Worth visiting Chinese Private Museum
Jan 2018 • Solo
this is the private antique collection museum of Master Ma Wei-du.

Master Ma reputation is quite well known and was accepted for chinese antique collection expertised within China and aboard, he has the excellent chinese historical knowledge background.

there are several TV programe show that he has conducted and shared his valuable knowledge to the audience.

this private museum has located quite far away from Beijing downtown, and quite far from the current Beijing MRT transporation network coverage. however, in this case the bus no 418 or 668 can take you to the nearest bus stop of this museum easily.

according to this is a private museum, hence the entrance fee is required.

it totally can't compare with the other free admission (by government subsidized museum).

after the completion visiting, you can realize by your own this place is the completely well organized and high professional management.

in additional, there has the valuable collection of book that has written by Master Ma from his accumulative experienced and has available in the souvenir shop.

Nice private museum

Guanfu classical Art Museum is one of the best private museum in China. The collection of artifacts particularly the wooden furniture/windows and porcelain displays in the Ming and Ching Dynasty is really wonderful. However, visitors can only take photos from i-phones and cameras are not allowed inside the museum. Despite of this restriction, the museum is not so crowded with others and so you can admire the displays quietly at your own pace. Highly recommended.

I wrote a review yesterday but couldn't post pics. So this is now just for that. This museum is a real gem and gives you a fantastic impression of the interiors of wealthy homes in the 17th-19th centuries.

One Man's Passion
Jul 2015 • Family
This is a private museum built by one man. Mr. Ma is the preeminent collector in China and a preeminent collector of Chinese Art (mostly porcelain and furniture) in the world. This collection is a reflection of his effort and passion in the last 40+ years. The artifacts are all well presented and well documented. It's out of the way, but it's worth the effort. It would be excellent if it was not that far and the collection is more comprehensive.

Definitely worthy

A private museum based upon personal collections of Mr Ma Weidu. Very rare, and maybe the best one in this country. Many collections are descibed in his publication. Transportation would be a problem if you are not driving or using a taxi.

One of The Best Private Museum

A great collections of artifacts with some going back over 2,000 years. The ticket price (50¥ for adults and 25¥ for seniors) is well worth the money. We loved the porcelain, furniture, jade and doors-and-windows the most, plus other rare and beautiful artifacts, Located near the airport in the outside of Chaoyang area. A highly recommended visit. It is usually not crowds.

Small but perfect museum of Chinese artifacts
Oct 2013 • Friends
During the October 8 day national holiday most museums in Beijing are packed, so it was a pleasant surprise to find the Guanfu Museum an oasis of calm tranquility. The only problem we had was finding it in the first place, but our driver phoned the museum a few times and they guided us in.

The museum was founded by Mr Ma Weidu in 1996, and is the first private museum in mainland China. It was originally located in central Beijing in Liulichang, but soon outgrew the rooms and moved to a second location. It then moved to the current location to get even more space. It is beautifully laid out, and well curated. The exhibits have explanatory captions in both Chinese and English.
The museum has a fantastic collection of fine porcelain, cloissone, ancient furniture and carved windows and doors. There is also a collection of oil paintings, but I found these less interesting.
At the moment (October 2013) they have a wonderful exhibition entitled 'Patterns on Porcelain' where the items have been grouped together by artistic theme of the decoration eg 'dragons', 'philosophy and religion','Chinese characters', 'landscape', plants, flowers and fruit' etc. and one could see how these themes had run through the various dynasties. Beautiful and informative.
If you have enough time in Beijing it is well worth taking the time and trouble to seek out this little gem of a museum.

If you want to see ancient china in China, this is the place to come. An outstanding collection. Plus other very interesting exhibits of Qing and Ming furniture, doors and windows. Well worth it.
