Tried 3 others companies - shut down. Mary's company was recommended. Bike is a great way to see Hutong area and cover more ground than walking. Price 380 RMB each seems to hold even for small groups, and start time can be arranged for your convenience. Bike brings you closer to people. You use the standard QR code rental bikes, which are small (make sure you can raise the seat before finalizing). You ride slowly like the locals. Route is well chosen for lake views, parks full of people, Drum & Bell Tower. Climb up the Drum Tower for good view. These are real, full neighborhoods. Development has been restricted in this area (can see rectangle of green trees and low buildings from Bell Tower). Mary gave one bottle of water each. Needed more -- can bring yourself in your backpack or stop and buy at many stores. No helmets are available -- pace is slow and you walk across big intersections. Our group of 4 was really pleased with this tour. Fresh views, exercise, fun, lots of new things, not crowded.

We went on a tour with our hotel and it was nothing speical, we had to wait ages for the rickshaw then had a super quick cycle to a restaurant for lunch, food was terrible our worst yet. We had a quick walk around then went back to the hotel, pretty average.

There are tons of ways to zip around Beijing, but few are better than from the top of a bicycle seat. It certainly helps that the vast majority of the city is flat as a pancake; the only worry you really face on a bike are cars… and their fumes.

We were lucky to be with a very good friend who lives in Beijing. So we rented 3 bikes and got into the narrow streets for 3 hours. It's amazing to stop, look at the small houses, the shops, the real life so crowded, so different. We went around the 2 small lakes, we stopped to by some small breads we loved, we enjoyed the tour and I would say that it deserves an entire day to have the time to see the details. Don't miss the bell and the drum towers.

The best part was a calligrapher's house and studio where his extended family lives for years. He had a comfortable home, modern kitchen, studio. We bought a piece of his art. The tour however was too long and too much detail to be interesting for half a day,
