We were a little nervous about taking our 3 kids (age 12, 10 and 5) on an overnight camping trip on the wall, however we could not have been better looked after. All the camping stuff and food we needed was provided. All we had to carry was our own clothes. We were collected from our hotel and delivered to the beginning of the trail where we enjoyed a delicious lunch in a farmhouse. The kids bounded up the trail to the wall and loved striking camp. We were able to go at our own pace and even the 5 year old managed the whole trek (we provided the sweets!). The scrambling up an unrestored section of the wall was a unique experience. The thunderstorm we watched was a bonus! Who else gets to roast marshmallows on a camp fire in a turret on the Great Wall of China? The equipment provided (gloves were well used- they even provided some little ones for the 5 year old!) was great and in good condition. The food was tasty (who doesn't like marshmallows and sausages for breakfast?). We walked back to the farmhouse for another delicious lunch before being driven back to Beijing.

The information provided in the run up to the camp was excellent. Wong Bin and Geoff were brilliant and considerate guides. Would definitely do this trip again. Would recommend it to anyone looking to see a different part of The Wall. We saw 2 other small groups but not for long from when we left the farm to when we returned. A highlight of our trip to Beijing.

Thank you for camping with us and sharing your story! I am sure very much fun was had as our guides couldn't stop talking about your lovely kids after the trip. We all saw the cute pictures and everyone else wished we had been there with you all. It is our pleasure to bring unique experience to our guests who travel a long way to see the unrestored Great Wall.

Amazing! My wife and I took our two children (age 9 & 7) on this adventure and it was simply incredible. Wang Bin and Yao were extremely friendly, knowledgeable and attentive to our needs throughout every part of our trip; from the airport pickup, to lunch at a farm house, the hike and camping - they were fantastic. The gear provided was in great condition and Wang Bin brought up ample food/drinks so that Yao could make a wonderful meal with wine. Waking up in the morning to the sun rising over the Great Wall of China is something my family and I will never forget! This was our favorite thing we have ever done in China! The lovely couple were great with our kids too! If you are wanting to see the Great Wall, then you must try them out!

There are tonnes of Great Wall tours on offer and we'd trawled through a bunch of them before stumbling across Great Wall Sensation.

Our Great Wall tour was out of this world - everything was well planned without feeling overly structured, we were free to gambol over the crumbling bits of wall to our heart's content, and best of all we had the whole place virtually to ourselves!

Camping beside an old guard tower beside the Wall, making s'mores with a glass of Great Wall wine in hand will definitely remain a highlight of my time in China! Wake up early to catch the sunrise over the Wall - you won't regret it.

Thanks Yao and her team for their quick responses and for showing us the hidden gems of the Jiankou Great Wall.

Having been to the other parts of the great wall, I can say this is by (very) far the most peaceful part. It's peaceful, clean and you can actually appreciate being in nature and on the Wall, without having to constantly worry about being elbowed/pushed by the passing (coming and going) crowd.

Having the guides also passed a lot of security, as this is a more remote area of the wall. It was well planned and to be quite honest, a bit of a relief to be able to get away from all the crowded places, and actually appreciate the beauty of the wall. They were also very nice, constantly helping take photos, preparing the food and providing little surprises along the way. Little things that make a difference.

A different (and more positive in my opinion) Great Wall experience. Definitely recommend, both for the place and for the guides who ran the trip.

Using the word 'great' would be an understatement. This two day trip was amazing!! The guides Yao and Wang Bin were very down to earth and friendly. They treated us to some excellent Chinese food throughout the entire trip and were very helpful every step of the way. They helped us set up camp at a quiet location right next to the wall which included a campfire and dinner. Over the afternoon and the next day we trekked along the wall seeing a plethora of stunning views and ancient ruins. At most we saw 6 people along the way so it was a very intimate experience. Our last stop before heading back down the mountain was the Sky Stairs (as seen in the photos). It was optional to climb but we highly recommend that you tackle it as you are rewarded with expansive views and a great sense of achievement. Once we returned to the farmhouse (which we also visited before we ascended) we were greeted with another banquet of traditional Beijing cuisine and provided with a hotel or airport drop off. We would both highly recommend this tour to anyone who is visiting Beijing and wants an experience that feels more genuine than the main tourist spots of the wall.

Awesome from start to finish. The tour guides (Yoa, Wang Bin & Michelle) were professional, patient and extremely knowledgeable. They organized the entire trip from hotel pick up to drop off. Many thanks for a fantastic life experience. Highly recommended tour.

Our tour was beyond imagination. Before traveling we did a round of research online and found GWS quite reputable. So we emailed them and followed the steps to book with them. Their price wasn't the lowest we found on TA, but after the trip we know it was well worth it. The guides were honest, pleasant, professional and caring. There were times when we were really exhausted, but we knew for sure that we were in good hands! You don't need to be very fit, actually it's up to you how far you want to go.

Just returned to the UK from a Trans-siberian railway trip that ended in Beijing, during which we conquered the Great Wall with Great Wall Sensation (GWS).
Due to bad weather we were unable to fulfil our camping trip however, GWS were very accommodating and managed to provide us with a day tour of the wall before we left Beijing.
The day trip included a new route so we could to see sections of the wall that other people or groups hadn't. At times it felt like we were lost (this was a new route) but we were never worried and were in safe hands all the time! We only saw a about 2 of other tourists during our 5hr trek!! After being in Beijing for several days it was a great respite!
The route took in the sites of The Eagle Flies Facing Upwards, Sky Stairs and from a distance the Beijing Knot.
Before we set out on a journey we had a wonderful meal at a local village hostel/hotel - probably one of the best traditional meals we had during our stay in China. There was more than enough food to eat!
Our hosts picked us up at our hotel and dropped us back at the end of the day. There were no hidden charges like having to pay for the toll roads etc. I'd like to thank Yao and Wang Bin (guides) for an amazing experience and for being extremely friendly and welcoming hosts ...this trip was highlight of our time in China!
Oh top tip - if you're travelling in the humidity of the summer, take a small towel (for the sweat), change of clothes for the return trip to Beijing, plenty of water, mosquito repellent and some sturdy shoes or trainers!

Me and my frend were the first Dutch guests going on tour with GWS and we really liked it. After picking us up at the hostel they brought us to a farmhouse where we had an absolutely great lunch. In about 45 minutes we walked from there to the wall. Yao and Wang Bin(our guides) set up our tents while we could enjoy the first views. Leaving all our stuff at the campsite we walked(or should I say climbed) lightly, with only some water, for severa; hours, the wall. We found it amazing. Sometimes needing both hands(they provide gloves) and feet we found it really spectacular. It's up to you how far you will go. And most of all, it was really quiet. We saw 6 people that day on the wall. Sitting at the campfire, drinking wine, roasting marshmellows, we had a very good time. As for me smoking a cigaret in the dark on top of the wall was a great experience. Of course I took back my smoked one, but unfortenately not all people take their trash with them. That's the only negative thing that even in this nice, old, quiet part of the wall, you see garbage. Our guides try their best to collect the rubbish along the trail and bring it down, but it's still too much. But I appreciate the effort they make in doing so. After coming down the nice lady of the farmhouse prepared us an even better lunch than the day before. Need I say more. It was a true highlight of our vacation and we can surely recommend this great trip. Thanks Great Wall Sensation.
