This is a definite 'must see'. This area gives a good idea of what the wall might have looked like many years agao. Amazing site to visit. it is supposedly one of the quieter sdections of the wall, though we certainly didn't lack for company up there, though there was enough room to see what you wanted.

We toured with China Highlights' guide Susie. She rode up on the chairlift and gave us a in-depth history of the wall. She walked with us for a bit along the wall and took pictures of us together. Then Susie allowed us an hour and a half to walk along the wall before meeting us back at the sled for... More

Try to make it to the old (non-restored part) of the wall, it's worth all the steps! This is a hike if you want to get the most out of it, definitely dress appropriately.

*Tips and Suggestions Summarized at Bottom* As others have said, the Great Wall of China is just as magical as you may be imagining. However, if you choose the wrong section of the wall, the wrong time, or wrong way to visit it can be a lot less enjoyable. I'll give some tips below from my visit that may help... More

The Mutianyu section of the Great Wall is the easiest section to navigate since it is accessible by a cable car and has shallower inclines. Views from the Watchtowers show the vastness of this Wall that runs for several thousand miles. Its amazing to walk along the Wall knowing that it was built sometime between 1368 and 1644 by thousands... More

Visited The Great Wall at Mutianyu through Catherine Lu Tours. Our private driver dropped us off (along with our tour guide) at the base of Great Wall. Bought tickets for the gondola ride to Tower 14 which is most popular (not ski lift to Tower 6) and toboggan ride. Walked up long hill (20 minutes) (take your time-no rush) to... More

We managed to get there on our own. It was less expensive than the tours that we got offered and quite easy + we could stay as long as we wanted on the wall. We left from Dongzhimen (bus transport hub), we took bus 916快 to Huáiróu (the Chinese character means fast). We paid 11y per person and it took... More

There were four of us. We hired a private car through the hotel to drive us there and back. Though the fare was much higher than hailing a taxis on the road, we felt that it was safer and there was less risk of dispute over the fare and being hijacked to forced shopping. Our driver was polite and professional... More
