We had a great time in Beijing. I was a bit worried knowing that the tomb sweeping festival would be a busy time in Beijing and then travelling with three small kids. But Andy was a great guide and helped us such a great deal. We have seen and enjoyed all the highlights in only a short time. My kids want to go back as they loved it so much!

My husband and I have just came back from the Gate1 tour and we are extremely happy! In a short time Gate1 gives you an in-depth sample of the vast and complex country. We've got to enjoy Tiananmen Square, Forbidden City and many other fascinating places in Beijing. Shanghai has impressed us with its history as well as the ultra-modern architecture! The food was delicious, hotels of high-standard. And the guides: Gate1 has the best guides (it was our 4th trip, so we know :)! Grace in Beijing and Tom in Shanghai: competent, courteous, knowledgeable and nice. They go out of their way to accommodate all guests! We are looking forward to our next trip with Gate1 AND to going back to China for longer!

Returning to the UK from Sydney we took advantage of China's 72 hr no visa requirement to plan a 2.5 day stay. From first contacting Joy by email everything was perfect. She recommended the attractions to visit and offered alternatives and stayed in touch as the visit date got nearer. Our tour guide was Lucy and she met us at the airport at 7am with our driver. (Tip...dont drive yourself in Beijing unless you plan to have a very short life!) Lucy's knowledge is astonishing and she gave us a great insight into, not only historical China, but also modern life. Her description of the intrigue and backstabbing during various dynasties was more entertaining than 'House of Cards'. We visited the Great Wall arriving early when there was no-one else there and it was magical. Next was the Birdsnest stadium and the Summer Palace.Next morning it was Tianamen Square, the Forbidden City with an acrobatic show in the evening. We also ate in excellent local restaurants, visited a Hutong area and called in at a supermarket to see the local produce. Each evening we were dropped at our hotel and on the last morning we were taken to the airport. It was a perfect visit with Joy's perfect organisation and Lucy our superb guide. It would have been impossible to get so much out of such a short time otherwise...well done.

En route from Australia to Europe we had a full day layover in Beijng. We chose to work with Joy as she already had so many excellent reviews. She did not disappoint! Joy is truly a pleasure to work with. It was important to us to have flexibility traveling with two young children. Joy made it so easy, she had many suggestions and was open to playing it by ear. Everything from start to finish was taken care of and well organized. We were picked up and dropped off at the airport which made it very convenient. We ended up going to Mutianyu Great Wall and the Forbidden City - both were incredible experiences! We also loved our guide, Becky. She was sweet and kind to our children, very knowledgeable and told us fascinating things about Chinese history. She also was extremely helpful in bargaining with the locals for some purchases. The trip was extremely affordable and a wonderful experience for us! Joy and Becky helped make it truly memorable. If we have the opportunity to travel through Beijing again in the future we will definitely be contacting Joy! Thank you so so much!

I had originally planned on taking 1 day tour on my layover, but ended up asked Joy for a second tour on my layover for the way back because it was such a great experience. My first tour I went to the Forbidden City while I had a 8 hour layover. I was picked up at the airport with a sign and was driven to the Forbidden City where my tour guide Andy met me. He had great knowledge of the history and was friendly. On my 2nd layover tour my boyfriend and I went to The Great Wall. Linda picked us up at the airport with a sign. Linda was very friendly and helpful, she was extremely accomadating if we wanted to stop and get food, and she even helped us shop and haggle for some warm clothes because it was so freezing. She took us along The Great Wall giving us lots of history and sharing a lot of Chinese culture. Joy who booked everything for us responded to every request within hours, and arranged everything perfectly. It was an amazing way to spend our layover time!
