experience. Thanks agian for your feedback which will help us improve in the future. We do hope you can experience our mini group tours or private tours the next time you come to China!
