One of the best places to see the Wall

It's wild and beautiful, much less crowded than Badaling and you leave the site via a bob-sled track. What's not to love?

Our third time here in the past 3 years, but the first since they added the services at the entrance. There is now a Lakers, subway and Burger King as food options rather than the fish ball soup stand (could be a good or bad thing depending on how you look at it). Only other change is that now there... More

The Great Wall in China is a must do activity. Mutianyu just makes it better. This part of the Wall is not as crowded as the others you can take some great pictures and enjoy the walk. It took us about 90min to get there by bus. I recommend not to take a tour the wall, i'ts cheaper and much... More

I think that if you are used to mainland Chinese tourism in mainland China, you will probably appreciate more of the natural beauty of Mutianyu and be more able to look beyond things like parents allowing their kids to defecate in plastic bags on the wall itself. The facilities there were surprisingly clean, of course there were the obligatory fast... More

We live in Beijng and can easily say that This spot is much better than going to Badaling, which is where most tours from Beijing go, making it very busy. Mutianyu is a bit farther but well worth the extra 20-30 minutes. It has a long section of restored wall to walk, and more towers than most sections on the... More

This section of the wall is in very good condition for the most part. Make sure to wear appropriate clothes and shoes for the hike on the wall. I also recommend taking the cable car as there is plenty of hiking to be had on the wall. Beautiful scenery around but after seeing other city walls it's not quite as... More

We were on the Wall in thr fall and we actually had a smog free day. Simply magnificent. A mid week visit will give you the Wall almost all to yourself.

This area of the Great Wall was not very crowded on the day we were there. We took the ski lift to the top of the wall. The views are amazing. The walk on the wall is uneven so watch your step. The toboggan ride down is so much fun. You sit on a metal seat, the attendant shows you... More

Mutianyu (about 70km from central Beijing) appears to be the second most popular Great Wall destination after Badaling but is less crowded though well provided (if that's what you want) with tourist souvenirs and food at the village from which the bus takes you to the funicular or chair lift. There are 2 main routes - the easier route via... More

We actually did this trip when we went to Bejing a few years ago, (2012) but you are not given the option of "years" on Trip Advisor. We were there in the month of November over the American Thanksgiving holiday, visiting our daughter who was studying abroad. The temperatures were mild in comparison to our Northeast winter, fluctuating between 45-60... More
