Myself and my brother booked a 1 day visit to the Jinshanling Great Wall. The booking process was very straight forward. Ricky replied very quickly to all emails. We also booked a driver for the Aviation museum on a different day so we were sending a lot of questions but all were answered clearly and promptly. Our guide David and drive Mr Xie were both excellent from start to finish. We had picked that section of the wall as its consider the best for photographers and it didn't disappoint. I had been to another section of the wall years ago and thought we would mange this section fine but its a stepper climb and this was the low season so no cable car etc was running. The original starting point proved a little too tough for us but thankfully David was on the ball and we went to a different entrance that while still a challenge was more doable for our level. The views on this section of the wall are stunning and we had a time to take a lot of pictures but David also made sure we made all the sections we wanted without rushing us. Special thanks to both David and Mr Xie for helping a stranded tourist who had been scammed by a local taxi driver.

I booked a private tour starting from the Jiankou section of the Wall, for a 12km hike toward the renewed section.
It was an amazing experience and my knowledgeable English-Speaker guide, Oliver, taught me about the history of the Wall and answered all my questions.

The hike is amazing, with breathtaking sceneries. There were almost no tourists in Jiankou (and definitely no foreigners). There were many more tourists at the renewed section.
I recommend if you have good legs and you enjoy Nature!

Our hiking tour to Jinshanling Great Wall as one of the highlights of our time in Beijing. The experience was smooth from start to finish - from communicating with Rick over WeChat and email, to being dropped off at our hotel after an amazing day, the communication was seamless and organisation perfect.

What made our experience so wonderful, however, was our wonderful guide, David. David was incredibly friendly, knowledgeable and attentive, and helped us take so many photos! He is such an enthusiastic and passionate guide, and was clearly committed to making sure we enjoyed our experience to the full. We were so lucky to experience a snowy (and empty!) Great Wall with him.

I will be recommending Wild Great Wall to all my friends and family visiting China.

Our family was delighted with our amazing guide Oliver and Driver Mr Wu. The tour offers unique experiences to untouched and the original part of Great Wall. The breath-taking scenery with a challenging hike and delicious lunch were perfect.

Oliver was supportive and friendly that had supported us during the hike. I highly recommend this tour and looking forward for further opportunity to explore different part of China with Wild Great Wall.

We had a 1 day tour at Jinshanling Great Wall with our guide David.
The organization was perfect (hotel pick up, drive to the Great Wall area, lunch, drop off at the hotel).
Our guide was knowledgeable, very friendly and adapted well to our envies.
This section of the Great Wall was not busy at all, and absolutely wonderful, with a stunning view. The guide knew where to have the best spots and an incredible experience!

I apologize for the length of this review, but if you're considering this company, it is something you need to read. Don't believe everything you read on here about this company. I am resubmitting my review because Ricky had my previous one removed based on a technicality (My original title was "The wall was great... This company, not so much.", so he claimed it was based on two separate attractions, and not just his company). So, who knows how many other reviews he's had removed. Not only that, but after reading my first review (which is, for the most part, the same as below), he contacted me and argued with me over email for nearly three hours. So, if you give him a bad review, prepare to be hassled about it. That's fine though... His removing of my review allowed me to update it with more info regarding how he runs his business, and to fix my mistake of originally giving him 3 stars. Obviously, my experience with this company has lessened significantly since I first submitted it...lol.

We had an eight hour layover in Beijing, so I booked a Mutianyu tour with Ricky. He was very helpful with information throughout the booking process. However, is he helpful and informative during the tours? Couldn't tell ya'.... I've never met the dude. We realized this was going to be interesting when, instead of being met at the airport by Ricky, we were greeting by a guy holding a sign with my name of it, but the sign was from a different tour company. It had at first appeared that Ricky had passed us off to a different company (even though I had made my booking nearly four months ago), and to a tour guide that barely spoke a word of English except "up wall" and "down wall". So, after reading all of the reviews on here about how informative and knowledgeable the guides were during their tour, this was obviously not the case for us. Ricky later said he DOES work for him... So why he was holding a sign from a different company, I have no clue. He never gave me an answer to that question.

After speaking to Ricky on the phone, I was then told that an English speaking tour guide would have cost extra. What? Did he charge all these other reviewers extra? I seriously doubt it, as it seems to be luck of the draw. He mentioned that, in our previous emails, it does mention that "free cell phone rental service upon your arrival (for local call in case you need to contact us for guiding, translation, etc)", which it did. However, I figured this meant in case I need translation help with locals on the wall or something... Certainly not for simple communication with my own tour guide! I later found out, upon arriving back in the US, that Ricky did send me an email, late the night before our 6:30am tour, which DID mention that our driver speaks very little English. But, this was not until we were already on our way to the airport to leave for PEK, and wouldn't be able to check email again. Convenient time for him to first mention this, don't you think?

UPDATE: During the process of Ricky arguing with me about my original review, he changed his story several times regarding what service I had requested and purchased. First, he stated that I had purchased a "taxi service", not a "tour"... Even though the name of his company is "Wild Great Wall Adventure TOURS", not "Wild Great Wall Adventure Taxi Service". Once I pointed out to him the subject line in every single one of our emails was "Layover TOUR to Great Wall", he then changed his story and claimed that I DID buy a tour, but not a GUIDED tour. At no point in our conversation before the tour, nor anywhere on his website, is a distinction made between the two different services and different associated costs (as I don't believe they actually exist). Oh, and if you read the review below mine, Ricky clearly influenced and requested some of the specific info to be on that review, considering it was posted just a couple days after my original one...lol.

To the driver's credit, he was great, and I place zero of the blame on him whatsoever. He was very friendly, accompanied us up to the wall, and did what he could to assist us. My wife is an amputee (below the knee), and he was extremely patient with us during our long and slow paced walk up to and back down from the cable car terminal. Once we got to the actual wall, he stayed with my wife while I ran around for about 45 minutes to a few other towers to snap off some quick some pictures. However, we had many questions during our "tour" about the Wall, things we saw during the drive, and the Chinese culture in general, that we will now never have answers to due to the language barrier.

So, if you're planning a layover tour here in Beijing, and want a tour guide that speaks your own language, I would strongly suggest either clarifying this fact well in advance and getting it in writing, or going with a different company all together to be on the safe side.

We traveled in April and were very disappointed that there was not an English driver. Read the 2 other 1 star reviews for more details; we experienced the same thing. Our driver was very nice but the only English he knew was "wall", and "hotel". We had to ask another driver that actually knew English where to go to the bathroom. We did not know that the wall closed only 1 hour after we got there. We had no way to get in touch with our driver and we thought he left us with our luggage for about 10 minutes because he was not where he was when he dropped us off. We even had a China mobile phone number and Ricky never called to offer to talk to us. He also never followed up until today to wish us a holiday message? 8 months? And he tried to argue that the fee for an English driver was twice as much? Well if it was, we would not have hired you??? He even admitted that he made that clear since May, a month AFTER ours and then used a review from 4 days ago as an example that it was not an English speaking driver??? He sent 4 emails saying that he hoped that I understood??? Find a other service, this is not as advertised!

My experience - I had read the reviews and was confident in booking with this company. But my driver didn't show up at Beijing Airport, even though I had been sent several detailed and well-written emails confirming my personal tour. I waited for over an hour, in an unfamiliar area, with no answer to my telephone calls. Finally I made via phone and was told that someone must have forgot about my booking. This was extremely disappointing, as I lost my one and only chance of seeing the Great Wall. Instead I was constantly harrased at the airport and had to find a taxi. A very distressing experience, especially for a first-time solo visitor with limited Mandarin language skills. If the company had at least called me beforehand, I could have made alternate arrangements and avoided a terrible situation.
