Not sure if they mix these up, National Stadium is not the same as Olympic Park, very hard to find either but the birds nest is different from the stadium.

My brother and I have a tradition of visiting stadiums when we travel. Beijing National Stadium was in our list and it did not disappointed! Even though it was really cold we had time to take several photos and play around with our cameras settings in order to get the best photo results at night without a flash. The results were spectacular. Go at night, the stadium lights are incredible! Check out my photo!

This is the indoor arena located in the Olympic Green. It is nicknamed the Fan due to its design resembling a traditional Chinese folding fan. At the 2008 Olympics, it hosted the Artistic Gymnastics, Trampoline and Handball events. This is part of the landmark structures in the area.

We lived for 11 years in this area, only 10 minutes walk from our home, we have seen the construction from the very beginning and enjoyed many games during the Olympics of 2008.
Go here, it is a great impression!

Saw the athletics championships here. What a place and what an experience. I don't just mean the clean and nice smelling toilets. It's a great place to watch an event. Watch the ticket touts. They tried to sell us fakes. Take a phot of an original ticket and compare it to those they try to sell you. Look at the colours and layout etc.

I would class this as a "Beijing For Free" landmark because I wouldn't bother paying to go inside. It is the exterior of this stadium that is amazing - a real marvel of engineering and design. Just take the subway to the Olympic Sports Centre and walk around the outside.

Just took the subway line 8 and stopped at the Olympic Sports Center. The Bird's Nest is just a part of the Olympic Park but is the most obvious reason why people go there - see the Bird's Nest. The place is soooooooooooo huge!!! Lots of walking and a good way to exercise. If you want to go inside and look at the stadium you have to pay for a ticket. I did not go inside because there is no event. I am still amazed with the beauty of the Bird's Nest. I was also able to walk around and saw "The Cube" or the Aquatic Center.
All in all, it was awesome!!!

We reach there around 9.00 pm. We took MRT station and exit Olympic Sport Center station. The light show for the stadium and cube were amazing.

Having only seen it on television, this was on our bucket list to do along with "The Cube". The National Stadium was home to the 2008 Beijing Olympics and retains all its glory & splendor. The stadium is lit up in the evenings and it's a fantastic photo opportunity. Lots of open spaces for kids to run around and at least when we visited, the place was less crowded. There were options of seeing the place from inside, but we chose not to - esp since our little one was having more fun outside, running around. One does not have to have an agenda visiting places - sometimes you just gotta be there & soak it all in.
Getting to the Olympic centre again is easy, thanks to the fantastic subway system that Beijing has. Get off at Olympic Green & you'll practically land next to the stadium. Because they are relatively newer stations, you will find a lot more kid friendly services, like escalators, elevators (handy when kids are in a pram). This is something which is not available in the older sections of the subway system - have built a lot of muscle in the last couple of days carrying the pram around (sometimes with the baby in it).
In terms of food, there is a mall close by that offers a variety of cuisines, There is also a kids play area for the older kids (4-8 years old) to keep them further entertained. The mall also has a super market & Watsons should you want to pick up some basic medicines, etc. All in, great experience - but don't look to spend more than half a day for it - with dinner included, we spent about 4 hours.

We were able to see this building during our group tour of Olympic Park. It is officially called National Indoor Stadium and nick-named "The Fan". It is across from the Bird's Nest and beside the Water Cube in the park. It is a large building, but not as uniquely shaped as two of the other buildings in the park. It was interesting to see where the indoor games from the Beijing Olympics were played, but I would not have gone to see this building had it not been so close to the other two. The hidden architecture of this building is interesting as it was built to be a green building and puts out as much as 100 kilowatts of electricity daily from photo-voltaic generators built under the roof and curtains of the building.
