Fascinating way to learn about Tao religion and culture
Sep 2015
This simple museum is accessible by subway, and demonstrates interesting facts about Taoism. How their world was divided by various departments, we visited here to see the vast contrasts of Tao culture to others. The entrance fees were very reasonable (less than $2 USD). If you want to go off the beaten path this is a good place to visit, will give you a greater appreciation of Tao Culture.

No english signs, but the pieces are well displayed

It's a 700 meter walk (10min) from exit A of the Dongdaqiao metro station on line 6. The museum is located at the back of Dongyue temple. The museum is small and can be quickly view in less than an hour. It's organized well and with no English signs.

Tao Temple/Museum Worth Visiting in Beijing
Oct 2015 • Couples
This Temple/Museum is a bit unusual. Although fairly easy to reach by public transportation (subway) it seems to be off the beaten track. Very few visitors were there when we visited. It is a very interesting introduction (and more) to Tao religion and culture. A very fascinating series of exhibitions, called departments. Interesting architecture and history.

Intriguing Taoist Temple and Window into Chinese Culture
Feb 2014 • Solo
This temple is a hidden gem in Beijing. You have to work to find it. The location on the Tripadvisor map is a bit misleading as the museum/temple is two blocks east from exit A on your left.

This place is basically a compact tour of Taoism's world divided up by "departments" (including the department of abortion, wrongful death, and demons and monsters). You can pray for children, good fortune and happiness in this temple. You get a good sense of what Taoism is about and see some dilapidating versions of's great Chinese art.

The temple does not have a lot of visitors so you will not feel crowded as some of the more frequently visited sites in Beijing. It only costs 10RMB to get in. You can also get a very interesting tour in Chinese if you pay in extra 30RMB. So, I think it is worth your time to come to this traditional folklore Museum to get a better sense of what Chinese culture is and to find a nice place that most visitors overlook.
