Yuetan Park, with the Moon Temple, may not be the biggest and grandest park one can visit in Beijing, but for a mere 1 yuan entrance fee, it is certainly worth exploring. There's a lot of real life going on!

I visited in winter so there was very little to see in terms of scenario except bamboo and pine trees. However, there are some nice garden landscaping and architecture and it’s a nice little park in the middle of busy Beijing.

The contrast between the park and the surroundings is striking indeed but this park is not exceptional, notwithstanding a few nice buildings.

A very small gem in a quite crowded area. Nice garden with a few temples inside where you can relax for a while. A surprise you wouldn't expect.

While I would not recommend this park to anyone who is visiting Beijing for the firs time and only has a few days to explore the city, if this is not your first time in Beijing and you have already visited all the usual attractions, this small but charming park is a great refuge from the hectic city. While (as mentioned in previous reviews) the remains of the altar of the moon themselves are in a sorry state (they seem to serve as nothing more than a wall surrounding a huge TV antenna), the park itself is a haven of tranquility. During my visit (April 2014) the place was like a hidden garden, full of flowers in bloom (with a magical scent of blossoms all around), Chinese style pavilions, a pond with goldfish and lots of lush green. The park is meticulously maintained and there were not too many people (all were local - as tourists rarely venture here). Admission in only RMB 1, so it is also cheap. Beats the large parks such as Chaoyang for some R&R. A real hidden gem.

Yuetan was once the altar of the moon. Now it is just a park. The altar and associated buildings are in a very poor state and have been concreted shut. The altar has clearly suffered and is not a priority for restoration. The park itself is very nice and you can see the locals exercising and relaxing.
