I would say that Hou Hai is exceptionally popular with both local and foreign tourists visiting Beijing and is also often visited by the expatriate community. The younger generation seem to like going there to shop and eat. It gets a little crowded, especially on the weekend, so if you can make a trip on a weekday, it will be... More

I started each of my days with a walk around the lakes. Easy to join Taichi groups, The air is always better than the surrounding city and it represents a good break from the crowds. Lots of people but not overcrowded. There are small bars with music every night. The bars are designed towards the foreign visitors.

It's actually a route you can walk along-from Lotus Market, and alongside the lake getting to a famous small bridge, a historic spot (many people talking photos there.) and then eventually YanDaiXieJie (Street), You can experience different sorts of scenes and many food stands, restaurants, bars, shops adding the flavor of this relaxing walk. You may also rent a boat... More

Our Taxi driver dropped us at the low key end and we found it a bit boring making the long walk along it. When you get to the action area!! What a surprise!! Just a local beer drinking area with a couple of "girly bars with pole dancing" not a great sight. Leave it

An amazing place to spent a night. The lake is surrounded with pubs and restaurants. One can have a beautiful view with beer, sheesha and some jazz music.

Loved the lakes and views, be careful of overpriced foods at some of the balcony restaurants, prices are concealed. Paid $50US for small plates of food, prices were hidden.

If you want to enjoy traditional Chinese architectures and alleys while having some drinks, this is the best place to go. But in the recent years, unscrupulous merchant raised the prices to 40-60 RMB a beer while it worth just 5-10, and conspicuous consumption and swindles happen everywhere here. If you do not know the normal prices in Beijing, go... More

It caters to the tastebud of western tourists. It has nice view of the lake, good cafes and pubs. It can be touristy, but still a nice place to hang around for an afternoon or go for a stroll in the evening and grab some drinks.

Me and my boyfriend were advised to go to the lake by someone he works with in Changshu, so our first night in Beijing we got a taxi to the lake to see what it was all about. There were bright lights, live bands, pole dancers, street vendors, salsa dancers.. you name it, it was happening. Such a vibrant and... More

If you're staying nearby as we were then this is a lovely place to walk around. Throughout the day its much quieter with many tourists milling around. At night though bar street which is right next to one of the lakes gets very loud and very busy with touts pestering you to have a drink in their bars. If you... More
