That's a charming area. You can eat there or just simply walk around. I definitely recommend!!! But be careful of your wallet, it's expensive there.

It is a cute street that it has kept it's authentic feel. it it is really close to Houhai lake and Nanluogu Xiang,so I advice you to visit them in one day. there are many shops, some shops were special but most them I can't say so. It' s a good place to walk around tho. 我很喜欢这个地方, 有很多感觉, 不是直直的,而是曲曲折折小胡同, 旁边有很多小商店,有的很有特色,... More

This small street between the Drumtower and the Silber Ingot Bridge or the lakes of Qian Hai & Hou Hai has a lot of small shops, tearooms, bars, and snackbars. It was nice walking through it, but for me it was a little bit too loud with the music. But it’s a nice passage towards the Silber Ingot Bridge and... More

Thank goodness a few of these old areas have been preserved amongst the modernisation of Beijing, even if they are mostly being converted into tourist attractions. The Yandai Xiejie, also known as the Smoke Pipe Hutong, is traversed by a canal which provides a passage for small barges and creates a water town at its core. This was a lovely... More

It was a part of the Hutong Tour that was included in my itinerary. I wished to take more time to look around, but had to rush through with others.

This brilliant old market area was very difficult to find with most web sites being poor about how to find it, and confusing everyone by using the term Hutong to mean market. You get here by taking Subway line 8, stop Shichahai; head north and take the entrance into Yandai Byway. Look for the panel on the right as you... More

I had a wonderful time meandering down this street visiting the shopfronts. Made some good purchases and then continued through the hutongs. We visited a Hutong to see family life but it was very touristy. Take away the furnishings and you could imagine what it was like in years gone past. We finished up taking a rickshaw around the area.

I love the Yandaixiejie, or the Zigzag Alley for Selling Smoking Gadgets. It's not only so close to my favorite Houhai area but also so unique. It's a quarter-mile-long, snake-like alley rather than a straight one like almost all in the rest of the town. Honestly, I don't smoke, but I do like to see the various kinds of smoking... More
